DualShock 2 analog stick problems

ok a friend of mine grabbed a dual shock 2 controller for $5 at goodwill when we i was looking for 2600 parts and i fixed part of it but the left analog stick is kinda loose/off center and causing a constant pull to the left on his car in the game...

now if it were a car i would say take it to an alignment shop.
you can center it if your gentle with it but its pretty off.

i know there a way to tighten them up/re center them but i dont know how.

any one know?

I'm not sure about tightening, but if you're good with a soldering iron, or know someone who is, you could probably have the two analog sticks swapped for each other as a stopgap. Or find a Dual Shock/Dual Shock 2 that doesn't work, and transplant one of the analog sticks from it into the unit that you're fixing.
