I liked Super Cobra. Preferred it.
I also liked Scramble, but not quite as much.
Too bad the CV version of the former was so pathetic.

Scramble for the win for me! It's the one that gives me the most nostalgia... I remember wondering "what was at the end" :)
Super Cobra though when it came out just seemed like impossible torture x_x
Then again, for all intents and purposes Super Cobra is Scramble 2. And Gradius is it's further evolution.

Scramble got my vote as well. There's no good reason for it really, as I see both games as identical (I know they're not, but they've never really differentiated themselves in my mind). But when crusing in MAME for some retro-goodness Scramble always gets the call.

Is that a quote from the TV show, christthegamer? LOL
Anyhow, Super Cobra is really hard compared to the original Konami version of Scramble. I hear the Stern version (which I haven't tried) is much harder, probably with the fuel.
Scramble I've beaten (saying "looped" doesn't seem quite right) three times thus far.
I've made a highscore topic @ the Shmups Forum (shmups.system11.org); I'll copy it here and update it both places. Feel free to join in!
Note that I don't actually have #1; the other players are either busy with their DoDonPachi or haven't gotten a highscore in yet. One Scramble vet who found the Forum from my thread told me he's looped it FORTY FIVE TIMES.
HOW FAR CAN YOU INVADE
OUR SCRAMBLE SYSTEM ?
© Konami 1981
Rules for MAME/arcade versions: All DIPs default: 3 lives DIP setting, Upright cabinet, no autofire! Please state what version you're playing - the game was also released as the first installment in Hamster's Game Center Zoku series, and also as Scramble (US) / Scramble Wars (JP) on the Vectrex.
Okay, it's about time I put this up. Somebody embarass me and my lousy 40K+ score (MAME, keyboard). It's not too tough to loop this game, so I'm expecting to see some three, four, or even five loop scores.
Please keep track of how far you have invaded the scramble system ! It will be noted in the scores list.
Scramble (MAME32):
1. 43,610 PTS - EAH - 2nd loop, 4th area - Ed Oscuro
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
Do I like Scramble better? It's more approchable to me. Once I get exceptionally (heh) good at it, I'll move onto the Stern version, and then onto Super Cobra.
Some trivia from me: No Super Cobra units had four bladed rotors until the AH-1Z, rolled out in September 2000.
The premise of the game reminds me of an episode of Lupin the III, as well.
Great games!
