Anybody know anything about these?:

Apparently I'm getting one with a debug unit I found recently. I couldn't find anything about it on Google and I've never seen one offered with a debug unit before.. but it makes sense. The seller worked for a Canadian game developer and he said they got it direct from Sony. Apparently Sony released a VGA box for the PS2 for public consumption.. but it doesn't look like this. I'll have to ask this guy who he worked for. What were some Canadian developers doing PSX 1 games during the era? Can't wait to hook this up to my PC monitor.

On a side note.. anybody know where there's a collection of photos showing the various I/O configs of the various PSX models/versions?

That's the cable that comes with the PlayStation Yaroze Development kit.

Amazing irrelevant information, here's a +1 for myself. The Dreamcast has a power button too.

I believe it's a cheap transcoder, and probably won't give you the quality of say a XRGB unit or something. But it should do the trick. It would look better than say S-Video or composite.

I actually looked at the picture this time... are you sure that's a VGA connector?

Well.. I keep referring to it as one with the seller; and he hasn't corrected me. Are you thinking that plug on the end is for a serial com port? That would make sense too.

That's definately the Yaroze - PC cable.

That's definitely the Yaroze - PC cable.

Agreed. I just pulled out a yaroze.

.. "A" YAROUZE? You have more than one? I'm jealous now.

On a side note.. I've had an ongoing search on eBay for two years now for Net Yarouze's. Never saw a single one come up till a few weeks ago. In a 3 week span.. two sold on evilBay for around $150 (a steal really.. but I didn't have cash at the time). Ah well.. I'll have to settle for my debug unit.. but it's in pristine condition.

There's one on Ebay that's going to end in less than 24 hours, and it's only at $22.

I have at least 2 of 'em, (one modded, one not).

I have at least 50 dev kits from different systems. If you're interested in dev hardware, check out my site at www.gamerhistory.com

/end shameless plug

As for the VGA connector, did that ever make it out? I've seen prototypes, but don't remember ever seeing one that would have been used in "production". Though that stupid sync on green makes it a pain in the ass to use anyway...

Complete Boxed US Yaroze's go for WAY more than 150. God if mine was that cheap...

Problem with incomplete yaroze sets, they're relatively useless.

If you don't have the boot disc, memory card, and serial cable there isn't much you can do with it. But they do look nice sitting on a shelf, if that's any comfort.

..EVERYTIME? Sorry to disappoint you.. but they didn't HERE (http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-Playstation-Net-Yaroze-BLACK-Development-Console_W0QQitemZ8292053745QQihZ020QQcategoryZ6205 4QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

..actually.. that last guy has tried selling his twice now, but nobody has met his reserve in the past (including me).

We all know that there's a real nice seller slump going on on evilBay right now. It's a buyer's market. The only reason I'd like a yarouze is because they're black and I'm partial to black consoles. It's the only way to get a branded Sony PSX in black, that I know of.

And these aren't even the two I was talking about. My favorites search brought those two to my attention because it searches for "debug", "debugging" and "Yarouze" (The spelling I'm familiar with. I've seen it spelled BOTH ways.).

Lets break all these down as to WHY they didn't sell (or are getting bids) for much.

HERE (http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-Playstation-Net-Yaroze-BLACK-Development-Console_W0QQitemZ8292053745QQihZ020QQcategoryZ6205 4QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Its not boxed... and as listed as missing in the auction 'Does not include the Software Development CD, Library Reference Manual, CodeWarrior, original foam packing inserts for the console. Not to mention that the box is really trashed.'

HERE (http://cgi.ebay.com/VERY-RARE-Sony-Playstation-NET-YAROZE_W0QQitemZ8289207828QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3727Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

This is a UK model (a MUCH more easily found Yaroze than a US one). Not to mention that this one only comes with the system, its controllers a power supply and a AV cable. This unit is useless with out its memory card, not to mention that it doesnt have ANY of its codewarrior stuff and will just sit and look pretty on ones desk.

HERE (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8292086806&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX)

Of them all this one is the most complete, only missing its box and one controller. But those that are really looking to buy one of these now-a-days (since you need Win95 to actually try and develop anything, and no one has Win95 anymore) are going to buy one thats complete... with box, system manual and that doesn't look like its been their primarily used PlayStation for the last 6+ years.

If your going to buy one just to get one since you just want a black PlayStation, then I guess that thats a good price, but when I went looking for mine (and that could just be my rationailty here), I'd have imedately gone past those auctions once and never looked at them again because they arn't complete. Getting something as special and non-run of the mill as a Yaroze meant to me getting one complete and in excelent condition, and doing that costs.
