360 & HDTV question

I have a friend who was telling me the only difference he coould see between regular TV and HDTV while playing his 360 are brighter reds. I asked him how he has it hooked up & he said the manual said to connect the S-video and RGB at the same time. I told him to try disconnecting the S-video cable. Does the 360 in fact state to connect them both?
He mostly plays Madden '06...could it just be the game?

dude is very misinformed. There is a huge difference between 480i and 720p. Besides the huge jump in vertical resolution, you also have the switch from interlaced to progressive scan.


Your friend should be using the red, green and blue component cables, and make sure he has the little switch set to HD instead of SD. Also, disconect the S-Video cable or any other cable other than the component cable. And of course you have to be plugging it into the high def input that can handle either 720p or 1080i.


You have to be careful with some TV's too. I have a Sony that does 1080i no problem, but when you give it a 720p source, it actually downscales that to 540p. There are alot of sets that do that with 720p. Whenever I have my 360 hooked up to that TV, I have to make sure I change the system settings to 1080i instead of 720p.

Ill admit im a retard and had an original xbox with component cables for 2 or 3 months before i realized i had to manually set it to accept hd.

my 360 runs at 1080i id use 720 p but my screen goes squirrely... fine on 420p fine on 1080 i... 720 p nope...

well, thats obviously the real name for the Core package....10 less degrees because it doesnt come with a HDD.....
