Ok, if you are only going to buy a single issue of any US gaming mag this year, then get the July 2006 issue of Game Informer. I just walked out to my mailbox, and inside was a beautiful treat. I paid the $10 for 10 issue thing. I do it every 10 issues. Why not? It's only a buck per issue. I can pretty much hang with just about any gaming mag at only a buck per issue.

So if you aren't already getting this issue, then head immediately to the nearest GameStop, pay the $10 snappers and pick up a copy of this issue. They usually give you the first issue right there on the spot. So it makes all the sense in the world to go there now and start things off with the July 2006 issue. Believe me, you'll be thanking me later. This mag has a total of 103 pages, and I can tell you that every single page will be interesting. Even the damn ads.

Man, this issue is sweet!!! Major e3 stuff - If you also have this pristine issue of this very fine mag, holla and tell us how you like it. This is a very nice day, getting this issue right now, I'm going to kick back with some nice cold crystal geyser water and enjoy the hell out of it.

Dude, it's $1. Just pay the $10, you get the discount card for trading in games and all that crap, but more importantly, they will give you usually the current issue, the month before (cause they usually have a few left over) and then you still get another 10 issues in the mail. It's the best value ever. It's a damn good value even if GI was a crappy mag, which it is not.

It was an okay issue. Reviews sucked as usual.

It has good E3 information but seriously, we're on the internet. We had all this information during E3.

I really like the magazine and got a subscription. One of the better gamer mags I have read.

:( I haven't got mine yet, but for some reason I always get 2 copies. I might actually be in there but I don't know, I'll see when I get mine.
It's $15 for 12 issues now, but the card is better now. You get more on trade-ins and you save on used games.

GI Previews = A+
Reviews = D-
Everything else = C+

And I don't care what anyone says, you cannot do a "Cross Platform Review" That's just silly. That's like saying lets do a review of a game on both Mac and PC platforms and grade them the same.

Yeah but some of us like to sit on the couch or the john and flip through something physical.

I got the issue but haven't had a chance to flip through it yet.

Bingo. Internet is nice, but I don't want to sit infront of this thing anymore, sometimes I'd like to just read.

Well shit, you pretty much stole my post. :(

I don't understand Anthony1's constant shilling for the magazine, but I do agree that it is of similar quality to GameFan, so I guess that may have something to do with it. Lots or pretty pictures, bad layouts, bad reviews, etc.

This issues in particular was annoying because of all of the E3 crap that was plain old news. The interviews were your standard ho-hum affair where they didn't really tell anything new or interesting and they just beat around the bush.

Regarding Need For Speed, who else thinks that this might very well be the worst entry in the series yet?

Well, that's why I have the issue, 4 of them to be specific.

It's just not something that is of paramount importance to own that this thread is making it out to be. It's a magazine.

Not trying to hate though, so I do agree it's a nice fatty issue with plenty o' shit in it.

Not to hate either, but if I am buying one issue of something this year, it's either GamesTM or Edge, even at an import price. Last few times I tried to read GI I just flicked through, said "meh", and tossed it aside after a few minutes.

No retro coverage, only mainstream domestic titles, and NFS on the cover. Ugh, I hate NFS.

Anthony, you really should check out GamesTM, even though it's expensive to get in the states :)

After they acquired EB, they realized they are now the largest videogame speciality chain in the world. Hence they can now charge more. Boo.

Ok, so maybe I went a little bit overboard on the mag this month, but man, it was just so sweet pulling it out of the mailbox. Each month it's a treat to get the new Informer. Shit, they should be paying me for as much as I'm pimping it, but I'm not getting anything out of it, I just think it's a dramatically underrated rag. GamesTM is the pimpest mag right now, but I simply can't afford to spend that much bank on a mag. I'll try to get some issues of GamesTM via trades or something, I don't mind if I don't have the most current issue. As for Edge, I'd love to have a complete collection of that. But they are expensive as F, as well.

As for the Internet being so superior, I agree with all the other posters that have already mentioned the fact that it's nice to be able to hold something in your hands, in the sunlight, in the outdoors, away from Mom's basement, and actually read something that isn't coming from a LCD screen. Believe me, the Internet is an outstanding source of information, but there is something to be said for taking some nice mags on a little vacation, so you have some nice reading material. I just took that Game Informer issue and also the newest EGM with me when I went camping. Got back today. It was absolutely wonderful to be in a nice, serene, peaceful spot of God's beauty, and to be able to kick back with a nice mag that you can hold in your hands and just check out.

GAME INFORMER DOES HAVE A REALLY LACKLUSTER REVIEW SYSTEM.

I will absolutely agree to that. The worst thing about the whole mag is their reviews. But all other parts of the mag are usually outstanding. They use a decent grade of paper, they usually provide a nice selection of screenshots to give you a good idea, and they breakdown how the game is coming along. Their news area is usually very good, and normally their retro area is very good as well. Inside the mag is a subscription thing for 24 issues for $25, so that's the best way to go for pure value.

No I don't, but they should be paying me some $$$ for all the nice things I've said about them. Shit they should give me a free subscription for life! The only reason I've been pimping them lately, is that magazines don't get talked about enough. We talk about systems and games, but don't talk so much about gaming mags. I just think GI is one of the most underrated gaming mags out there, especially when just looking at U.S. mags.

I was just a little bit too excited when I got that issue in the mail, and also, I just learned how to finally put pictures in my posts, so that might have been part of it too. :D
