Ok, for the four of us who care about Amigas, I need a little help. I just dug out my Amiga 2000 after about four years of its sitting silent. Well, with every disk I put in either 3.5" drive, they crank and squeak and kill the disk. Bad.
So, like, I think I need a new (or two) drive. Anybody here have any spares available for sale or trade for games? Or do you have a source?
I'll have more Amiga questions/conversation when I'm not exhausted from the day. For now, help with drive(s), please!

This is a place out of Germany - I haven't had any problems with them (bought both my C-One and 4 way IDE splitter for my A1200 from them).

replacement drives are always readily avaliable on ebay, and it would be easier and cheaper just to get an external drive

Are there any Cons to going with external?

Amiga drives always seem to crank and squeal.. is the problem that the drive isnt reading disks?
Its quite a common fault, ive had lots of A500's with this fault, you could try cleaning the disk drive head with a q-tip dipped in alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
Often reading errors or not reading at all can be caused by dirty disk drive head.. it can ruin your disks, and also using old media can ruin your disk head..

A cleaning is a good idea, actually.
Upon inserting any disk into either drive, squeals go on for about 20 seconds, then the disk icon pops up and says:
Drive Name:BAD
Where Drive Name is whichever drive the disk is in. Also, if I try to Initialize a disk, it won't due to bad sectors (probably because the drive kills the disk as soon as I insert it).

Keep in mind that if you're booted to Workbench and if you put in a NDOS disk (ie, most games) they're not going to be browsable - you might get NDOS or BAD. External works most of the time provided the game can boot up off of DF1 (unless you have some sort of DF0/DF1 switch). For $15, I'd just grab a new internal one and be done with it.
