This was previously codenamed the Revolution, and in usual Nintendo fashion, was changed to something less manly, supposedly because other nationalities had a hard time pronouncing the name. The system will play GC games and will give you the ability to play nes, snes, n64, some genesis and tg16 games all by downloading them through a live type service. Nintendo also plans to create new 8-bit and 16-bit style games for download. The system will have a DVD playback add-on and will retail for 249.99 USD.

On a side note, this really should be in modern gaming

Wrong forum but heres the basics. (Just check the Modern Gaming forum for everything else).

The revolution title was dropped about a week before E3. The Wii is the Revolution, the Revolution is the Wii.

No set price yet, but everyone is guessing 249.99 here in the states. It won't be more than that.

All Nintendo has said so far about the release window is 4th Quarter 06, which will more than likley be some time in November.

The Wii is backwards compatable with all GameCube games (as far as we know for now).

just go to the Nintendo website, they pretty much lay out the whole deal. Just click the Wii tab.

So - I haven't heard this mentioned yet....

Will the DS be compatible with the Wii (like the way you could connect the GBA to the gamecube for certian games?)

Yes.

I think the first game to take advantage of such a feature will be Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals for the Wii.
