Rick, if I go, what about a contest involving the 1990 NWC and 1992 Campus Challenge??? I could provide the carts if needed...I'm considering going, it basically boils down to how many are showing up to SELL stuff.
What about an auction?

i think you can ask anyone that has been to one of our shows and that has been to other shows as well and they'll tell you that as far as "product for sell" we have as much (if not more) then ANY other game event/expo!
Auction? we don't get many high rollers at our shows! and you need at least 2 to get the bids up there. LOL maybe for mid range games but for high end stuff. i don't think so. there is a lot of buying going on.

Jason,
If you hold an NWC or CC contest, any chance of videotaping it? I'll provide funds for copies, if you're open to it. I think it could be pretty interesting...

rbudrick: I won't have time to film it myself, but are you meaning just taping the tournament via a VCR?
I am going now, this is confirmed. Powell's books is up there, and my girlfriend has been dying to go to that place, so we'll visit Billy Galaxy and all the other places...
Rick Weis: Well, how about mid-range auctions? I think it might be interesting, but you know your event and the people that go better than I do =) I just want to get some goodies when I am there, and it's getting more and more difficult these days! Time for you to dig out the 2600 stuff I want =P

Rick Weis: My want list for 2600/5200/7800 boxed stuff is on the buying/selling thread and on the Atari Age Forums wanted thread. As you can see, I offer very fair prices for anything I need. If you have something specific on there and no price is marked, just ask and I will let you know! I never lowball anyone.

DreamTR,
I was just hoping some videocameras could be set up to record the event...you know, see people's reactions, the scores, maybe some interviews, if possible, or maybe the giving out of any awards, if that happens. You know, kind of a mini documentary, no matter how crappy it turns out. Think anyone there would volunteer to help you out?

EDIT: ok, message sent:
Hi Walter,
I'm a long time lurker here at the TG boards, and I wanted to let you know about an upcoming event that TG may be interesting in checking out and/or recording. Please read this thread over at the DP boards:
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1019224#1019224
The NWCGE is to be held again, and DreamTR (Jason Wilson) hopes to host a mini-Nintendo World Championships like back in 1990. I asked him to film it, as I am currenly writing a book about the 1990 NWC, and gaming competitions in general, especially professional gaming, which has been earning some players big bucks lately. I have been doing interviews with all the finalists from the competition I can find, along with staff members, trying to gather as much info as possible. I thought an event like this would be icing on that cake.
Jason seemed to like the idea of filming it, but fears he just won't be able to do it himself. He asked me to contact you in the hopes of being able to set something up, or drum up some hype for volunteer filmers.
The really cool thing about this competition he wants to hold is that he wants to hold a competition usung not only his NWC cartridge(s), but also the recently found Campus Challenge cartridge, the first of its kind ever to fall into hands outside of Nintendo...the only one in collector's hands right now. It'll be the game's first public appearance outside of the 1992 Campus Challenege event.
Anyway, I think the competition could be a whole lot of fun, especially for those who were dying to play this game at the competitions when they were young(er), but never got the chance.
Do you think it would be possible to maybe drum up some hype on your end for volunteers to film it? I know it's asking a lot, but we thought that such a cool event is just asking to have this treatment, and you are someone with just the right contacts to make it happen.
Thanks very much for your time! I really appreciate it. By the way, if it is easier, please write me back at rbudrick@hotmail.com.
Yours,
Rob Budrick
It would be so cool to see peoples' faces when playing a real NWC and/or CC cart for the first time (or the first time in 16/14 years). Plus, it would be the first public debut of the CC cart since '92 if it happened, which is a mini-event in itself, imo. Jason, if there's anything I can do to help, though I won't be able to attend, please let me know.

probably won't make it this time, but this is the only show I have actually gone to in seattle. It wasn't huge, but there was lots of cool stuff there and plenty of things to buy. I urge anyone who is considering going to do so. If it's anything like the year I went it's well worth it.

y-bot: I'll probably buy a bunch of your stuff, I'm looking to rid myself of what I have too (two giant duffel bags now getting close to 300 games with more on the way)
Rick: you should update the www.nwcge.com site. You should also put something about there being a tourney for the 1990 NWC so Twin Galaxies can set up some stuff for going. Not trying to be pushy either from the tone, just suggestions, as people have been asking me questions!
Did you want to have a tourney on the Blockbuster Genesis cart? It's NBA Jam and Judge Dredd, already has the score denoted after gameplay, pretty simple.

Jason,
i'm not in control of our website, Han's is and he's busy with real life. hopefully it will get updated soon!! (and Yes, i have been bugging him about it)
i was planning on using the NWC cart for the NES championships, it will be 1 of many carts used. also depends on how many people enter the championship.
i already had a contest in mind for the genesis. should have a lot more info after next weekend.

jason,
cd/game exchange. there are quite a few in the pdx area and one in eugene. they don't normally deal with stuff pre-nes, but every now and then you see a CIB intellivision or something for a sweet deal.
i am not sure where they are at in p-town tho.

There are several CD game exchanges in the area. Use can use google to find the specific locations. Good prices and pretty cheap, although you wont find any oober rare stuff. There is also several places in the area to check out. I strongly recommend Video Game Wizards in Portland, As well as Guardian Games on the same road. Video Game Wizards is a great store owned by a young couple. They will be at the show. Lots of everything, and a good Nes section. Guardian Games is a card store that has a game section. They are also coming to the show and they carry some uncommon systems, such as some INTV stuff and even an Atari Jaguar. If you wanna trek to the Beaverton Mall, you have to check out Game Trader. This is a privately owned store that his huge with a huge supply of everything. Game Trader will be at the show. Last and definately not least is Bill Galaxy's store in Portland that is recommended for the oober rare stuff. Bill carries a ton of pre crash stuff and stuff YOU WILL NOT FIND ANYWHERE ELSE. Bill will be at the show as well. Those are some of the ones I think of, I am sure there are more. I look forward to meeting you, I will be wearing a DP badge at the show.

Yep, you pretty much got the major ones in the area. I'm a big fan of the Beaverton Game Trader; I work within walking distance, so I stop in there at least once a week. They have a policy of accepting almost anything in trade, so you'll see some interesting stuff there from time to time (a Vectrex, a CIB Intellivision Computer Module, etc.).
There's also a Game Trader in Battle Ground, WA, which is only about 20 minutes from Portland -- some of my best finds, including my Caltron 6-in-1, came from that store. It looks like he'll have a table at the show, too.
Video Game Wizards is a fairly decent choice, selection wise (and is not too far down the road from me, in fact). I don't really agree with their 'check eBay for the highest price' pricing method, but the new owners have far more selection than the previous owners did, and they occasionally have 50% off sales, which turn their lukewarm prices into pretty good deals. A similar store called Stuff (which carries far more than just video games, but had a decent selection last time I was there) can be found on SE 82nd.
Other than those, there's CD/Game Exchange, which has been mentioned by everyone else. There are a total of 6 in the area (4 in Portland, 1 in Gresham and 1 that used to be in Hillsboro, but has been relocated to Milwaukie).

Stuff is on SE 82nd and Otty Rd (near the Johnson Creek Blvd exit on I-205, near the only Krispy Kreme donuts on the east side of town). For classic stuff, they have NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBC, N64, and PSX, and their prices are fair. Their website is http://www.likestuff.com
Also, Beaverton Mall is now called Cedar Hills Crossing. Game Trader once had a store at Mall 205 as well, but that one closed a couple years ago.
I haven't been to Guardian games, more out of coincidence than anything else (I live in SE Portland so it's not too far from me). I've gotta check that place out sometime.

I only stopped at Guardian Games for the first time a couple weeks ago -- I'm in SE also, but I only usually head by it on the way to work. For those who haven't been there, their main emphasis is on collectible card games (Magic: The Gathering, mostly), AD&D and board games, but they also sell classic (and some newer) console and PC games. The selection isn't huge, but the prices are very good, and they had some very nice, minty copies of PC classics, including original release versions of Ultima III, IV and V. I'll definitely be adding it to my rotation of places to head to when I'm out looking for games.

I just stumbled apon Guardian Games today. My friend and I wanted to go to a crazy antique store that had a gyrocopter in the back but it went out of business. Guardian Games is right next door. Lots of cool old D&D stuff and crazy kids playing card games. I noticed the NWCGE fliers on the way out but I didn't realize they are coming to the show. I used to get so much stuff at the Mall 205 Game Trader years ago and I got Atari 2600 Texas Chainsaw Massacre at Beavertron Game Trader for $1 along time ago. I kinda forgot about it. The CD/Game Exchange that was on NE Broadway is right across the street from where I live. I used to buy stuff there all the time but I've never had good luck at the Hawthorne store. Their prices are all over the place depending on who prices it. I'm not a big fan of Stuff but I haven't been there in awhile. It's really just a glorified pawn shop with the same ridiculous prices. Billy Galaxy is great and he has tons of stuff from the 70's & 80's. See you all at the show!

NWCGE will have a Special Atari 2600 game release, in which every dollar from the sale of these carts will be donated to the breast cancer foundation!
the cart is made from the "post it note" which was made from the original author himself (John K Harvey) each cart says " THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER! HTTP://WWW.NATIONALBREASTCANCER.ORG " and each cart has it's own # cart in the message, making each cart different in it's own. this is a limited show release of only 20 carts! and each cart is 25.00 picture of the cart can be seen at this link:
http://atariage.com/temp/breastcart.jpg
like to personally Thank everyone involved in making this cart. John K. Harvey for taking the time to code each binary and letting us use his post it note code. Lee Krueger for the great art work on the labels, Albert Yarusso (from Atariage.com) for making the carts and labels (and giving us a good deal on them.) :) and John Hancock for thinking up the idea of making a cart for a charity.
Thanks!

I think having an arcade game would be great! As for seeing if the arcade sells, it really depends on price. From the last event I went to, things that were a good price sold, and things that were ebay prices sat. People going to these places are looking for good deals. If you truly have something rare, that is however a different story

Well, I had a great time at the con. Thanks to everyone involved. Highlights of my time there:
-swlovinist gave me a bottle of Billy Mitchell jalapeno sauce. Thanks John!
-Losing to DreamTR in the first round of the NBA Jam tournament, though I almost made a comeback after he had a 10-point lead at the end of the third quarter. He went on to win the tournament, and gave the prize to a father and son who had entered the tournament. That was pretty classy. :)
-I got to the third round of the NES tournament (Balloon Fight) and I believe I was the first guy out. I still had a lot fun in that and the other tournaments. I also participated in the N64 Goldeneye tournament and lost in the first round.
-I also got to meet a few other DP'ers - Qixmaster, NintenDK, and anotherfluke. I also met y-bot for the second time. NintenDK had an awesome museum table. Rick, sorry I didn't introduce myself to you, and I'm sorry if I'm forgetting anyone else.
-I wound up buying 27 games. Got quite a but of stuff I wanted to check out, and some shmups and racers that were on my want list.
Once again, thanks! It was nice to finally have a convention in the Portland area and I hope there will be another one in the future!

I didn't have a chance to stay for the game tournaments, but I did show up for a couple of hours in the morning. I had a chance to stop by all of the tables and booths, and I ended up buying about 3 dozen games or so (mostly NES). Some of the highlights:
- a sealed Untouchables (NES)
- Color A Dinosaur (I've been looking for this one for a while)
- Neutopia II (TG-16)
- a bunch of complete Color Dreams games
Thanks to everyone who organized the show! I'll be back next year (and maybe I'll be able to stay around for the tournaments next time ;))
