Is this listing accurate? I only see one big button, which would suggest that it's actually made for Atari 2600. But considering the Simpsons debuted in 1990, that doesn't seem plausible. So... can anybody shed some light on this? I'm tempted to buy it, just to see what it's like, but it's a little on the pricey side for a curiosity buy.

A Simpsons Atari 2600 controller would make sense, given that the Simpsons were using Beta for many years after that format's death.

Google turns up plenty of results on an NES version. The box images are different, and it looks as if the auction box says sega master system. I think the second button is on the top of the joystick, and the others on the back.

I saw an SMS controller one time similar to this except it had the ALIEN license. The controller stalk was an Alien. I wish I had bought it. Never seen one since. It had a sticker on it for Toys R Us (and a price in pounds... must have come from a store in the UK.)

Yes, there are several licensed controllers in the shape of various characters. I saw a Terminator 101 (skeleton only) one at one time! I heard that these were for the Genesis, not the Master System though!

Oddly enough, there was an article about these posted recently at sega8bit.com - get the full lowdown here:

Pretty cool article. Just to add to the article, another difference between the SMS & NES version is the base, and the fact that the NES versions do have an added switch for rapid-fire.

Cheetah also released at least one other stick similar to the CharacteriStick ones, called the Argostick from the FururiStick series. Its design has a lot of influence from the Alien movie, and it seems that the joystick was released for Commodore/Sega as well as Nintendo NES.
