Badassical. I'm reasonably sure my parents chucked my issues of Nintendo Power long ago (especially my really early issues :( ), so this is a great way to get a fistfull of nostalgia.

God bless the usenet.

I'll mirror any specific issues that people want for some direct download love.

Thank's Poofta!
It has always amazed me, that people take their own time and effort, and then give there work away for free.
Newsgroups kick butt :)

I'm new to this newsgroup thing, how exactly does it work? I would love to get these scans!

It's not so cool for those of us who can't access newsgroups due to their ISP being run by retards.

What's the adress for the site. i tried typing in newsgroup.com on my browser to see if that was it, and I got an online dating website instead :/

hopefully this will make it's way over to a torrent web site, as I am also not too savy with newsgroups. I've used them before, but I had to pay (not that I minded, but never really thought I'd use it that much) to get a decent download rate (size that is).

Well it helps to have a broadband connection, as the files are pretty big (up to and over 100 meg) Some isp's have news service as part of your service, but many (like comcast) are not nearly as good as a premium news service. I have giganews.com $12.99 a month for 25 gig downloads. It a great place to get game music, emulator stuff, old dos\pc games, and porn :)
You can find the damdest? stuff on the newsgroups.

yeah newsgroups rock. I've been on NG since 1999. It's just a different animal/feel from regular message boards like this one.

It's also nice and simple since there are no avatars, pictures, etc. Just simple text... real old school... pros and cons for each entity, but I love both. :)

I downloaded the flood, but I'm missing issues 84, 85, 87, 89-92, 103-110, and 131.

There are a bunch of files I got that look strange, have no images in them, but are listed as part of the flood. This is the first time I've got something off usenet...did I do something wrong?

Tried opening them with Winrar? Maybe they zipped/rarred them up in a way that CDisplay can't handle. Often times this is due to the items being inside a folder. :)

update your headers!

If there's still no messages after that then your provider has ghetto lame retention :(

I'm missing the same files here, so I'm checking with the PAR file to see if i can recreate them. Were they even posted in the first place? The only one I'm showing as incomplete is the Nintendo Power 015 Strategy Guide...

oh well, we'll find out soon when I finish grabbing some PAR files.

Awesome... but it looks like I'm too late to get them all. It seems the first 50 or so from the set are purged, at least according to my newsgroup service.

I can request in that group to have them reposted, but before I do does anyone here have the whole set? I'd be happy to pay for a DVD with the missing parts of my set.

And I'd be willing to pay for media and shipping to my US hometown for the entire set.

... that sounds like an idea...

I'll PM direct download links to anyone who wants them; I just don't want the links to be publically available since that'd hulk smash my bandwidth for the month.

Maybe at the end of the month I'll openly post the most popular issues or something.

edit - and those missing issues were never posted, either :( (finally checked the PAR files)

These wouldn't be so bad if only they didn't have BIG GLARING WATERMARKS in the middle of the pages in some of the archives (Check Fun Club News #001).

Oh well. :P

I just downloaded a 10GB Nintendo Power archive of magazines from a torrent. I don't know if it's all of them, but it's still quite a bit. :)

I don't know if they're from the same archive you guys found on newsgroups, but here's a link to the torrent file for anyone that's interested. I acheived download speeds around 300kB/sec, so it finished quicker then I thought:

The archive is from Retromags.com, and the magazines are in .cbr archives which I was able to open with WinRAR. I apologize in advance if posting torrents isn't allowed.

Actually they're giving Nintendo's hard work away for free but still, its a nice download for people who grew up with these magazines

Yeah I agree. What would be a good idea then is to point people the right way to order Nintendo Power issues #1-50 (or so) direct from Nintendo even though it's 2007.

And no, ebay & any 2nd hand issues don't count since that money still won't go to them. I want it fresh from the big N! Show me the way! :king:

Sucks that as far back as they go on their website is 2004. They should take a cue from Marvel comics (http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Spider-Man-Complete-Comic-Collection/dp/B000HKIM7Q/sr=8-10/qid=1169509956/ref=pd_bbs_sr_10/002-7608821-0089662?ie=UTF8&s=software) and release the back catalog on a DVD. I'd be all over that.

As it is, Nintendo doesn't seem overly interested in catering to people that want to leaf through early Nintendo Power magazines, so it's nice to see that there's people out there that are willing to take the time to scan, orient, crop, combine and distribute 'em. Especially when the issues went from being stapled to being glued, because those are a pain in the keesker to do.

Wow that is impressive, illegal, insane, and ingenious, all in one. I would download the archives, but I don't have 5 gigabytes free at the moment!

There's someone on eBay selling a DVD disc with the first 140 Nintendo Power issues scanned in. I ordered one and it should be coming soon.

I know it's illegal, but this is a weird case where Nintendo isn't losing out anything on this, since they don't sell the back issues.

Weird...I'm not saying Im not all for it, because I am, and I have to wonder if Nintendo has caught wind of this and just doesn't care.

I'd like to see the same treatment for old game guides, which reminds me, I just made a related thread on that:

The Nintendo Power magazine seems still to be big in the US :-)
Unfortunately the so called "Nintendo Club" magazine, which was released in Germany, has passed long ago...

They probably have but when it comes to republishing past magazines, even in electronic form, there's bound to be some legal hurdles to be hopped over in regards to conpensating the various writers' works. I think Wizards of the Coast had some issues with some of Dragon magazine's past authors when the company released a CDROM with 200 or so complete issues on it. Not sure how true that is but just passing what I heard. I have a feeling that may be why Computer Gaming World (when they became Games for Windows Magazine) released the scans of their early issues for free. You can't tell me it was cheap scanning all those magazines.

It WOULD be cool if Nintendo released those old magazines. Maybe for Wii points or something or make them exclusive for subscribers.
