It was a bit strange after looking around to not see an official thread for Saturn collectors to list their things and share a bit of its past. Here's the deal, list the Saturn titles you own and as you buy more games just update your list. Some additional information to add can be scarity, price you got it for, where you found it, or little details you wish to add. I'll start off (obviously).

Nah, that's too much typing for my tastes. Instead I'll just drop this link to my Saturn collection:

Damaramu's Saturn Collection (http://vgrebirth.org/community/games.asp?list=&field=&order=&id=Damaramu&platform=Saturn&x=5&y=9).

It get's updated regularly as does the rest of my game collection.

I'm at about 440 games so far... split right down the middle between domestic and Japanese with 15 or so PAL games thrown in. I hope to have ALL the domestic Saturn games one day but I just don't have the room (my home is a very large closet)

Saturn is the best ever. I've loved it since it's inception. Many of the games on my list I bought new when they were released, like Panzer Saga, Shining Force III, Bomberman and about 20 others. I bought my first Saturn new and modded it so I could play the Japanese release of Guardian Heroes right after it came out. When the solder points broke and proved unfixable I bought another Saturn with cash, put my broken Saturn in the box and took it back. What a deviant I must've been as a younger man! So far I've amassed:

The game I really want for Saturn is Street Fighter Zero 3. I loved the U.S. version on Dreamcast and I must play it with the Saturn controller.

Well, here is my shit. I bought a Saturn in Jan. 1999 and only had 2 games for 2 years (World Heroes Perfect and Fighter's History Dynamite) I played it often. But in Jan. 2001 after my friend gave me SFA 2 and BAM 2 for free, I was hooked, and it was a journey that culminated for four plus years and 330+ games.

My game count is now at 200. (I sold approx. 140 of them in 2006) I didn't update this list however, so this was my collection at its peak.

2 SEGA Saturn units (1 US NCSX modded switch, the other US with action pro replay... in different rooms. My switched Saturn is damaged and needs a magazine on top to play, the other I bought at GameCrazy is perfect)
1 Light Gun
4 meg ram cart
Action Pro Replay
Many controllers including 3D analog controller
Multitap
Lots of strategy guides including:
SF Alpha 2, SF Zero 3, KoF 97, RB Special, Albert Odyssey, Puzzle Fighter, Sonic Council, Night Warriors, Vampire Savior, 2 VF 2 guides, Dead or Alive, etc.

Now the games!

Some notes...

Best deal? Can't beat free games. Got a bunch of rare boxed goodies for free from different people over the years... including Battle Garegga (!!!), X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Shining Force III, Dragon Force, Shining the Holy Ark, etc. In all, I probably received 50 free games, all of them complete and immaculate, from four five different people from 2001-2005. I used to write for this Saturn guy's website he was trying to get off the ground, and he lived in Japan and sent me free games as a token of appreciation. I remember it started with DoA, PP Sun and Out Run June of 2002... ahhhh. I remember they came July 2, 2002... and my cousins from Texas just visited me and the family. They left the house and I was home alone. I just spent like 20 minutes, staring at the games and going through the manuals. It was freaking sweet.

I probably received $1,250 in game value for free over the years.....

Taromaru for $80 stands out, as does RSG for $65.

Most expensive game? Crows. $98. I coulda got it for 70 if I waited, but I just couldn't wait. Plus I figures all the great deals I got over the years, I can splurge here. Funny story, not more than three seconds after I sniped Crows, my house has a 3 hour blackout. I never laughed and enjoyed a blackout more than that. ;)

These days, as you may know I'm posting Saturn vid's but in 2006, man I just not been feeling it so much. Got so many good games, but I just don't have the urge these days to play any of them really. Times they a'changing.

Elsewhere on the net, my buddy is closing down his gaming message board after about a year, just because visions of grandeur were not reached and domain prices gone up and well, things have changed online. It's not like it was back in 2001, for example.

Oh well, I had my fun with Saturn, and it was really a blast. I met a bunch of great gamers and I have great little memories for it. Saturn gamers I felt were the nicest gamers around.

I love to see how many games others have gotten over time and some of the interesting stories like what Steven has. I'm not into PAL just yet, I've decided to see what I can do with domestic first, then open up to other regions and will brace it with open arms. Do to lack in funds I still hope that one day I'll get up there in the stars with a game count, but for now I am barely breaking 50 titles (Which I just won 7 more on eBay today). I wish the pawn shops around here had more Saturn games!! They usually give great prices compaired to eBay too. :/ Also wish I could get some free games from friends. LOL

Anyone have the oldergames release of lost & found vol.1 for saturn?

cyberfluxor
06-15-2006, 09:36 PM
Well, they are saying it's a rarity of 9 with 25 copies floating around. Since Oregon and Basic and Heim Waltz have only 50 and are rated 10, it just seems a bit odd. Do Saturn collectors trade Lost & Found a lot more often or something? Is there a tracking being done for the top scarcity games on the Saturn? Also Derisoba Deluxe sounds pretty cool. :)

I really don't know...I just want to buy the game.

Anyone have the oldergames release of lost & found vol.1 for saturn?

I got one off ebay a few months ago. I forgot what I paid but it wasn't that much. Can't play it since you have to have a chipped Saturn.

I started with the Saturn in 1999 with a JPN derby system and two games. I fell in love with imports first for some reason and my real collecting went from there.

In part, Steve has given me a direction to go in from the get go. The guy loves the Saturn and even though he has shifted his focus, his love (of the system) shines through. Years ago on newsgroups is where I learned of new games to buy and what was good and what to stay away from... and as you can see from my list I don't listen too well.

My goal is to complete the US catalog then move to the US DC while still picking up JPN Saturn games.

Totally awesome. How many games do you need for a complete U.S. collection?

Not sure ATM. I think around 20 or so, nothing to hard to find or expensive. It seems a few $40 - $50 games I have a chance at slip through my fingers. But, one that I scratched off for free was Dragon Force. I got last year in the secret santa here.

Awww, gee thanks, lol.

I forgot to mention, my prized jewel of my Saturn collection would be my collection of SEGA SATURN MAGAZINE. It was the best magazine I ever read, and it took me 2 full years to hunt down. It cost me $225, but was every bit worth it.

If you want to see my love for SSM and Saturn in general, not to mention read a top-notch video game topic, see this thread which I crafted in late 2003.

Ah the memories:

http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67146

Even to this day, I randomly drop by, and see there are 2 guests viewing it, or another member besides me.

Blows my mind. The topic was meant to be a simple thing, sharing the top 50 games according to SSM, but it grew into something more... most damn fun I ever had posting online.

What's the lowest I could get for Radiant Silvergun

Free. But highly unlikely. :P

I'd say, if it's complete, you're looking at $100 minimum. Try to shoot for $125 or so. I know it can go and usually goes for 150, but if you're patient and keep hunting, you can find one for 125 and save 25 bucks.

I was incredibly blessed to get it disc only from a saint for $65 shipped back on October 26, 2002 :)

i know this off subject but i saw where you bought your games virginia beach has the best game stores replays espescially

Ya, Replay > Cool Stuff in my opinion because sometimes Cool Stuff has games I want, but they are scratched to hell or incomplete. :/ He does have the inventory but Replay has the quality. Plus sometimes the Cool Stuff staff irritate me. The Extreme Media guy is just chilled, and if you get a chance to their's a grill around the corner that has some nice food!

But back to another thing, I was playing Resident Evil and got game over 2 times in about 30 minutes. I never played the original, but remember playing Nemesis on the PS back years ago. It seems quite a bit harder than I remember! Is the original just as difficult for the PS version?

Also, is it just me or is Darius Gaiden really hard, and it's equally difficult to get a high score over 1000000 on Galactic Attack?

Seriously considering trading Destruction Derby for the PSX version. The Saturn version is shockingly awful.

I wasn't until two and a half years ago that I owned any Sega systems. I got interested in playing shooters and Sega just seemed to have the cream of the crop on their consoles. Even though I bought a Saturn for that specific reason, I was more than happy to flesh it out, so to speak, with some non-shooters as well. I was very fortunate that a flea market near me had a ton of Saturn games. None of the hard to find stuff, but it let me acquire commons without much effort. Most of it was priced under $10 a title, but as I kept coming back week after week to pick up a few more, they began raising their prices. I guess they had me tagged as a collector and figured I'd simply pay more because I had to have them or something! Ebay suddenly became an alternate source for Saturn games from then on.

My favorite experience from that flea market was when I watched someone sell a boxed Saturn with a couple of games for cash. They got eight bucks for the lot and left without complaint. As I eyed the Saturn, the guy offered to sell it to me for $35. Even though I had just witnessed what he had paid for it, I jumped on the deal! It looked brand new, everything in the baggies, all the papers, warranty card, stickers, the works! Of course I'll always wonder what might have happened if I had run into them first.

I'm always suprised at how cross platformed many titles are and I admit that I have some doubles of many games, especially between the Saturn and PS1. I figured one day I'd sit down and play each version, choose a favorite and sell the duplicate. But best of all is when I can pick up a game inexpensively on one console that may be hard to find or pricey on another. For example, I found Bubble Bobble & Rainbow Islands and Herc's Adventures on the Saturn for a pittance! Not to mention that the only version of Alone in the Dark: One Eyed Jack's Revenge that I've been able to get my hands on is the Saturn version. There' still a few domestic Saturn titles I'd like to have, like Mega Man 8, Norse by Norsewest, Bug Too!, Worms and perhaps the US version of the Christmas Nights sampler.

I dug these out of my closets for a nice group photo...
Here (http://sitebuilder.verizon.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://mysite.verizon.net/res0wvu5/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/saturnus.jpg&target=tlx_new)

I remember putting together the list of Saturn imports I wanted and saying to myself "This will take a lifetime, and I'll still never get them all!". But I've been very persistent and a little lucky and have whittled that list down substantially. If and when I manage to get my self a copy of Blast Wind, I think I could stop right there and feel I've done a good job. Not that I wouldn't enjoy having Super Tempo, Wonder 3, Stellar Assault SS, or the JPN version of Doom. And should monkeys ever fly out of my butt clutching winning lotto tickets, Psychic Assassin Taromaru!
I'm kinda hoping I can pick up Elevator Action Returns on the cheap on somebody's compilation and I still haven't made up my mind which port of Twinkle Star Sprites I should get. But I've done pretty well for myself so far. My last purchase was Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius: Forever with Me which hasn't arrived yet, but it will give me a clean sweep of the Parodius games. I have a fondness for PS1 imports as well and try to use my best judgement as to which version to take for some titles and try to keep some balance between the two consoles.

You can see them...
Here (http://mysite.verizon.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://mysite.verizon.net/res0wvu5/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/saturnjpn.jpg&target=_self)

I put the English side out, but the few on the top right side that don't have English would be, from left to right, Fantastic Pinball Kyutenkai!, Gunbird, Sippu Mahou Daisakusen Kingdom Grandprix, Keio (Flying Squadron 2) Yugetaki, Vampire Savior, KOF 95 and Game Tengoku/Game Paradise LE.

Oh, the best story I have about buying Saturn imports is when I bought Battle Garegga for $60 on Ebay from someone in Ireland. I didn't even check to see if they took Pay Pal or not and as it turns out, there's no Pay Pal in Ireland! Then I find out my bank doesn't offer International money orders and that US Postal Money orders won't work in Ireland either! After exchanging many emails with the guy swearing I would get payment to him somehow, I ended up sending him a Money Gram that cost me $20 bucks to send! Hell, he could have took the cash, kept it and told Ebay I hadn't paid for the game, but I think he felt pity dealing with someone who was obviously mildly retarded and everything worked out just fine!

Before I left Japan I had around 800+ import Saturn games. Ended up selling about 600 before moving back to the US. I really only kept those that I enjoyed, were mint and complete, and that I felt were significant to my collection. Now my Saturn collection only stands at 250 Japanese Saturn games. I also have some demos, including a complete collection of mint Flash Sega Saturn demo discs (33 in all) and a few US games.

Wow Nomeaz1, that's some cool stuff you got. I'd be more tempted to do PAL before JP because I can choose English is most cases. There's only a handful of JP games I'd be able to play without knowing what the hell it's talking about.

It's a shame that game is so damned expensive since it's a great game. It's not like some crazy-rare import that you can't actually enjoy.

Little known fact... Wizardry Llylgamyn Saga is a compilation of old RPG's that was only released in Japan but all the games have an English option. It's supposed to be one of the rarest Saturn games (not a 9 or anything, but still up there.)

I know my USA collection sucks, it's hard to find reliable USA Saturn game sources for me here in the UK.

And I know I'm missing a lot of "regular" games like Road Rash... but I cant find em :(

I started this collection from scratch in late 2002, and I'm quite proud how quickly it's evolved - from zero to around 150 in a relatively short time span. It's now a major part of my collections right alongside the Xbox, PS1 and Dreamcast.

No traditional classic mode I'm afraid.

3D Lemmings is beautiful, but awkward to control and frustrating to play. It's truly the low point of the Lemmings saga - even lower than Lemmings Paintball.

Wipeout XL

Do you mean the first Wipeout? Wipeout XL was released in NTSC-J and PAL but not in the United States. I understand it's pretty desirable in both formats.

We only got the PSone version in the States

Question... What is Mighty Hits?

I need Guardian Heroes back  i lent all my old saturn stuff to one of my old friends and instead of getting them back, his trailor got demolished damn it, then a couple years later i start collecting classic games and realize that Guardian Heroes goes for up to $80. That makes me very mad. So no I gotta dish the money out to pay for a used copy of a game i bought brand new for $40 back in the day. Luckily I've gotten a pretty good re-collection since then, but that definately sucks. But I got my copy of PD saga that i aint lettin' go of so I'm all set for now.

Wipeout XL is called Wipeout 2097 in the PAL markets. I have both the PAL and NTSC U versions of it.

Mighty Hits is basically a rip off of Point Blank. Great fun little light gun shooter filled with mini games. Not quite as enjoyable as PB, but still a good effort.

Ah, yes. Now I remember. The PAL 2097 is supposedly expensive and hard to locate. I've got the Japanese version (XL) and it's a phenominal game, much better than the original.

Could you post a pic of your NTSC-U Wipeout game? The US market only got ONE Wipeout game... the original Wipeout. No XL, no 2097. I suspect that's what you have. If you've got something special I'd love to see it.

Where's the best place to pick up PAL games? I was searching around on eBay Europe and found a bunch of UK only and no international shippings. I'm only interested in later down the road buying bulk, like what I do for NTSC on-line so I can get it relatively cheaper per game.

what PAL games are you looking for? Best to stick with US eBay... eventually you'll find what you're looking for. I only bought the PAL exclusives (Z, Swagman, World League Soccer 98, etc.)

And yeah, Wipeout only saw one US release... the original. XL was JPN name, and Wipeout 2097 was the PAL name (PAL game and JP game same game, just different names)

I am a huge sega fan, I was one of the lucky suckers to get the Lost and Found Vol. 1 #7 from CGE. I also have a pic I took of the stack of them before they were sold out. I feel for all the sega fans who want that game. A production run of 25 copies is harsh for collectors, although after seeing what is on the discs I can understand....

I have about 120 or so complete games for the Saturn, many rares such as Riding Post, all the Working Designs games(including employee stamped copies) among others, and will probably go after a complete set.

Anyone feel the same way or beliefs that possibly this auction is worth dipping into?

I think its worth bidding if you dont already have some of those games.

Maybe the reserve is low enough to get the lot cheap, plus a few of the games are shown as pal in the pics which might turn a few people off.

As usual with sellers you are unsure of use you cc and not your paypal funds if you go for it.

if it's ending soon and the price is still low, go for it. Worth a risk if the price is low. But yeah... I would probably casually watch it, but be very weary of it. I probably would wait it out for a more "reputable" seller, unless the auction is still unbidded on with an hour to go.

Pretty bold of you to post the link though -- I know you want people's advice but I'm sure a few here will watch it as well... so if it's low going into the last hour you can probably forget about getting it for a bargain, coz others will be thinking the same and ready to bid.

I'm new to the Saturn Scene so I don't have much yet. Games with a (~) I only have the game and manual, all other games complete. I suppose I'll have to buy a crapload of cheap sports games and snag the giant cases...

Saturn Console Model 1 (x2)
A.M.O.K. (~)
Alone In The Dark: One-Eyed Jack's Revenge
Blazing Dragons
Bootleg Sampler
Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition
Die Hard Trilogy (~)
Hexen: Beyond Heretic (~)
Myst (~)
NFL Quarterback Club '97 (~)
Panzer Dragoon (~)
PGA Tour '97
PTO 2: Pacific Theater of Operations
Road Rash
Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire
Scorcher
Soviet Strike (~)
Tomb Raider (~)
Virtua Cop
Virtual Open Tennis
VR Virtua Racing (~)
Virtua Fighter 2 (just case and backplate. Had another game and manual inside the case)

Not too shabby though since I picked all this up for $30. Thanks Goodwill! :D

I'm alright with posting the link because I may decide to not go for it by the end, but others on here may. If it did turn out as a bidding war vs another board member then so be it but I know of a dozen others on eBay that have been trying to snipe out my bids last minute so it'll happen anyways.

Quick question for some importers. I notice that there are 4 Puyo Puyo games and none of them have information available on the Rarity Guide so what is roughly the value of each or even their scarcity?

Puyo Puyo Sun
Puyo Puyo Sun For Seganet
Puyo Puyo Two
Waku Waku Puyo Puyo Dungeon

Not sure about Puyo Puyo Sun for Seganet, but Tsu and the regular version of Sun are pretty easy to find. Waku Waku Puyo Puyo dungeon, which isn't a real Puyo game (only has the characters) isn't rare either, but not super common. Might run a good 1000 to 1500 yen in this day and age.

I'd probably say R2's all around, or R2, R2, and an R3 for Waku Waku.

Then unless it's some sort of puzzle I may not be too interested in it. When I start to go JP I won't be buying as many because I don't want a complete import collection, mainly the puzzle games and others that wouldn't require much reading or translation, such as fighting games as well.
