I recently found a couple complete SNES games (Jungle Strike and Frogger) which had black & white inst. booklets. My question is whether these were ever printed in color, and if so, at what point do they stop the color prints and switch to b&w? Does it indicate a later printing run?

I also found a sealed SNES GameTek Wheel of Fortune, which I'm pretty sure was a budget title which came later in the system's life, which also has a b&w booklet.

Generally it was the budget re-releases that came with a B/W book. For example, I have a re-released Street Fighter 2 with a B/W book, but an original that has a color.

I have a Castlevania Bloodlines and Super Castlevania 4 that were re-released by Toys-R-Us in the late 90s, they both have black and white manuals.

Bloodlines actually came in a red cardboard box, and not a plastic case like the original.

Id guess your manuals came from budget re-releases as well.

Your games are Majesco versions. In 1998, Majesco got the rights to publish and re-release several third-party SNES titles. Majesco produced the carts and documents themselves in Mexico. All of their re-releases have black and white manuals. I believe this is the only instance of SNES games having black and white manuals.

On another note, Frogger was the only game published by Majesco that wasn't released earlier in the system's life, so that game never had a color manual. It was also the last game released on the SNES.

Hope that helps!

Wow, you're absolutely correct. I checked the copyright date on the manual, and it, indeed, said 1998.

So, if Frogger was the last SNES game released, I feel like I own a sad little piece of history. I guess with Super Mario World and SNES Frogger sitting on the shelf, all I need to do now is fill in the gaps!

I checked my red box Genesis Bloodlines, it says Majesco as well!

Thanks for the info Digitalspace.
