HAs anyone tried to use these cables - i think they look the same ( i havent disasembled/reasembled my set up in a while so i havent looked recently) - i was in radio shack this morning getting something for work and i spoted a 3 pack of these cables
i only have 2 cables for all my c64 drives and was hoping i could use these as spares - if the pins are the same
SO does anyone know? - i have never used MIDI so i dont know if those cables are the same as the old serial cables

I think theres 1 problem with the MIDI cables. I searched on the internet and came up with this graphic:

The problem would be that MIDI cables only have 5 Pins and from that there are 6,6 being reset,i have no idea if it needs the reset pin,but it probaly does, usally serial ports use every pin. Plus i think the Female DIN is different from the Male MIDI DIN. Hope this helps.

The reset pin was rarely used, so you could get by without it, but when I did some digging, I found a Usenet post where someone said they tried a MIDI cable on a Commodore serial port and found the pins were spaced wrong, so the cable wouldn't fit.
I can't say I've tried it (I'd have to find both my MIDI cable and my 1541--won't happen any time soon) but unless the cables are really, really cheap, it sounds like it's not worth the cost to try it. But that sure was a nice, MacGyver-esque idea.

thanks for the offer - i have the parts to make a couple cables but i hoped to save those parts - my cables still work - i was just hoping to have some extra laying around
yea the midi cables are realy cheap - the radio shack is closing out for they are 70% off
damn so close - but no cigar
