View Full Version : Bought out a Pawn Shop
oleanhosting

I just had a dream of a lifetime here. I bought out a pawn shop of every video game related item he had. They were going out of business and I got 38 Truckloads of Video Game stuff. Some items I am using for my newly opened Video Game store but some stuff I will like to try to sell.
I got tons (I swear it weighs a ton to) of Gensis sports titles. So if any genesis collector is looking to fill holes in thier collections with needed sports titles, pm me thier list and I will get back to you. I am only looking for $1 each (plus shipping) for these titles. Order a bunch and you will save on shipping as I will ship them Priority Mail Flat rate. I also have alot of SNES Sports titles. Same goes for that. $1 each plus shipping.
If anyone also needs any Model 1 Genesis or Model 2 Genesis, I have about 300 consloes. I need to test to see what works yet still, but I can test these and sell them.
PM me with any questions. Thanks

Oh..Gawd..lol..I spent my entire weekend going through stuff. I had 3 people helping me all weekend untangling wires as It was all just thrown in boxes. A wire mess. I have it all in totes now, but I can take some pics of it and post it. I bet I threw at least 2 truckloads out of stuff that was beyond repair or was not game related. But I will snap a few shots as I am going in at lunch time today

I'm sorry dude, but I just can't keep quiet. That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever read on here.
Well, I forgot Kevin_psx's stuff, so this is a close 2nd.
Yes, it is a lot of stuff, but I don't see anything in there that most of us don't already have. Seller, please don't take offense.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I don't see much in there that would be worth much more than the cost of shipping for it.

Oh..no offense taken. I came across some things that are good things to sell here on DP. But mostly I am going to try to sell ebay and locally becuase I know most of the people on here have this stuff. But I just wanted to post my haul since I dont think stuff like this happens to often. If you knew what I paid for it to that you be the icing on the cake, but I cannot let that cat out of the bag :wink 2:

I'm curious why not? There's nothing wrong with making a profit on your discovery, but I can understand -- not everyone shares my sentiment. I get the distinct feeling some are of the belief that if you get something cheap, you should sell it cheap. I disagree.

Not to rain on the parade, but from the looks of it, most of that stuff should be sold cheap. I know the wonders of a good cleaning, but most of those SNESs and Genesii look as though they'd be sitting around in the elements for way too long. Most of the carts look like they've been butchered, by the sun or otherwise, as well.
If they work, well, that's what they're made to do, right? And you should get a nice return on your investment if you can move them through your store. Personally, it's not worth it to me to turn them all on eBay and turn even a 50% profit (or more) on each one. After shipping and eBay/Paypal fees, it's going to look even less lucrative. Most of your sports games will, at best, go for literally pennies after shipping is said and done.
If you paid less than $250 for all of it, you got an decent deal. Any more than that, I would have walked. I'm betting you paid about $100 though, and that's not a bad deal if 90% of that stuff works.
Granted I don't have a B&M store to sell them at though and that does make all the difference in this case, especially on dollar sports games.
Personally, from the looks of it, you should have been paying salvage prices to haul that stuff away. It's evident it wasn't selling very well wherever it was at anyway.

I just picked up another 3 boxes of stuff. I only quickly glanced what was in them, but I found a Sega Power Converter to play SMS games on the Genesis and a bunch of Vic-20 carts, but I did not have the time to get the titles.
Also when I get to testing all the units they will be cleaned up if the units work. With all the units that work that I sell usually get tore apart and cleaned out. All contacts get cleaned and all games get cleaned before being tested, Especially NES Ones. In fact I before I even sell a NES i replace the 72 pin connector

That is complete madness. You have a lot of work cut out for you. However, sometimes big projects like this can be a good thing. As depending on what else you have going on in life, it could be quite fun to sit around and clean game systems. This is not sarcasm. Taking systems apart and cleaning them, turning them into something better than they were, can be quite rewarding.
On the flipside, I know how laborious this is. I am sure many people here do.
I was looking at all of those pics freaking out at how dirty it all was. It was like a horror movie.
In any event, if you do end up cleaning it all as good as you say you are, then you have my respect. That is going to be a huge undertaking.
If you wish to sell off some of your loot here, I think it would be a good idea. I sure could use a Genesis Model 2. I need to get it modded for S-Video.

I know it is going to be a huge under taking in cleaning all those systems, but my feeling is it is worth it. I still got more items to go and pick up. He has not finished cleaning out his store yet. Most of the items you saw there he did not know he even had. They were in boxes in his back room. Since my inital post I have picked up 2 more carloads of stuff. Mostly Genesis II systems and RF cords and AC Adapters and contollers. I am going to start testing the systems soon to see what is working and to see what is not working and see what can be fixed.
I can sell the systems tested but not cleaned if any of the DP members want them. I already sold a bunch of carts and that helped clear out 1 full tote of items. I am trying to answer the PM's as they come in, I hope I dont skip over any. Thanks again to all who have bought items so far.

I got 2 more boxes today. A Dole Bananna box full of NES Carts and a acer monitor box full of various items. I have not had the time to go through them all yet.
I know this is common item but I had several people ask if I had any TG-16 stuff. I was handed a Bloddy Wolf HuCard. So if anyone wants to buy this, just pm me and we can work out the details.

It isn't always about the money or turning a profit. Well, it shouldn't be.
By the way, Blissful, I'm also writing to wonder if you still have the items from your selling thread which you had 2 months ago. I still see it archived but if you're still looking to move a few items, updated prices or have some more stuff, give it a bump. I didn't have sufficient Paypal the last time you had it up.

I'm still a little fuzzy on how much stuff you got. Are the pics you posted of everything? I would think not since you said you got like 38 truckloads of stuff. I'm just curious and more than a little jealous. It might be a little clearer if you could take like one big pic of everything or maybe give us an idea of how many of those bins total you have.
Wish I could find half the amount of stuff that you had in the pics around here. It's eating me up that you won't say how much you got it for too. Personally I think that the resale/ trade value of thatstuff should be quite high, unlike some people have stated here. Especially if you plan on testing or refurbishing the systems.
oleanhosting
06-22-2006, 10:06 PM
I might let the price leak at a later date. But I do plan on clean and refurbing the systems. I might even do some small mods on some, like changing the LED on the Model 1 Genesis to a Blue LED, stuff like that.
I would love to take a whole big picture of all that stuff, but I dont have the room to do that, lol..Plus I would have to unpack it all and then repack it, plus I already sold a bunch of items.
I might take a picture of something I got today from the 2 boxes I picked up. It is a carying case for the NES. It needs washed and when I clean it up I will post some pics.

I just noticed this thread, as I haven't checked B&S in a while...
Nice haul! You didn't happen to buy out the pawn shop near the intersection of W. State and Union (the shop was actually on State), did you? I'm a Bonaventure grad (Class of '02) and I used to frequent that pawn shop all the time. INSANE amounts of video game stuff, with 10 times as much VHS videos. The clerks there never understood that instruction manuals and empty boxes had value or were sought after by anyone else, so they would always give them to me.
I am interested in any leftover NES/SNES items, especially original RF switches and AC adaptors. I still live in WNY, so I could pick them up in person.
