I am writing this as a review of services and product provided by "Game Choice Club",
( http://www.gamechoiceclub.com ).

I ordered a Famicom Family Basic set from them for a cost of $99. The item was listed as "condition: mint" on their website. Shipping was quoted at $48.

I paid by paypal and the item was shipped promptly.

When I received the item, it was FAR from mint. The box was terribly beaten and the instructions were extremely worn and tatty. The unit itself suffers from EXTREME yellowing of the plastic and shows minor cosmetic problems. The item is not "mint" at all.

When I inquired as to what the story was, I was told that that was how they for it from Japan (not really helpful as to why it was listed as mint on their website or much of an explanation at all). They offered a $20 refund, to which I countered that $20 was hardly a dent in the $147 that I paid for the MINT item. I also informed them that I paid that amount of money based solely on the fact that the item was mint. As a compromise, I suggested that they just send me the cost of shipping, the $48.

To this they replied that shipping alone cost them $98, because of the size of the box. Turns out that since they shipped it in a box twice the size of the item, that they doubled the shipping costs for themselves. Had they simply repacked the item in smaller box they would have avoided paying an additional $50 for shipping. Strange business sense there.

Anyway, based on this fact that they paid too much for shipping, they said they could not refund me any more money than $20.

So, the question is... is it my fault they were incompetent in their shipping practices? Is it my fault I ordered a mint item and got a unit that was not mint at all? No, responsibility lies wholly with GameChoiceClub of Hong Kong.

So let this serve as a warning to those thinking about buying from them... you may not get what you order, and the business sense of GameChoiceClub is extremely questionable relating to their item descriptions, shipping practices, and customer service responsibilities.

I will never order from them again and I would suggest that if you have an opportunity to buy your imports elsewhere, do it. Don't take the chance with GameChoiceClub of Hong Kong.

Sorry to hear you had trouble with them, but I've purchased games from them on a few occasions, and each time my stuff got here in the condition stated, and very quick. I've never had a problem at all with their service. Then again, I've got nothing but sealed items from them.

I've never had a problem with them either. They were the only ones who had Space Channel 5 Part 2 Limited Edition, so I had to order. Box was well packed, item was perfect.

Unless it's not new and there's no picture of it, I don't suggest paying that much for famicom systems used. You probably could have found it cheaper on eBay.

I agree that it does sound a little wacky that they'll only refund $20 based on the argument that they basically underquoted/estimated shipping costs. And yes, that definitely doesn't sound like a "mint" anything. But I guess that's why people need to exercise a little bit of caution when they're handing out money for items online, and ask specific questions, as well as ask for photos.
