VS. Excite Bike machine questions

Someone locally listed on craigslist that they had an Excitebike arcade machine for sale. I know something about the Nintendo machines, in that there is a VS. edition and a Playchoice, so I emailed them and they told me it is a VS. It's in a big orange cab with Nintendo stickers on the side (he says one side not all of the sticker is there.) He said he could supply a picture(s) in the next couple days.
So, I had a few questions about it. First, the listed price he wants is $250 with 'All offers concidered.' So, is that a fair price for it? What are some common selling/buying prices it goes for? I'm not sure if I want to keep it or sell it off for another machine, as I'm intrested in getting an arcade cab, but I dont know about the VS series because it just seems to be glorified NES games. Also, he mentions that "Sometimes the color becomes a little off, but then it comes back." and I was wondering what that could be, if it would be expensive to fix it ect. Any help is appreciated!

$250 is definitely fair for any working game, but whether or not it's worth it to *you* is the real question. For the most part, there are no common prices that a machine goes for, as location and many other factors enter the equation. The exceptions to the rule will be your Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, and other in-demand machines.

Not entirely true -- the NES games are de-glorified Vs games. :) If you're struggling this much with whether or not to get it, you're probably better off passing on it and waiting for a machine that really grabs you. Unless space isn't an issue for you, then you're just back to the question of spending the money.

Probably not an expensive fix, could be as simple as a cap kit or replacing the color pots on the monitor board. Cap kit should be done regardless, but you could test the pots first and see if that corrects the problem.
