...but other than that, no.

I don't think anyone here would say yes.

I mean, it's a car. I can buy one myself. Without games, life is so much bleaker.

I think that there are some members here that may sell their collection and buy a Bugatti.

I'd prefer an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, tbh. If you want a rediculously priced car that has comfort and class, then Astons are the way.

But no, I wouldn't give up my main hobby and something that entertains me for something like that. I have my BMW anyhow.....

Not me. That's not the kind of car that you actually drive around town. (Imagine what insurance and gas would cost). And if you did drive like a normal car you'd probably be looking to replace it within 10 years anyways.

I'll stick to my dodge and all my games :D

My insurance company would shit if i had something like that.

I'd pass on the car because other than not wanting to give up a hobby i enjoy, i don't really like driving all that much.

Replace what I love the most, something that has given me more happiness than most other things in life, with a corny status symbol that cannot do what it was created to do (represent me as a wealthy fop)? Nah.

However, if I were to be tempted into trading all of that for a car, there's only one offer I'd lose sleep over...

What would you expect to happen if you went into a car forum and asked the people there if they'd trade their cars for a complete NES collection?

If i wanted a nice car, i wouldn't spend $$$$$ on videogames...

Not really. There's other cars (and trucks... and jetskies) I want to get and will be able to afford after college. Although it would be a nice ride, it's worth far more than my collection and in addition the upkeep is out of my price range.

1) I don't know who Jack Thompson is and therefore have little inclination to trust him. Is he important?

2) If I could afford to lay low while vacationing in Beverly Hills chances are good I could afford my own Lamborghini.

3) For me, gaming (classic in particular) and collecting is not just about having a pile of stuff. It is a continual celebration of the best parts of my youth. It stimulates my creativity and competitiveness. It keeps me in contact with the sorts of people I prefer to associate with. It represents a certain lifestyle I choose to live. A Lamborghini, by contrast, is only a thing. Therefore it wouldn't be a fair trade and I’d be getting the short end of it.

4) Okay…. a Lamborghini is not merely “a thing”, but a rather impressive car. However, it would be very dishonest of me to be driving around in something I could never realistically afford on my own. In comparison, my game collection including modded consoles and my MAME cab, all represent things I acquired within my own financial means or through my own skills and labor. I can take an honest pride in what I have and what I’ve built. I could never feel the same thing for a car which by all rights I have no business driving or owning.

5) Despite being a third-generation gearhead I’ve never understood the mindset of people who tie up their whole sense of identity or self-worth in what they drive.

Tell the banker I said “No Deal”.

Haha, yeah right. I wouldn't want to give up a good hobby just for an excellent car. When I get my license next year I'm already getting my brother's Eclipse. Definetly far from being the same thing, but it's still an excellent car, and I get to keep on gaming. :)

No, really. Never heard of the guy. Just looked him up on Wiki, though. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'd offer Lamborghinis to give up gaming. He also seems like he's a couple tacos short of a combo @_@ .

No way. I may consider a trade of hobbies though. If Jack told me he would pay for my car collection...I would consider it. Maybe if he paid for tools, parts, cars, a garage...I'd consider it but I don't think I'd be happy focusing on one thing. I'm about positive I'd turn him down. I enjoy collecting my games and I wouldn't be able to put a price on it like that. The answer is no...Jack can't replace the joy I get from building my collection. My games are a part of who I am and turning my back on them would leave a part of me behind. I may change my mind some day but I wouldnt take it right now. Not even for free travel.

How much have you spent on your collection? Deloreans aren't worth a whole lot. Up until about a year and a half ago I saw them new on http://www.delorean.com/ for about 25k. I guess they finally sold out though because I dont see them anymore.

Well, i'd agree but i doubt the rest of the board would like this to turn into a Lohan-worship thread.

I found this Delorean on Ebay some years ago. I'm a sucker for the stainless steel BTTF look but damn if this custom Delorean isnt sexy.

No fing way. I enjoy cars and I enjoy videogames, but I could never drive a lambo. Too fancy to big and inpracticle. It would just sit there as a nice ornament in the garage.

Hell my SVT handles as well as a ferrari, give me 10K worth of mods and I'll be able to hang with the lambo on a road course.

I wouldn't do it, and I didn't even have to think hard about it. However, there are plenty of circumstances that could make me give up video games for life. The OP didn't try hard enough.

Instead of hitting 88mph to go back you'd just have to jump a set of cars.

I don't know how much I've put into my collection, (I probably don't want to know!) and I doubt I'd trade it even for a Derloran.

DeloreanOne still sells "like new" refurbished Deloreans for $71,500.00 I don't know if that reflects the actual value, you can get some decent ones (I guess?) for about $15-20,000.00 on the Bay of E.

Amen to all of your points. Plus, that thing would be expensive as hell to maintain and service. Plus, I'd be too nervous to drive it anywhere. Plus, games bring me fun and joy every day. Finally I wouldn't want to give up the thrill of finding a rare cart in the wild for cheap. Talk about exhiliration!

I think the only way I'd give up my collection, would happen if (god forbid) one of my immediate family members (or best friends) was teminally ill and needed to pay off medical bills.
For a car? Definitely not. Even if the doors open upwards.

I think it actually looks kinda cool (as long as I'm not the one driving it LOL ) but that must be really prone to rolling over I would think as the DMCs were some extremely heavy cars due to the stainless steel... put an extremely heavy body up that high and I would think you're asking for the thing to tip over.

Heh, there aren't many things I could want less than a fancy car. To me, cars are little more than potential coffins on wheels (I've been in a few near-fatal accidents).

So... no, wouldn't consider it for a second.

Nope, not willing to do it, although I would feign interest in order to go on a test drive.

But honestly, If I gave up my games, I could sell the car and buy them all back with a little cash to spare to buy a shitbox car.

But is it giving up gaming or collecting? Just the games, or all the other trinkets and paraphernalia that goes with them? Big gray area there...

Now if that plane came with the deal...

A Gallardo? No thanks. First off, it's German engineered, and the Germans basically made the thing practical and drivable compared to Lambo's of the past. Second, it's still an exotic, high powered supercar, and will need expensive, routine matinence. Third, the thing is fricking FWD (front wheel drive). Who want's a high powered supercar with a front wheel drive transmission? At least Ferrari is giving their supercars the correct drive train. And my final reason would be the design, it's ugly as sin.

INo, I'm not jealous either. I'd love an overly expensive supercar, but I'd prefer luxury over power. A nice Bently Arnage would do it for me.
