NES - To the best of my knowledge, no link capability


Master System - To the best of my knowledge, no link capability


TG-16/PC Engine/Turbo Duo, etc,etc - To the best of my knowledge, no link capability


Genesis - Zero Tolerance has link capability if you get the special link cable for it. Unfortunately, they are incredibly rare, thus you really need to somehow build your own cable. The cable connects the two systems together via controller port 2 on each system. Supposedly the results are pretty choppy, but not bad for a Genesis. Beyond Zero Tolerance, a prototype, is also supposedly linkable via the same method. As for linking Genesis with a Xband modem, still not sure about that one.


SNES - Not sure if there is a way to link via the Xband modem?


Sega CD - To the best of my knowledge, no link capability


Neo-Geo AES - Apparently, there actually are a few Neo-Geo games that are linkable. According to Vectorman0, "League Bowling, Riding Hero and Thrash Rally all have a port on the carts (just a simple 1/8 inch headphone connector I believe), to connect to another cart for 4-player play. You may even be able to link up a home system with an MVS sytem."


Philips CD-I - I have no idea, but I'm guessing no.


Atari Jaguar - Yes, via the Jaguar JagLink Interface. Battlesphere, Air Cars and Doom are thought to be the only linkable games.


Panasonic 3DO - To the best of my knowledge, no link capability


Sega Saturn - Yes, there is a link cable, although hard to find. Also, it's suggested that you pretty much need the "Official Sega version" of the link cable for it to work right. GunGriffon II (jpn), Daytona USA: CCE (jpn), Doom (pal or jpn), Gebockers (jpn), Hyper Reverthion (jpn), Steeldom (jpn) and Hexen (pal,jpn and usa). Hexen isn't worth trying, considering you have to jump through rings of fire to get it working, and even if you do get it working, it really isn't playable. Neo-Geo CD - I have no idea regarding Neo-Geo CD.


Playstation - Yes, the games have been discussed in other threads. If somebody wants to copy and paste an up-to-date confirmed link games list in this thread, go ahead.


Nintendo 64 - I really don't know. I'm pretty sure that it can't?


Sega Dreamcast - Aero Dancing I (jpn), Aero Dancing F (jpn), F 355 Challenge (pal, jpn and usa), Sega Tetris (jpn) and Virtual-on Cyber Troopers: Orotorio Tangram (jpn or usa). Special thanks to c2000 "The SEGA nut" for all the info. Also, according to Blackjax, "King of Fighters for DC that could link up to the Neo Geo Pocket Color via a special cable". Not sure if two DC's could be linked together.

Neo-Geo AES/MVS have three games that link through the carts. There was one of the King of Fighters for DC that could link up to the Neo Geo Pocket Color via a special cable, but i never had the NGPC game so I couldn't tell you which one.

Battlesphere for Jaguar is linkable. It was hard enough finding 1 copy I don't even wanna try to get a second one to try though.

Thanks for all the information guys. I updated the original post to contain all the new info. Can we confirm that certain systems definitey did not have link capabilities? Like NES and Master System and the NEC systems?

Can anybody confirm that there is no way to link systems somehow using the old X-Band modem, in relation to the SNES and Genesis?

It is crucial to note that for the Dreamcast, the fan service discs for Aero Dancing F and i do not have systemlink support.

So you need to get the original Aero Dancing F / i japanese releases to set this up.

What about PS2, GCN and Xbox? Xbox can link with a crossover cable for any supported game. PS2 uses the iLink port on older models for ten games or so. And gamecube can be linked by the BBA for Mario Kart, 1080 and the Kirby game.

I just confirmed, the NGPC <--> DC cable was used to link up King of Fighters Dream Match 1999 on DC to King of Fighters R-2 on the NGPC

I sent away for the Genisis system link cable from the ad in the Zero Tolerance Game.
I didn't notice any more choppiness to the game, the whole game was choppy to start with.
Still kinda cool, that's the reasons I still own two Genis and two copies of ZT game.
Wish I knew where the cable was. :(

The turbo express could link with another turbo express for head-to-head gaming. The feature was never really used to any great extent though.


The TurboLink allowed two-player play. Falcon, a flight simulator, included a "head-to-head" dogfight mode that could only be accessed via TurboLink. However, very few TG-16 games offered co-op play modes especially designed with the TurboExpress in mind. [link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboExpress)]

I have two X-bands but not two SNES'. I've always wondered if you could still use this. I don't really know how it works. I didn't have one back in the 90s.

Twin Tornado, excellent C-64 link-up (Used to have this 15m long cable to hook up to my mate downstairs onto his C-64, played this game for hours on end)

Atari Lynx had loads of link-up games (California Games, Checkered Flag, Slime World...more)

Amiga -ST .........Falcon (the game) link-up

ST- Faceball (16 computers or more link-up?)

Game Boy, loads of link-ups

Also, the Super Game Boy 2 for SFC allows for the SGB2 to link up to another Game Boy.

There are more games that link a DC to a NGPC, probably 6 or 7 of them. And of course there's a lot of nice cube games that can link with a GBA or 4. Do the n64 gaemboy cart things for pokemon stadium count?

However, I don't think Anthony1 was going to include consoles that link with handhelds; nor handhelds that link with each other, for that matter (since they all do). There actually is an N64-to-Gameboy link cable, though. It was only released in Japan and as far as I know only used in one game, a horse-racing sim.

I once read some theorizing about how it might be possible to link Saturn Netlink games with a customized null-modem cable. I don't think anyone ever got it to work, though. Too bad.

Xbox can link with a crossover cable for any supported game.Dreamcast + Network Thing should be able to do the same, like with Quake 3 and stuff

In Japan the N64 with the Disk Drive Expancion has a modem attachment,i have no idea if any games were online but it did have a modem attachment.

Lastly also in Japan(japan really needs to import these things to other countrys :P ) The Megadrive early models had a meganet modem for downloading games,some one has said you could play sports titles online,but that was xband i belive.

There's also a link cable for the Game Gear. The name of it is "head-to-head" or "gear-to-gear" or something like that.

Well I guess you're either not concerned with handhelds or the GameBoy list is too exhaustive. I only have a few GBA games, and several of them are linkable, so there must be tons that are.

As for Saturn linkups, I wish that I could play some of my imports like Hyper Reverthion, Steeldom, and Gun Griffon 2 in link mode. Are you sure that Hyper Reverthion is also linkable though? I got Steeldom in the box with the link cable, but that was the sequel to Hyper Reverthion, and I don't recall it having link support. I hope it does though.
