Anything based at http://stores.ebay.co.uk is a genuine eBay store at least

In any case, I sent the text and headers of the email to Crimestoppers. Not something I would usually bother doing, but this one does seem a bit different.

Yes, but spammers like to mangle email addresses. In the text, it may have a real store address, but the email actually links to a scam site. Gmail filters those out, but still...

Yeah, there was no actual hyperlinks in the email, it was just plain text.

I am guessing it is just plain foolishness, trying to get a bit of attention by being outrageous.

More than likely it's a "joe job."

Yeah, I would do, but the pro forma for submitting information to the police online is so ridiculously over-complicated that I got half way through and gave up in frustration. I sent it to Crimestoppers instead, because they just have a basic webform where you can enter the information and hit "Submit".

I wondered this - which is why I preferred the option of sending the whole email along with headers to Crimestoppers, rather than reporting the store to eBay. The chemicals they are actually selling don't look particularly dangerous.

The email mentions red phosphorus though which is a different matter.

Even if it is a "joe job", I would quite like to see it followed up because of the provocative and possibly hate-inspired nature of the content.
