Hello,

Can anybody still remember on this cult cover, which is showing the amazing painting with the tough battle between Chun Li, Blanka and Ryu?

If yes, what are your opinions about that cover?

That image will be burned in my head forever, I played that game so much. As for the cover itself, I think it's excellent.

Same here. That box art made me even more psyched to play it when I was younger, and when I finally did, it had me mesmerized all day. Classic.

I'm probably the only one that hates that cover, since it's typical 1990's Capcom USA crappy art. :P

It will always be a classic cover, not matter how confusing it may seem and no matter what anyone else says...ever.

The only thing that bothers me is the proportions, other than that it's really well done.

Other than Ryu looking like... well, not Ryu... I thought it was OK.

I digged SF2Turbo. If you look closely you can see Dhalsim teleporting in the background. Odd choice to pick E.Honda kicking (er, slapping) Sagat's ass, but that obscurity made the cover more cool to me. Besides, Honda's stage rules.

...Holy shit.
I can really only make out two knees and a shoulder, but there is definitely someone there, and Dhalsim is the only one that ever takes that pose.

Heh, thanks. Actually, I too didn't realize it until my brother and his friend pointed it out the first night he bought the game, way back in 1993.

I remember thinking "How sly/clever of Capcom!" and I knew we were in for one hell of a weekend! And we sure were. Man, those were some classic times I tell ya.

I fully agree... man, the good old days.

I loved pretty much every single Street Fighter cover art up until the PS1 US Street Fighter Alpha art. :(

But Alpha 2 was the best. :)

LOL !

Yeah, I'm shocked there are people who are saying they can't see it. Then again maybe they don't have the cartridge up close to view. It's fairly difficult, but not impossible to make out the image of Dhalsim teleporting.

It's much easier without the SF 2 Turbo words. You can clearly see his head. In proto shots in an old GameFan, they have an image of the cover sans words, and Dhalsim is easily visible.

Wow, never saw that either, neat!

I don't care for the SNES Super Street Fighter II box art, but I like the other two, the turbo more. The Super Famicom box art for SF2 and SF2T kill the US Editions imo, so they should've just used those. I don't know what the Super Famicom version of SSF2 looks like.

It looks almost as if they were trying to hide it, since it looks to be just a re-used image from a promo.

You know, if you clearly saw Dhalsim's head, you would see the red paint on it. Therefore, given that the head in question in that picture isn't painted, that's not Dhalsim in the picture.

It amazes me that some people claim to know what Dhalsim looks like when they clearly don't. I always thought that everyone could tell the difference between somebody that always wears face paint and somebody without any face paint.

I have a big original poster from this cover, on which you can see the 3 thrashing opponents in a larger shape, so I must admit, that Chun Li has a little too much muscles on this cover, especially to see this on her both powerful legs. .She was a young Chinese girl at her first appearance in 1992, it seems the american artist didn't know exactly, how must to draw such an asian woman, perhaps he thought he must draw Chun Li in this tough style, to show that she can keep up with her male counterparts, but this style let she appears herself too masculine, that is not very realistic, she must be much more female.
What you are thinking about it?

OMGZ!!! You know that Keiji Inafune (creator of Megaman) hated this cover. Then again, I think everyone hates it. LOL

And about Dhalsim being in the fight, I think that's just some monk in that painting.

I remember they had Street Fighter II Turbo at Sears for $70! It doesn't look like Dhalsim to me, just looks like him the way the paint is IMO.

Megaman 2's art isn't that much better. I know that .

Here is a scan from the poster, which is showing the painting from this cover. I must take it down from the wall to make a scan. The poster was hanging there for about 10 years already.

I don't care for it much. It's ok, not the worst, not the greatest. Why the hell is Blanka so damn big? Looks like he belongs in Rampage.

Also, what the hell kinda face is Sagat making. I'd be pissed if some 300 pound man was slapping me. Not kinda sad. He must have just got some bad news. Also, IMHO he probably slipped on that soap and water that E. Honda put on the floor. You can see the bucket behind E. Honda's leg.

That is Dhalsim in the background. Ears are pierced and you can clearly make out both knees. Lest that be Sheng Long????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Worst Street Fighter covers have to be:

Genesis C.E. What the hell is wrong with M.Bison's face? He looks like Greg Biffle's evil twin. What a mouse face. No wonder they have Guile facing the other way. I can only imagine what he looked like. A can of smashed assholes maybe ;)

Street Fighter Champion Edition TG-16 From M. Bison's over sized hands to Ryu's over sized hands and not yet corrected by lasic surgery lazy eye, this one takes the cake. I hate that cover. I want to piss on it.

The artist for this famous and tough cover is Mick McGinty, creator of the US covers of the Street Fighter II series and more, who did make an interview, which you can find here:

Also Iīd like to know how a cover can be tough.

SF2 was one of the first imports I ever bought new, and I remember the SFC version having a kickass manual and boxart that made the american versions packaging look horrible by comparison.

I don't remember any level where you fight in a brick-walled alley.

Somebody should have told the artist that.

Otherwise, it IS nicely painted, but a bit disturbingly hyper-realistic for a game with such anime-type characters. (That seemed to be an issue with a lot of US game box art in the 80's / 90's)

And, it's better than this :

Megaman 2's art isn't that much better.

The cover art for Mega Man 2 isn't perfect, but it's a million times better than the cover art for Mega Man, which looks like a third-grader drew it. Compare:

I loved the covers for the SNES versions of SF2 and SF2 Turbo, the Japanese cover art for SF2 looks kind of plain to me by comparison. Also, while on the subject of 90s Capcom US box art, for some reason when I was a kid, the cover of Final Fight really made me want a Super NES.

I'll admit the Japanese SF2 Turbo cover was really good, maybe better than the US version. But the American SF2 original box art was much better, it just stood out more than it's Japanese counterpart.

I really canīt believe that any being with eyes in itīs head can possibly think this cover-art was good. It was just trash, like 99% of the covers of the time that tried to have a more realistic look. Not only do the characters look strange, but the scene lacks any dynamic.
