Hey all. I recently saw this topic (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78840) by boatofcar, and really liked what he did with Legos. He does some great work, but if you have a big collection of Legos, you may be able to make a few cool figures yourself. :D

I decided to make a feather Mario. First, I booted up the ROM image of Mario 3 and took a screenshot at 100%, and did some various Photoshopping until I ended up with this file:

As you can see, Mario has been divided into a grid. Each space represents a tall 1x1 Lego brick. Now, all that's left to do is build! For this particular model, you will have to get creative on Mario's nose, because the very tip is black and does not intersect with any other black. I used a cornerpiece to handle this part. The tail on mine also has a rather weak connection, but it looks great:

If anybody else makes this particular model, please share your creation! I would be happy to create "instructions" for any other 8 bit sprites. My next project will probably be a black and white Link from Link's Awakening. I will be happy to post a blueprint for that as well. Have fun! :)

That's pretty cool. I remember that old thread that had all those awesome Lego creations, like Link and Mega Man. Boy, I loved the Megaman one. You should make a good tutorial for him like you did for Mario!

Do you happen to have a grid of Mega Man either jumping, shooting, or standing still? (yes I'm too lazy to make one myself)

Thanks for the grid picture. I am glad I kept all my legos from when I was younger. I second the suggestion for a Mega Man one next.

Glad you all like it :D

I made a Mega Man grid for you guys. I would build one myself, but I'm fresh out of 1x1 tall black Lego bricks, perhaps the most important piece for building these characters.

This grid uses white, blue, black and peach. You could easily substitute yellow for peach, as peach bricks are fairly uncommon.

I want to see somebody make it:

(As a side note, there are a couple different ways of making these guys... You can frame them in a solid color, or you can build them 2d onto a baseplate. The baseplate method would be much easier, but not quite as cool looking. Framing may be necessary, depending on the strength of the build.)

Dang, wish the lego store in my mall didn't close.
