I love MMO's but I haven't had a lot of time to play in a while. I have a 56 warrior on WoW but I have neglected him for a long time because I'm on a PVP server (doh), don't get to play a lot, find it hard to group, and frankly I'm not the best at it. I almost always solo because by the time a group finally forms I have to quit playing or risk being exhausted the next day (as a stay at home mom, I can't really do that) and all the friends I make level past me so fast.
Any suggestions for a MMO that's not gigantic (so I can play in the living room laptop instead of the desktop that is in the room next to baby), easy to pick up and play with a decent community that's not all like "OMG LURN2PLAY", and fun?
I've played most of the 'older' ones so no FFXI, Ragnarok (although I really loved this game for a while- the money in that game is crazy.. plus they kept banning our IP when we ran mmorpgmoney so, yeah)
I'm trying Puzzle Pirates again right now but just like before there seems to be something missing.

"let's get that bear!"
"no wait sothy! that bear is purple..that means it's too hard.."
"we can take it!" *charge*

Dungeons and Dragons Online. =) I've been enjoying it thus far.

Yea Beefy Hits recommends what I also recommend. You won't find a low-guilt MMO because the MMO gameplay design itself is the problem.

You should to switch to action rpg's, like:

Phantasy Star Online
Phantasy Star Universe (not released yet)
Monster Hunter (Playstation 2)

city or hero/city of villains. you can play for short sessions and not feel left behind. you can solo or team easily. if your friends out lvl you are vice versa you can always arrange it so you are playing on the same level. i think that could solve most of your mmo problems

PVP servers are the best, I dunno what you're talking about.

I quit WoW, and now I'm waiting for PHANTASY STAR UNIVERSE cuz its gonna be the best shit ever.

edit: PSU is coming out for PS2, 360, and PC. The PC version is where its at 8-)

When it comes to MMOs I'm not a "social" person. Several years ago when I had broadband (I don't have it anymore) I signed up with Neocron (http://ng.neocron.com/); over the next few years (as my finances ebbed & flowed) I thoroughly enjoyed it. I cancellled it and rejoined several times when I could simply because I enjoyed it so much. It's not a very popular game but I'm not surprised it's still around. I enjoyed the SciFi setting and found it enjoyable to play alone (but there IS PvP and factions) because there was so much to do solo (You can buy apartments, vehicles and just hang round if you want). It ran on my severely underpowered PC well too.

If I got braodband again tomoorow.. I'd play it again.

Maybe give Guildwars a go. More casual, and you don't feel smothered by a subscription commitment, in other words, no monthly fee.

EQ2 baby that's all I play now. Solo friendly and easy to get into. Might not be laptop friendly though.

DDO is not a solo game at all even with the new solo options coming it is a group only game so you might not like it (free trial is available)

Auto Assault is great for a quick mmo fix and very solo friendly but it's all about cars which is different but not for everyone. (free trial available)

I know my mmos so PM me with any questions. :)

Low guilt MMO =

Urban Dead
http://www.urbandead.com

or Nexus War
http://www.nexuswar.com

Both turn-based action; your moves are limited each day. Why low or no guilt? You're only playing 10-15 minutes per day, and it doesn't cost anything (unless you upgrade your account to get more character slots or something - and that's like a one-time, $5 fee).

My vote for runescape. I know alot of people laugh at it, but if you can look past the bad graphics, you have a very deep MMORPG that is most of all free to play and almost instant to play. I have started to play again and I personally love it. If you start to play let me know, cause I can hook you up.

Maple story: www.mapleglobal.com May look very cutesy, but it is VERY deep, and somewhat enjoyful, if you happen to sign up, get on broa and hit me up, MysticBash/Bleetness are my characters. Just tell me what you wanna be before you start adding points here and there.

Agree with maplestory, I just started up because I don't have any games at my parents house. Very simple action rpg thats easy to just waste time with. Great to watch tv and play for those of us with short attention spans.

Agreed, its not that bad of a game plus the price is right! With the birth of my daughter a few weeks ago, I have caught myself playing it more. Its nice to sit and play for a bit at 3 am when its bottle time and nobody else is up... Not too hard to get the hang of it, theres a little tutorial island you have to complete before you can really start playing

You could always move your warrior to a pve/rp realm with the new character transfers. The pve part should make soloing alot easier and the rp part will get rid of the 'OMFGBBQNUBCAKESL2PLAY' talk that you get on non RP servers. Then try to get into a casual guild with other high level chars that want to do Strat/Scholo/DM/BRD/BRS and plan runs with them ahead of time so you are not always LFGing.

WoW is the greatest. 8-)

Guild Wars: Buy it, love it. No monthly fee, Awesome instanced PvE without PKs and camping. Great tournament-style PvP.
I could go on...

MapleStory might be good for a free downloadable game, but I couldn't get it to run for 5 minutes without crashing, so I gave up after a couple days.

Wow, MapleGlobal.com isn't compatible with Firefox. That's a bit cheesy.
