Or art? Codes? etc. Tell us when who and what here! If you can provide a pic all the better!

I can say with small pride that I had my 15 seconds of fame and it came in the late summer of 1998.

Back in the good ole days I got a letter printed in EGM issue #110... I was asking about the disappearence of Kelly Rickards -- the cool black guy who worked at EGM during 97 but disappeared suddenly without mention. They editted my letter by the way. I made a comment at the end "it was nice to see diversity at EGM" but you can see why they editted it out -- at the time they didn't have a black person working for them, at least in the public eye (i.e. visible within the pages of the magazine)

LOL... I remember one morning in August '98 this girl IM'ed me saying "DUDE YOU'RE IN EGM!!!!"

Her SN was like Jenn4007 or something. She was just a random stranger who decided to add me to her buddy list. It was cool, haha.

I rushed to Media Play later that day and bought it. Metal Gear was the front cover. On the back there's a cool ad of hot Saturn games too, so that was gravy! :D

NEXT GENERATION reviewed Virtua Fighter 3tb for the Dreamcast years ago and said that it was quite an improvement over the "disappointedly blocky" Saturn version of Virtua Fighter 2 (that's VF TWO.)

I wrote in that I remembered their original GLOWING review of VF2 for the Saturn where they had given it four stars (out of four.) I went on to ramble about the original Virtua Fighter ONE being blocky and that the 32x version was blocky but that Saturn VF2 looked remarkably like the arcade.

They printed my letter (or about two thirds of it) and said that they had meant to say VF1, not VF2, and that VF2 was indeed a fine game and that they were going to cut off the editor's fingers or something like that. Pretty cool.

I did once. In the EGM with Star Trek 6 on the cover. I asked a question about the Super Nova system. Shocked me when I got the issue since I sent tons of letters to EGM that never got printed.

I have a code printed in a November issue (1997? 1998?) of PC Gamer. I believe it is a very thick issue, and has Star Wars on the cover.

The code was for Settlers II. If anyone can get a scan of this, they get 5,000 meseta.

I had a code printed in Game Players magazine, but I'm hesisitant to say what it was since that'd more or less reveal my real name and hometown. The internet is a crazy place :(

Got a free gamepad out of it, but they ended up sending us a genesis pad instead of a SNES one, so my brother sold it off. Douche. :(

Funny story about how we submitted the letter:

So the game in question had just come out on the SNES and we were trying out all sorts of stuff from the arcade version's FAQ that I had pulled off of FidoNet when we realized that the home version was much more arcade perfect than we initially thought! None of the magazines at the time were reporting some of these codes, so we compiled a list of everying that GamePlayers' strategy section was missing into a text file, found a fax number somewhere in the editor's page, and faxed all of that crap to them.

...like three times because we wanted to make sure they got it.

a few issues later, there our names were in the magazine. It was quite the neat feeling.

...but yea, the issue would have been in the later half of 1994, so if anyone has a nice collection of Game Players and a scanner, I'd love to get your help on this one :)

I sent in a code to Nintendo Power for the last level of KnightRider for the NES in 89, and I'm not sure if it got printed, but I got a fancy looking reply from Nintendo thanking me profusely and telling me to keep sending them codes :)

Still have it at my Mom's place in my old toybox.

My girlfriend recently got a whole page on her in a recent PCGamer UK. They emailed her for permission and sent a copy of the magazine in the mail. Here's a scan:

A few years ago I typed a letter to one of the ign sites asking about Gamefan among other things. It got printed in the letters section with a reply. I printed out the page, but right now I'm too lazy to find it, take a picture, and load it in my pc. LOL

So to have your name/hometown in a national magazine is ok, but on a forum with probably a reader base of <1% the size is not? :hmm:

Go ahead, post the code...along with your house # and street name please. Btw...just outa curiousity, where do you store your collection? Do you keep your windows locked?

I was printed in Ultra Game Players issue 100 with a letter that made fun of Bill, who had long hair at that time. ( Strangely enough, his hair was cut a few issues later ).

I said something to the effect that he resembles one of the kids from the special ed section of the yearbook.

I was a lot younger, and a lot meaner at that age.

I remember having my letter printed in Electronic Games magazine about an Odyssey 2 game, and I also think an early issue of EGM about something else (not 100% sure about this one).

I recently had a letter of mine printed in OPM. I think it was 2 or 3 issues ago...the one with Kojima on the cover. The issue before had an article on the best playstation games you never played, and I wrote letter in saying they should add Policenauts to that list. They printed my letter, and pretty much agreed, but said they were leaning towards more English-friendly games. Still, I got some extra exposure for good ol' Policenauts ;)

Ha ha... Do I know you? I sure hope you don't hold it against me!

Actually, I haven't had any letters printed in a long time... And I think I never DID get a letter in EGM, but I did get Steve Harris to mention me by name in an interview someone did with him, heh...

My infamous Rush'N Attack code was printed in an issue of Club Nintendo magazine, down here in Mexico.

I'll be damned if I remember what happened to the issue, though...

That was a joke and I don't hold anything against you. Don't know you personally, but I knew you posted here so I figured I'd give a nod to your reputation for getting into the magazines. I actually have the magazine that made the "ubiquitous" comment. I just had to make a reference to that here LOL

A serious answer to the question, though:

I only wrote to one magazine in my lifetime and that was Hit Parader back in 1997, just some fanboy rubbish saying I was sick of all the Marilyn Manson coverage and wanted "real rock" like Motley Crue in their pages. They used my letter two months later. I am embarrassed now looking back on that.

So I am 1 for 1 in getting my letters published, just not in a gaming magazine. I used to spend my stamp money entering contests instead of writing letters but I only ever won once.

I also used to write the gaming companies who advertised in the magazines asking for promotional posters or other "freebies" they could send on their games. Too bad I didn't save more of that stuff.

This isn't exactly a letter, but I had some art posted in Volume 115 of Nintendo Power (I think it had N64 Star Wars: Rogue Squadron on the cover). 6 months prior, NP ran a contest asking readers to customize a car using Top Gear Rally's paint shop mode on the N64. They wanted to see cars with original designs. Well, I sent in my custom car, and they actually printed it! Out of thousands of entries, mine was one of the 3 they printed. I was so proud.

I have a scan of the page, but don't really have any webspace at the moment to upload it.

Incidently, if anyone cares to dig up Volume 115 of Nintendo Power to take a look, my car was the Hakuna Miata.... (long story).

The first time I'd ever gotten a letter printed in a video game mag was in 1998. The magazine was Game Infromer. I e-mailed them and told them how much I loved their Classic GI section. When I looked through the letter section of an issue I was reading a letter and wouldn't you know it, it was the very letter I wrote. I was so happy!! :-P

I also got a letter prined in EGM back in the summer of 2001. I was given the limited edition FFX cover with original artwork, so I wrote in to express my gratitude. I still have the issues where I got my letters printed in both GI and EGM. :P

I had a tip for the game Invaders from Hyperspace printed in the Spring 1983 issue of Odyssey Adventure magazine. The tip is called "Observation Mode" and has been added to the Easter Eggs section of this site. Imagine my surprise the first time I checked this site out and saw my tip and my name up there.

The first issue of Electronic Games had a letter page that consisted of letters from people in the industry. The second issue had the first real letters page and the first letter printed was by me. So I technically had the first letter ever printed in a videogame magazine.

Since then I've had eight other letters published in games magazines, along with several articles.
