I think that a topic like this one has been posted a while back, but my advice is to either take a break from collecting or start concentrating on something new, possibly set a new goal for a different console that has a much smaller library so that you can accomplish that goal in a shorter time period. I went from collecting NES games to collecting NES accessories, and now I just go back and forth ;)

Take all your games, box them up nicely, and send them to me. I'll give them a nice home, I swear.
Seriously, though, I guess you pack all your stuff up and put it in a closet and give it to your grandkids one day or something. We all get older. We all change. What was once fun and important can seem trivial as we age. If you're truly tired of collecting then move on to something that interests you. Take the money you spent on gaming and start an IRA.

Sit on what you currently have and give it a little time. People are always saying they lose the desire to collect, but they come back to it sooner or later. I haven't come across anyone who got out of it altogether and never started collecting (or gaming) again.
No point selling off what you have and regretting it later.

I've noticed that you haven't been posting as much lately (after looking, aside from starting this topic, your last post was 2 months ago). I don't know about you or anybody else, but reading posts on DP really gets me into collecting. Maybe I'm just a freak, but the community get me excited about what I'm doing.
So, what I would say is: try posting some more and getting back into DP, that might help.

yup, the best two pieces of advice were already stated:
1. play them
or if you're really "tired or out" of the whole thing:
2. don't sell them, box them up put them away focus on other things in life... come back when you're ready... if you don't come back in say... 3 years.... sell it.

..........well? I'm in this stage right now...i've got about 200 NES games, but no desire to collect...
I'd say get into something else/take a break.
I have lost the desire to collect..Mainly because I'm into other things..Pocketbike-MinimotoGP Racing and RC cars..
But: when I see my Son playing a vintage system-games... collecting comes right back to me..
If not for me for him...
Also: After I visit Joe's(Digital Press) Store I come home with a desire to collect games again...He's got some really cool stuff in his store..

I guess it depends on how old you are.
My opinion; box them all up and store them in the attic or in the basement, somewhere's out of the way but safe. Some day, perhaps when you have kids, perhaps sooner you'll get the itch to play them again.
Having kids btw (or nephews or neices) is a sure fire way of getting back into gaming. It starts with you setting up a console for the kids to play with and it ends with them screaming for you to let them play too.

Well, from a different angle, I'm reaching this point as well. Although I don't have the massive library others might I don't mind spending the $1 per game at the pawn shop, or maybe a bit more for desirable titles, but I've come to a new conclusion.
Most of my games get played from time to time, but I never seem to go ALL the way through and beat it 100%. So my current plans are to go back and defeat the games that have bugged me to complete and if it's not desired to be played again then I'll sell it back someplace. Otherwise, if it is something special and I enjoyed it a lot it'll find it's way in a new stack of games to stay forever, and ever, and ever (Or if somehow I go broke and need money badly). I'll be cutting back my venturing to once every 2wks (When I get paid) and buy only what I want or need to collect. Also adding the DS lite to my collection should be real nice because I've already decided to buy 1 new DS title each pay period. :D
This may or may not help you, or it may give you other ideas to collect or hang onto things but at the end, decide what you feel is best. Just remember that if you sell something off, if you want it again recall how difficult it may have been to find and get that game or system and if it's worth it to let it all go.

well said my friend. Yeah I have made it a conscious effort in 2006 to start beating my games, not just playing them or "testing" them to make sure it works. Hell, I've already beaten SWAT Kats, an off-beat obscure SNES platformer I had no intentions of beating but stuck with it.
At one point in our lives, unless we're strictly collectors... you kinda look at yourself and say "why do I have it."
Beat it, and keep it. Or beat it, or try to, and sell it.

I understand your feelings. I'm considering taking a break from collecting myself, not selling anything other than a few extra consoles.
I still really enjoy going hunting, but not as much as I once did. One reason is probably me tries of not finding a single thing, not having much money, and some other things.
I don't know for sure yet if I will start a break or not, but it could very well happen shortly for me too.

For me, collecting was linked to my high school years. When I hit college, other things became more important (women, music, etc), and I just did not have time, money and interest to collect games. After a year or so of lack of interest, I decided to start selling the things that I owned for "collectors " purposes only. Keep the games that you had as a child, keep the games that you enjoyed playing. Sell the games that you had bought just for "collectors sake" only...for these you will not miss. The others you would regret selling.

Collecting is a tough thing to do. The most important things for it are the energy and will to. Financial also plays a part but anyone that is well off financially can get games.
With energy and will you need to go to the pawn shops, goodwills, yard sales, flea market and search and fight and claw to win auctions on ebay. You also gotta expect some set backs as well. You gotta learn to get good deals too if you can't afford to spend too much $$$$
For me 2 different occasions I tried collecting NES games, 1 time I had 125 with lots of accessories but I went litterally through a 3 month spell where I could not find games where I lived and I could not win an auction for the life of me on ebay.
Another time I had 120 games and no accesories but the games were more rare then the ones I had before. I just sold them because for me collecting is pointless. I just keep the games I play. I couldn't see going out and collecting when most of my things would sit there with no use.
I'd give it a few weeks to think about it then make a decision.

I'm in your spot right now. I've almost completely lost interest in collecting. The only time I go out to check classic games is if I'm getting rid of a bunch of stuff. I've done maybe 1 or 2 long thrift runs in the past 2 months and each time it's just felt like a big waste of time. Personally, I'm just playing more games and really enjoying what I have and I'm really getting into practicing guitar again. It's nice not to be burning so much money as well on a ton of old cartridge based games. I'm sure I'll get back into it within time.
Just take a break, and enjoy something else.

Over the past two years, I've slowly unloaded most of my consoles/games that I rarely used, if at all. The only major exception has been my Genesis collection - favorite console ever. Well, last weekend, after having not played any Genesis games for months, I dragged out the bins containing my 500+ unique titles and hooked up the system. Then, I stared at the bins. This was at 1PM in the afternoon.
By 11PM that night, I had played Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Rocket Knight, and... well, that was about it. Not a single other game of that 500+ appealed to me at all. Sure, I saw some favorites in there (NHL 95, Arrow Flash, etc), but overall, I saw rows and rows of games that I just don't care about.
Sure, I'll probably keep them. Loose Genesis games don't take up a ton of space. Still, it's kind of amusing that, after having collected a large percentage of the Genesis library, the only games that I felt the urge to play were the handful that brought me to buying a Genesis in the first place long ago.

good story. yeah, goes to show you when we're caught up buying all these games, for whatever our motives may be... in the end, it likely comes down to a select few titles you come back to. The rest, you bought coz it was cheap and you 'had to have for some later time.'
Right now I know I'm swept up in finishing my SNES/GEN/NES libraries... but much like the Saturn which I loved from 2001-2005... I'm sure in 2009, whenever it might be, I'll feel the same way about SNES/NES/GEN -- you just can't have the same passion for games forever.
just my 2 cents.

I say if your intention was to simply collect, then sell the lot, otherwise wait a few days and you'll probably get the impulse again..

If your one that has the tendencies to get out of something, only to come right back into in a year or two's time i'd do whats been said above. Either box it all up and put it away for a while, or whittle it down to the stuff that you truly enjoy and let the rest of the filler go. What are you going to do with a bunch of sports or total crap titles that don't interest you in the slightest?
Since I moved and had to leave a good chunk of my games behind I've actually spent alot more time playing the massive amount of stuff that i've aquired and have enjoyed it immensly. Actually playing through the game (which had become a rarity) but really completing it has been a very nice thing. Not to mention that due to my very limited space here, new aquisitions are not bought of habbit (like they used to be) but are gotten because of a real desire to...*gasp* play them. My move has kept me in the game, and though I do feel left behind when collecting at times (due to 'missing' so much, and that I can't buy when everything comes out) I'm really glad, because I think it would have burned me out like I did back in mid 04 and I almost stopped for good then... but I knew that liquidating my collection would also never net me even half of what I put into it (damn all those modern games).
