It almost hurts just to look at that ultra-feminine logo. This is going to be the calling card of the company that brought us such testosterone drenched games as Contra and Rush 'n Attack?! I can't bring myself to accept that.

I saw that on GameDaily earlier. It reminds me of a pharmaceutical company logo (I work with them all the time). NOT GOOD.

Jesus Christ, how underswhelming that was. Just plain boring.

I've heard comparisons to soy sauce, feminine hygeine products, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show so far. Oddly, nobody seems to think of video games when they see that logo.

I think more of Japanese computer company rather than Japanese videogame company.

I don't think there's anything feminine about it. It's just completely neutral and..... BORING!

So, basically, the boss at the company decided he wanted a new logo, and went with the local Dilbert, who wasted the whole day checking his e-mail before slapping a generic logo together two minutes before the deadline.

Yuck. It's not as bad as Konami's early '80s logo, but the orange and yellow are classic. You don't mess with that. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts they change it back after a while.

And, finally, as for all this talk about Konami's uber-macho games, has anyone noticed the vaguely homosexual Anne Rice look to the Castlevania games since Symphony of the Night? Those character drawings are about as masculine as the Village People.

If you ask me, those drawings are so, hmm sexy? I'm looking for an art book for them now...

Not to sound racist, but it looks so Japanese..

This is sad. Not because the new design is plain and unmemorable, but because Konami's previous logo bore one of the most recognizable insignias of any game publisher. Like the Mercedes symbol in the automotive world, the gold-and-red sign of Konami was familiar to anyone who spent a good measure of time with video games, and I dare say it was as much a part of the company's image as the names of Metal Gear, Contra, Castlevania, and Gradius.

I'm going to miss it. Those two elegant, wavy shapes that cleverly formed a cross have greeted me everywhere from Lifeforce to Suikoden III. And now they're gone.

And who's raggin' on Ayami Kojima's art? It's some of the best in the industry. Achika, I think that Konami gave away miniature art books with preorders for Symphony of the Night, but I'm not sure where you'd find any now.

From Bela Lugosi to Anne Ricey overnight. It wasn't even gradual.

It made me think of a Colgate toothpaste tube. I find it hard to get nostalgic about their logo. I don't remember what it looked like originally anyway, before it's last incarnation.

I've heard stories where Japanese business men commit suicide over business failures. There could be a few more widows in Japan soon.

I don't really have anything to add, but as a long time Konami fan I have to agree with everyone who has posted already. I don't get it.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it actually what's-his-name who did the art for Symphony of the Night? You know, that guy who does lots of work on games and anime and ALWAYS draws characters with that same pale, sickly look no matter what the occasion?

I remember when I first got my SNES, I used to hate how long it took some games to get through the logo screens, copyrights, etc when starting the game. However I used to never get tired of the Giant Konami logo, with the classic "chimes" (i.e Super Castlevania 4) It will be greatly missed.

I'd love to see the man hours and cost that when into this revolutionary new symbol.

Worst. Re-vamp. Ever.

Looks more like a Generic-Brand-Tylenol logo.

Which, with all the headaches it's causing, is pretty appropriate.

The saying "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" seems strikingly appropriate.

I just hafta ask why? The old logo didn't look dated and had a very clean, classic look to it.

Ahh whatever.

I just hafta ask why?

Too many guys in suits + 6 or 7 figure salaries per suit + justification for their existence/pay = crappy new logo. :)

The original logo from the early 80s was so nice... I have lots of MSX games with it.

I am all for modernizing outdated logos (within reason), but a 5 year old who could spell Konami could have come up with that one.

I'm sad that Konami ditched their logo like that. The flag logo is one of my favorite company logos. Can't believe they ditched a classic logo in favor of that ugly as crap one.

is it just me, or are a lot of even non video game companies constantly changing their logos? BK for example! i ejoyed looking at the cool old school BK in the burger, but now its all "futuristic"!

In an effort to mark the company's 30th anniversary on March 19, Konami Corporation announced this morning that it would be changing its classic double-lined logo. Meant to symbolize the expansion of Konami's business field and its scheduled shift towards becoming a holding company, the new logo will take effect on April 1.

I think our Japanese friends are playing a game with us.[/b]

I must say, that while this logo is rather bland the old one wasn';t much more "video game" related... two squiggles... but then, few companys logos match their product...

However for such a well known to company to change there logo... why?
I mean squiggles don't mean much, but after seeing it for so long we know it means konami...

Same as pepsi.. don't think much of a picture that looks like a squished rubber ball, but I know it means Pepsi... why change it?

What I don't understand is that, if Konami revamped their logo for the company's 30th anniversary, then why not do a variation on either the flag logo or on the older logo (the word konami with an upward extra leg on the K). That would've made more sense than the "we are a corporate business" logo, which should be used only for stationary and the like, not for videogame releases.
