Pretty good collection. Still missing a few games though. I have been trying to get that haunted castle JAMMA for a long time. It's so hard to find. Thank god they released it in Japan for the ps2.
I haven't read the whole thread so if this has been mentioned sorry. But Dracula X Chi no Rhondo is be re released for the ps2 (I think) maybe a different system. Up dated port of the PC Engine version, with updated gprahics and a few new paths to choose from. Sounds and looks promising.

It's for the PSP. It will included the "remixed" Dracula X, the original PC Engine game, and Symphony of the Night.

Wow, there's some really awesome items in this thread.
I'm trying to collect all the US releases in factory sealed condition. It's slow work (and a bit expensive), but I'll get there eventually.
Arasoi
03-26-2007, 04:14 PM
Factory sealed? That's a big task all right =)
I don't go for sealed myself, but always shoot for best condition possible.
I think including that tape I own like... 3-4 sealed items, some of them are just crappy enough to where I never unsealed them like.. Contra/Castlevania Collection for PC.
Snapple
03-26-2007, 04:57 PM
I also don't worried about sealed. If I got a sealed item, and I knew I didn't want to sell it, I'd open it anyway. With collecting anything, I just ask for complete and as good of a condition as possible. Saves a lot of money that way.

LOI or "Castlevania" in Japan had both a Special edition release and a Limited Edition release. The Limited edition release is the one Markman posted above. The special edition is more rare, comes in a smaller brown box with an artbook not in the LE.
The LE is far more common than the SE.

LOI LE in new or sealed condition is going currently for between 80-100 dollars, on Ebay if that helps.
If by artwork you mean the lithograph, thats standard in the LE package.

People, doujinshi does NOT mean porn. Doujinshi is simply fan-made comics based on characters and / or people from movies, cartoons, manga, games or TV shows. The word is associated with hentai, but it's not the same.
THAT SAID, I -have- seen some CV hentai doujinshi at places like 4chan. I'll be damned if I know where, though. :P
Right now I'm playing through Castlevania: Lament of Innocence on PS2. I traded one of the spare DDR Konamix copies I got two weeks ago for it, and I'm enjoying it... even if it feels weird to play in 3-D. (I'm not used to 3-D games.)
Oh, I beat the first area... some castle or something? And I can't open one door because I can't figure out where the switch to open it is. Argh.

one CD is the soundtrack to Castlevania (Famicom), Castlevania II (Famicom, plus NES tracks), and one or two Game Boy Castlevania games
one CD is the soundtrack to Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
one CD is the soundtrack to Castlevania (N64)
Obviously, with a collection like yours, it will take much more than that to impress you. :)

Nice find! Too bad he won't sell it to you. You can't hook up either the VS games or the Playchoice games to a Supergun rig from what I understand, so a cab is the only option (or all the guts of the cab in something else, etc). Darn proprietary Nintendo stuff.

Ahh that first OST is Akumajo Dracula Best Vol 1, one of my favorites. I just picked up a sealed cassette version of that. I like how the music fades in and out, to the ambient sound effects to help get an atmospheric feel. Good stuff.
I also liked the CV64 and LOD OSTs, they are underrated as stand alone soundtracks (IE, not compared to other CV music.) SCV4 is quite underrated as well.
And don't worry about me being impressed, it's just nice to see people discussing Castlevania and the collecting of Castlevania.

I dunno. I've always enjoyed each CV game on it's own, regardless of where it fell into the canon of the series. With exception to the N64 ones.

Dracula's no longer the same guy as in Bram Stoker's Dracula. While I did like the way they added the Belmonts to his background... no, it just doesn't fit. I kept thinking this Dracula was the same one as in the novel. Not anymore. Now he's just a guy who happens to use the same name.
Oh well, at least they didn't say it was Judas Iscariot or anything.

That would be more interesting than "LO L BATTLE OF 1999" and "L OL BELMONT MEN THAT ARE actually little girls"

One retcon I have come to approve of over time is Legends/Dark Night Prelude.
What an awful plot, it's an even bigger and fatter ripoff of Vampire Hunter D than SOTN was, just blatant this time (especially in the character designs). Not to mention the game really sucks to actually play, compared to the other side scrolling vanias.
Iga wears his "No Maam" t-shirt proudly on this retcon.

What, the Judas is Dracula theory? Very. I don't like it at all, but it is an interesting theory at least. I don't buy it because I really doubt Jesus H. Christ would well, DAMN someone like that. He was all about the compassion and stuff. Or so people said.

I realized I never responded to the "how do i liked castlevania" advice I asked for earlier in this thread.
I'll start by saying I kind don't like Super IV, I have the virtual console version and it just kinda doesn't do it for me. SOTN kinda doesn't interest me either, I've started it a few times and just end up dropping it.
HOWEVER, I've been playing Portrait on DS, and *that* is a fun game. I've done everything in my first playthrough now except finish the game itself and get a few monster drops. Do monster drops carry over to new game+ / sisters mode, etc? If so maybe I'll just go beat it and start one of those up.

Whats really funny, is that after I posted LuxKiller and I had a great conversation, and got along famously.
Life is funny sometimes.

Well, I was going to bump it with some collection updates in a few, but its awesome to see it up to the front page anyway!
Back on topic, for today's post a quick tour of the worst Castlevania game ever made (and ironically, the rarest and most expensive to collect as well), Castlevania for Amiga:

Pink Trolls, Disco Frankenstein, Sumo Beetle Dracula, Redneck Death, needless to say this Novotrade Amiga conversion is visually wretched. The gameplay isnt much better, controls and timing sub par.
And Simon's little death scream basically kills the whole thing by itself.
Track down the ROM if you want to see Castlevania at its worst.
