Once again, there has been another major PSP homebrew release this week that rewards 1.50 firmware owners for not upgrading their PSP's. The Devhook v0.40/0.41 loader has just been released which allows 1.50 users to load 2.50 firmware directly from your memory stick. Not only does this gives you access to great PSP utilities like the web browser and newer video codecs, but you can also load UMD's and ISO's that require 2.5 firmware on your 1.5 PSP's.
Since the firmware is being loaded from the memory stick and not the PSP's flash memory, there is no need to worry about 'bricking' or accidently upgrading your PSP. A newer version of Devhook which allows loading of 2.71 firmware is expected soon.
There are a lot of different sites that you can download this from, but I found a couple that have pre-made downloads, so all you gotta do is stick the folders in your memory stick and you're ready to go (you might have to register first to download these though):

I think they'll hack all firmwares to be able to do everything eventually, but that's pretty cool.

Are we talking about psp playing the disc. Or running iso from the mem stick. I only have a 512 stick is that good enough or will I need a 1 gig.
If from the mem stick. How far off are they from tricking the psp to play the disc?
Thanks

Both. You can play the original UMD's and ISO's from your memory stick too.
If you don't have a large capacity memory stick, there is an app that will shrink the ISO down to a smaller size so it'll fit (kind of like DVD Shrink for PC's.). So it's possible to load a 1GB game (like GTA) on a 512 memory stick. I forget what the name of the app is, but it should be easy to find.

This is a pretty incredible breakthru. Now, I'm going to be very tempted by that Location Free TV box that Sony is pimping. Anybody with little kids and a PSP can probably relate with me. Especially if you like watching sports on TV.
I can't tell you how many times, I've been trying to watch a little bit of a NFL game or NBA game or something, but then my kids need me for something, or I have to go out in the backyard and do something, or whatever. If I had the location free TV thing, then I could use that with my PSP, and actually be able to take my PSP with me, and be able to continue to watch the game while going to my kids room, or the backyard or whatever. You have to keep your eye on those little rugrats, so you have to follow them wherever they go and make sure they aren't drinking any Clorox or anything. LOL
Also, when watching a Seattle Seahawks game, I find it very hard to answer the call of nature, when they currently have the ball on offense. With Location Free TV, I can get my Seattle Seahawk fix even when I have to spend some time on the throne. ( I know, not a pretty picture). I haven't really been tempted to game while taking care of my business, but just watching some TV is definitely doable.
So being able to use Location Free TV with a 1.5 PSP is a cool thing indeed. Now I just have to find one of those devices for a relatively decent price somehow.
