Okay, you found an old time machine! But it only has two trips left in it, and you have money to burn on video game related items.
What are your two destinations?
(I have to think about mine, first.) I know Earthbound might be included. I might also go back to when NES was being phased out.

I go back to 1623 and kill Miles Standish!

Why would you want all those ET carts? ET isn't worth jack as it is.
First, I'd go back to when Computer Space, the Pong cab, and the Odyssey were around.
Second, I'd go back to when the NES was plumeting in price, pick up some of that stuff along with some NES rarities. While I was in that time period I'd run around to all the thrift stores and snatch up all the nearly free classics I could find. Think about all that dedicated consoles, INTV, Atari, arcade cabs...so many goodies for next to nuthin'.

I'd go back to 0 ad, Jerusalem, or wherever the hell it was supposed to happen.
As for gaming, I'd be simply going back to 1990 and grabbing a bunch of carts after an event. With the actual money, I'd rent a TON of copies of the panesian games, then take my second trip back to this time.

If I have a time machine and it can only be used for video game purposes, I'm going to 2080. There *has* to be some sweet systems then. Plus, the inevitable Mario Party 53 and The Legend of Zelda: The Quickening.

Those cartridges would be great for homebrew games if that is what the the poster wanted or use them to make tables and other furnriture out of e.t Cartridges. The e.t furniture could be sold on ebay then.

I'd be off on a Neo Geo shopping spree. Specifically the US release of Metal Slug and that day Telegames had a big stack of Euro Kizunas.

I would go back to 97 or 98 when a store had a bundle of games with a sms system with a light gun. It was a huge mistake.
And the 2nd thing to use the time machine thing was to buy sms games at another store that were euo in my hometown in the United States.

I'd simply go back in time and give my younger self some winning lottery numbers so that I could just buy everything ever released, ever.
I might also wreck the timeline by giving the Odyssey 2 designers back in 1978 a Nintendo 64 to reverse-engineer, as well as game designs for Tetris and a host of other hits. Maybe then Magnavox would have obtained the supremecy they deserved. Muhahahah!
If it was a really, really good time machine, I'd travel sideways in time to the paralell universe where Ultima X : Odyssey got released and hang out there for a year or two.

December 2002. I'd mark my box of Saturn and PS1 games + cases as "PLEASE DO NOT THROW ME AWAY".
Either that or early 2001 when I'd go on a Neo Geo shopping spree at a local used game store and then ebay the fuck out of everything when I get back to present time.

I'd go back to the early 90's and buy a ton of Microsoft stock and give myself a few winning big pot lotto numbers. I'd be sure to win the lotto the first weekend I'm there to fund my spending sprees and all, that way I can afford to invest all that money and inform some close people to buy certain games that will become rarities and all.
Oh ya, don't forget to invest into Amazon, Yahoo, Walmart, some oil companies and Apple. :)

i'd just go back in time and enjoy the feeling of being in a packed arcade full of video games etc.
i'd also have a word with all of the managers to throw all the old boardsets / machines my way :)

It's game related in a sense that I could actually afford to buy the rares and later on buy more modern games. Also it'd give the chance to purchase older games that are well out of my price range. In addition I said I'd tell some of my friends what to buy in the comming years.

Who needs lotto tickets/stock when you've got 10 copies of Euro Kizuna and 20 copies of US Metal Slug 8-) Ok, so yeah, but it's the next best thng.
Now depending on whether we can move through space too, there'd be much fun to be had in Nintendo R&D1 one night. Sit down and have a crack on MarioDD on Miyamoto-san's 64DD, have a fiddle with the 'Playstation' and a quick go on the colour VB.
Oh, and whatever game show it was that SNK demo'd the MVS version of Ironclad at would be getting a personal visit. Methinks a good bit of time travel based theivery and messing with the time line is always good fun.

Ok first of all I would go back to 1969 and buy about 6 cars that I know are rare as hell now.(Yenko Camaro, Chevelle and Nova; Plymouth Superbird, Shelby Cobra and a 1969 RSSS Huggar Orange Camaro for my mom).
Gaming related I would go back to 1984 and invest in Nintendo. If not that I would go to November of 2007 and get a copy of Halo 3 to play now.

Forget Miles Standish - I'd go back and assassinate Franklin D. Roosevelt.
But back on topic - if I must spend it on games, I would go back and buy each and every Ultima game in its original incarnation (cloth maps and all). Then I would make sure I get them signed by Garriott himself.
Then I would go back and get Valkyrie Profile.

Not like it was the height of gameplay, or rarity, but I would definitely check out the NES launch, first off.
I was born in 1984, so while I grew up with NES, I was too young to really witness its birth. I got a NES in about 1989, and the NES already seemed like some ancient dynasty at the time (obviously I was young)... The early NES games always seemed legendary compared to the later NES and SNES titles that really colored my childhood, and I'd love to see them when they were new.
So yeah, I have some nostalgia/youth issues with early NES. :) I'd love to see all the pixel-art covers and the ROB set.... get me a full launch line-up and... probably just stay there and start collecting through the next 21 years :) Due to my age, and stupidity of losing track of my early collection, I've been playing "catch up" with all my favorite consoles..... I'm constantly collecting old games, which cuts into my modern game budget, which means I'm going to have to track down more old games in the future :P A viscious cycle.....

I'd go all over the filming of Overdrawn At The Memory Bank. I'm sure that Crow would thank me. ;)
For gaming purposes, I'd go to the major cities during the video game crash, rarity guide in hand. Cha ching.

I'd go to the BBC archives around 1974 and snag all the Doctor Who episodes that were later reported as destroyed. Of course, for all you know, this is actually what happened since so many of them are missing. I could be watching The Daleks' Masterplan right now! ;) OK, OK, kidding. :D
In gaming terms, I'd spend about a week with the team working on the hardware and games for the Odyssey3, preferably with a hidden camera FROM THE FUTURE rolling the whole time, and talk them into forking over some prototypes of all of the above. I'd probably do like Matt Frewer did in that episode of Star Trek - go and tell them that the O3 will become the greatest force ever in the world of gaming, and I just wanted to be there when it all started to witness it for myself. :P Or maybe even better, I'd take the aformentioned hidden camera FROM THE FUTURE and hang around the Sanders & Associates labs in the late 1960s and hang with Baer & co.
If I still had money to spend from my 80s trip to see the birth of the O3, I'd go hit a boatload of arcades and blow it all, one quarter at a time.
Oh, and I'd get Ralph Baer and his buddies to fix my time machine so I could make a third trip, and then go to the BBC archives. ;)

First trip, I'd go back to the Kay Bee in 84/85 and clear out their entire table of 2600, Coleco and Inty games (they were all <$5 anyways). While at the mall I'd check out the arcade. :) Hmmm... second trip, hard to say. Maybe 1988 and stock up on sealed NES/SMS games. But I might also go to ~1997 or so and clear out Toys R Us of their Saturn stock (sealed Panzer Dragoon Saga and Burning Rangers? Oh yeah). I think they even had NES toploaders then, too, I remember them being in stock a long time.

assuming two trips does not mean there and back, there and back
i would go as far as possible into the future and clear out my savings account. then go back to the release of the 2600 and make a living off of buying a selling games from that point on. i dont really have any reason to return to present day.

rofl, to hell with going back.
I'd go like ten years into the future and buy whatever consoles exist THEN, then I'd bring them back and resell them for preposterous amounts of money.
And then I'd take the proceeeds, go back to like 1960, and dump it all in Berkshire Hathaway (200,000% returns throughout it's entire life).

I'd only make one trip, back to 1985.
Experience the best half of the 80's and wait it out until the best console era started - the 1990's.
Mega Drive, SNES, Saturn, PSX, N64 and Dreamcast would be all bought at launch.
I'd also try and grab myself a Neo Geo...somehow.
Once I get close to my death, I would then travel to the year 3000 and hopefully get a cure for old age.
EDIT: Alternatively, I would take back a documented history of Sega and Nintendo and show it to the respective company CEO's.
I suspect my arguments would be:
For Sega: *bludgeon them in the head with a Mega CD and 32X until they came to their senses*
For Nintendo: *point at the N64's cartridge slot and yell: "WRONG CHOICE YOU IDIOTS."*

Who knows. It's going to take some serious luck.
The way I see it shaking down is I'll eventually get to within 25-30 titles of completion and then progress will come to a halt. It'll be tough to stay interested at that point. There are so many tough titles out there that's kind of like asking for a perfect alignment of the stars to actually find one of each. Might have to settle for loose carts or completes at that point.

Well, I'd use my first trip to go back and sleep with Audrey Hepburn during her hey-day. Then, I'd use my second trip to go to circa 1982 and buy as many Entex Adventurevisions as I could fit into my time machine. If I had the oppurtunity to stay, I'd go back to 1980 and ditch the time machine...

Given those limitations, logically, I'd go back to 1982- MID 1982.
However, I'd have to avoid my relatives, since they might be a bit curious as to a certain obvious thing...

I would go back to 1984, join the atari video club, buy all of the club exclusives 1000x each, then mail commavid, and buy every copy of video life, and magicard, somehow get a hold of men-a-vision, buy all the copies of air raid, buy a billion cans of dog food, get all the copies of chase the chuck wagon, buy tons of bomb games, avalon hill games, all of pandas ripoff games, get all boxed river patrol copies, and get every copy of space chase monogrammed with my initials, so when the ship blows up, I'm a legend, and banking on every copy sold....then warp back home, dig up all of this mentioned stuff, and be on the cover of every magazine, as the best atari collector ever...
#2 non video game related, warp to 1952, buy every pack and wax box, and case of 1952 topps baseball card hi numbers available, and enjoy the mantle rookie 2-3 to a box (being a double print) warp back to 2006 get all the cards graded by psa or bvg, and be a millionaire right away...ok so we can all dream, right?

I would go back to 1993 and convince myself not to ask for an Atari Jaguar for Christmas! Or, even better, not to buy $50 of Atari Stock at the time for $7 a share!
On my 2nd trip, I'd go back to 1993 and further convince myself that Atari is full of crap and never to believe anything that I hear about "64-bit" consoles!
