View Full Version : IGN's Dreamcast Challenge to Digital Press
Okay, it's not a personal challenge per sé, but I think they are issuing us directly enough.
We know you're out there. The Dreamcast fan that owns every single game, has five pairs of Samba de Amigo maracas, 3 keyboards, and every different color controller in triplicate. Now it's time for all of those years of collecting to be shown to the world in IGN Dreamcast's efforts to prove that the little system that could is not dead yet.
We'll showcase the top collections on one of the few places left that still cares deeply about your factory sealed Seaman box. Now's your chance. Send us pictures of everything you've got.
Send us pictures that make Sonic proud. E-mail: dreamcast_mail@ign.com
So let's show them what we are made of!

I'm assuming this is to attract much attention to their newly launched Dreamcast section. I find it odd tha they would bring back a section of the site they previously removed due to the console being dead. Maybe it's the 12 games being released this year that has them opening it back up. But seriously, bringing it back just before the NEXT generation gets kicked into full gear? That's crazy.

I think it's so cool they're putting so much focus on the Dreamcast section like this.
I can only hope for a similar revival of their N64 section, but I somehow doubt that'll ever happen.

I'll have to show off my Millenium 2000 controllers.
Wasnt it retarded that the USA colored controllers all had grey plug ins? Who was the moron that let that slip thru?

oooohhh, i'll have to get in on this. i've got my shelf all set up pretty right now, but i'll probably have to grab some of my accessories and take another nice pic.
for reference.... 100% US set. still working on the PAL exclusives... snagged a handful of JP imports as well.

Wow, that's a beautiful collection.
I also think it's very cool how IGN is going back into the Dreamcast. It never really got the respect it deserved; same with the Saturn.

I have a complete collection and more accessories than you can shake a stick at. I'm very sad that nearly everything (save for the GD-ROMs, the unit, and a few controllers) is packed away. It'd take a good half day to actually assemble it.

I can take pics of my almost complete variant collection of DC stuff....
I'm still about 60 games from calling this collection done, though most of the tough stuff is out of the way.
I've been meaning to pick one up for years, but I didn't have a credit card for e-bay back then. When I finally had the money I tried to get one from EB and they ended up being sold out.
Ah well, I snagged a nice looking one off of e-bay for a decent price, along with D2, so in a couple of days I'll finally be the owner of my very on Dramcast. :king:

I love my Dreamcasts (both of them). Don't have as big a collection as some of you - only around 35 games - but I'm quite pleased with what I've got. Enjoying IGN's re-examination very much.

You are a magnificent man. ;)
Yesterday I bought a SEALED copy of Shenmue 2 for Japanese Dreamcast in the wild. When I got home last night I.....OPENED IT!!!!
I sort of had to. Over the years one of the discs had worked loose and was rattling around inside it's sealed tomb......so I "rescued" it. LOL
I'm very pleased to see the article on the DC. Now we're going to have all of the people that snubbed the DC in favor of the PS2 hurriedly trying to amass libraries for this "suddenly cool" console.
I made a thread concerning Japanese DC game help.

Damn, if only I had a working digicam.
over 450 original games, 4 dreamcasts, 2 mice, 1 keyboard, 2 samba maracas, 2 official lightguns, official rod, coding cable, 33.6 modem, 56k modem, BBA...but no digicam :(
I'm probably not the biggest DC collection in DP, but I must be somewhere in the top 100.

I'll send em a pic as soon as I find a pair of VO:OT twin sticks and a broadband adapter. I'm sure there are tons of people out there with a bigger collection - but I'm proud of mine. 8-)
I till have My launch DC's original box and paperwork, 8 controllers (all Sega - several colors), 3 samba controllers (only 1 is by Sega) and both Samba games, 2 fishing controllers (only one works), 6 copies of JGR (2 Japanese & 1 US copy is still factory sealed), Japanese Shenmue 2, Biohazard: Code Veronica, and REZ, 17 VMU's in all different colors, 3 jump packs (2 sealed - all Sega), a few semi-rare US titles, an assload of titles in general, and all my Dreamcast magazines with demo GD-ROMS.
Only one keyboard, though... :D
Thank god I worked at Babbages shortly after the DC was axed! I loaded up... For some reason, I never think we ever got any broadband adapters.

Wow, nice picture! I love my Dreamcast, and is one of the few systems that I enjoy collecting for.
However, I have always had a minor gripe about it. Why the hell did they decide to change the spines from white to black halfway through the lifecycle?
Regardless, it still looks pretty sweet all lined up.

Hmm, I should send pics of my small, but perfectly formed DC collection.
I only have the one system, but a fully Sanwa modded official DC stick is always a good thing. Along with Twin Sticks, official Gun and official Rod.
I have a complete DC shmup collection, and about 40/50-odd games in total. Mostly PAL, apart from the shmups.

I love Dreamcast. It's my favorite console. But I'm more than a little surprised that IGN brought the page back. Weird.
A little on/off topic, but how much is Bio-Hazard: Code Veronica, 2-discs, mint condition but unsealed worth?

They probably need something to kill time and keep people talking about the page until Playstation 3 comes out. Then it will disappear again.

Two things to note:
1. Some people spend $200-300 a month, sometimes more, on their games. This was already covered in a thread recently.
2. Many people with those collections probably bought a lot of the key titles when they were still new and only $30-40.

Huh. I've completed the US collection twice (sold once), and I've never seen a US game hit $100 much less $200.

Out of curiosity, on average, how much did it cost you and how long did it take to get a complete DC collection? Bought lots of games to start? Also, how much on average would a complete DC USA set go for?

A couple of years each time, but I did it through my eBay buying/selling, so it really didn't cost me anything either time - save for the time spent itself. If you just wanted to buy everything, it could probably be done in a few months - it wouldn't be cheap though.
I sold the first collection for $1500.
