Over 30,000 votes were cast, and now the results are in! Find out which consoles gamers intend to purchase this generation.

Well the day of 666 didn't bring the world to a fiery explosive end after all, and to celebrate the fact we're all living on, this week we have an interesting story for you.

Recently in our news we included a poll from Japan's Famitsu magazine asking which hardware are gamers most looking forward to next. The results were 68.8% for Wii, 21% for PS3, 7.2% for Xbox 360 and 3% for the NDS. Joystiq on the other hand have been conducting their own global poll asking which next gen systems gamers aim to own, including a combo of multiple consoles. 30,000 votes later and the results are in...

Obviously, Peter Moore from Microsoft Games was right when he said many people were "going to buy an Xbox and they're going to buy a Wii". And looking at various internet forums, it's not hard to believe. Many gamers are already proclaiming their allegiance to what has been dubbed the 'Wii60' combo as simply unbeatable value, and all a gamer could need or want.

I don't like Xbox games (too much killing/FPSes).

I'd prefer a PS3 and Nintendo Wii.
Just like previous gen was a PS2 and Cube.

I'll be going the "Wii60" route. Wii will come first, and then I'll pick up a 360 after the first price drop. PS3 just isn't on my radar. It'll be a few years before I have one of them.

This is the combo I'll probably be going for.

360 is the only one that I currently have interest in, but I have a good feeling the Wii will eventually show up with a few games that might grab me.

I'd love to have all three systems, but there's no way I can afford it. $400 for a 360? $600 for a PS3? Give me a break. The Wii's ~$250 price tag is much easier on my wallet and the controller/games have piqued my interest way more than any 360 or PS3 game I've seen yet.

Yeah but you can't trust a gamefaqs poll for honest results. There's a rather notable FF fanbase on Gamefaqs and that will skew results to the PS3

I don't like Xbox games (too much killing/FPSes).

I'd prefer a PS3 and Nintendo Wii.
Just like previous gen was a PS2 and Cube.

Games without human killing:
Table Tennis
Ridge Racer
Kameo
Fight Night Round 3
PGR3
Dead or Alive 4

Games with but not really FPS:
GRAW
Oblivion

FPS:
Call of Duty 2
Condemned
PDZ

And that's just from my collection. There are a lot of good non-fps/killing games coming to. Yeas the original Xbox was the home of the FPS, but the 360 is more broad.

I'm getting a Wii, and then 2-3 years after I'll get a PS3. The 360 is just like the other Xbox in the fact that there are like 3 games that intrest me. Only the 360 is just starting, and the Xbox is just ending. So, I guess its somewhat of an improvement.

Same here. I can't afford the PS3 and besides Warhawk there aren't any games that I want.

I'm going to be a Wii60 man, and then get a PS3 the very second Virtua Fighter 5 is released.

It's possible for me to go the Wii60 route. If more and more PC games are getting a 360 port, it could be cheaper getting a 360 than upgrading my PC. And the Wii is a must-have.

Can anyone who says the 360 doesn't have any games that interest them actually come up with a sizable list of interesting PS3 games?

Outside of MGS4 and Heavenly Sowrd there's not much i can think of. Maybe FF if you're into that, but honestly there's not much else. Motorstorm maybe but aside from that many titles like DMC4 and Tekken are just that, titles, there's no actually gameplay details available.

Im getting all 3 starting off with the Wii becuase its going to be the cheapest and it will have the virtual console and backwards gamecube compatabilty. 2nd in line will be the 360 due to Halo 3 and looking at some good 360 games, lastly the PS3 2 years from now when the price drops dermaticly and some new WWE games and Racing games come out on it,its pretty much the order i went in with the current gen consoles but with Xbox and Gamecube Switched. So Wii this year,360 Next Year and PS3 probaly in 2008 or 2009.

I got a 360 two weeks after launch, and I'll be buying a PS3 and Wii at their launches. Am I crazy? Fuck no, I just can't stay away from the latest tech. Call it a weakness or something. LOL

Nice to see the Wii getting some good results in the polls. This is the one I'm going with. No Wii60 for me, as I'm too far in debt and will be loosing my job in about 6 months tops. Besides, I'm not impressed with either the 360 or PS 3 (and no, I'm not a Nintendo Fanboy - I just don't like the 360 or PS3 - part of which is their price). Unemployment and buying new systems just don't work. :hmm:

Game development costs are getting higher and higher with the next gen and there won't be many people who buy a 400$ and a 600$ console.
Most games will be multiplatform except a few exclusives like Halo 3.

If I get anything, it will be the Wii, although the controller seeems to be not quite what I was expecting, based on some videos I watched. I hope they work out the kinks.

If I get a second system, it will be the 360, although thats still pretty expensive. I used to like the Playstation for RPGs but I dont play those much anymore, plus all of Square's new games seem to suck. They haven't made an actual Final Fantasy game in 5 years, and the demo I played of XII did not excite me in the slightest, and thats PS2 anyway.

Im thinking Wii-oGeo this year.

I'm only getting a Wii. Not a single game yet I'd buy a 360 for, and I won't get a PS3 until I've watched it for a few years to see what happens.

Then again I MAY just have to buy a 360 just for the next Culdcept...

I've been a sony fanboy since the beginning, I went out and bought the ps1 about a week after launch, then the ps2 on launch, but I have no intentions of getting the ps3 any time soon. Why you ask? All my friends accuse me of it being the price, but recently my 3rd brand new purchased ps2 hardware failed on me. I called sony, in hopes of of them seeing my loyal support, and how I had spent $800 on new ps2 hardware, that they would take my system, and fix it for free to hold me off until ps3 was released. They didn't even care to hear my story, just wanted 70 bucks plus the broken system to fix it. I just became so outraged because 4 months after my first $300 ps2 broke, i called sony and they said "sure we'll fix it, just send us your system and 150 bucks.) Wasn't worth it. My friend's xbox just broke last week, 6 months after he bought it new, microsoft fixed it for free.

Within the week after this occurance, I bought the 360, first time I've boughten an xbox. Sony had my loyalty, and I explained to them how they lost it. So now I'm a happy owner of a beautiful 360 unit.

As for nintendo, hells yeah i'm getting the wii on launch. Nintendo has had my support since day one, and for hardware functionality, every system i've boughten new from nintendo, still works to this day.

Oh, I'll probalby have them all SOMEDAY but as I've yet to have to pay more than 10 dollars for any sony hardware,(and that they want more than twice that for memory cards!), I think i'll wait several years.

Likely, I'll grab a Wii around launch using holiday money, and a 360 when they come down a little and get a couple more game s I'd like.

I know that was my point. If people are saying there isn't much exclusive to the 360 to justify it's purchase i want to know what tipps the scale in the other direction.

WOW, I'm surprised! Hardly anyone is getting a PS3, and the one that everyone wants the most is a Wii? That's just what "wii" need, a bunch of gamers convincing Nintendo that the world's lamest name for a console was a success. I thought surely the Wii would prove to be a huge failure. Oh well, at least it looks like all the people who got burned on more than one PS2 purchase aren't quite so eager now to continue lining Sony's pockets as they were last generation.

Although I voted for the Wii60 combo im leaning more towards a WiiPS2 combo for the next few years.

There are still sooooo many PS2 games I have yet to get/play and will most likely pick up one LAST slimline PS2 along with the Nintendo Wii later this year.

I'm not sure I understand your sense of humour...

So you're implying that we shouldn't buy the Wii because it isn't called the GameCube 2? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only console at this stage which is relying exclusively on its name is the PS3 :P

Anyway, I'll definintely be getting the Wii upon launch. Although the 360 looks promising, I'm not entirely convinced about its game library yet. I'll probably wait a bit for more games to come out and its price to drop considerably before I buy one.

As for me and my house--no! Must...not...idolatry...

Ahem. "Just the Wii for me." Sounds like something on a picketing sign. Nintendo had me at "NEWCOMER: Meta-Knight." Actually they had me before that. Dangit, they always had me.

I got a PS2, but...$600? And XBOX never got me.

LOL ....i love that. Wii60. LOL Good term.

I've had the 360 for a while (love it) and like the idea of the Wii being a console that my 5 yr old son will be able to play more easily due to the whole idea of physical movement. Should make for some fun multiplayer. We'll be preordering a Wii.

The Sony system will be the same ol' same ol' for me. I'll want Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo....but there ain't no way that I'm paying the PS3's launch price in order to do that. I'll wait.....for a very long time. I must admit, I'm really surprised by the warm reception to the Wii. I thought that it would get the same old "kiddie system" bullshit that the N64 and Cube suffered through.
