If you do decide to go for NeoGeo Puzzle Bobble / Bust-a-Move, the first game received a CD release as well as MVS, and the second is MVS only.
So that's just a case of finding 2 complete kits, as I'm sure you'll want all the art and bits, and I suppose a couple of Shockboxes with nice inserts.
Edit: Also add Puzzle Bobble Mini for NeoGeo Pocket Colour
Add:
Rainbow Islands - SMS
Rainbow Islands Extra - MD

BTW great series to collect for, the entire series is highly entertaining.

At first I thought this would be very simple. It looks a little more difficult now. I didn't even know about any MegaDrive releases. And I definitely didn't know they were made for some of these rather obscure systems. FM Towns Marty I don't even have a system yet. Maybe I should have stuck to the North American releases. But I guess that would make it too easy.
New Zealand Story.... Is this in the series at all? I haven't heard much about it until I found it was included with Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands for Atari St. It looks interesting enough.
Thanks so much for the help! I really appreciate it.
But I do think I'll have to put off the Bust a Moves/Puzzle Bobbles for now. I think the list will push 50 without them being included.

Oh but there is yet another that is considered part of the series, Liquid Kids, available only in arcade, PC Engine, and one or two other formats (I don't think it saw many home ports). LOL
I almost got the PSX Bubble Bobble Rainbow Islands pack off ebay but was sniped in the last moments, sadly I didn't feel bad about losing this one, it's actually not a good port of BB, but the RI port seems spot on save for the music copyright of Over the Rainbow expiring some time before.
It's ok though Taito Legends brings both games to the table for me, and BB and RI aren't limited in credits (BB still needs 2 players though to continue).

Haha I don't think I have room in my apartment for Arcades. I really wish I did. My girlfriend would probably kill me. She said I could have one Arcade and possibly a Pinball but that's it. She won't even let me have my beloved pool table. But I guess I need them to complete the collection.
Liquid Kids??? About to do some research on that one. I've never heard of it. $300 for a Saturn version?
I think you guys are just trying to make it tough on me ;)
Just noticed the arcade links. Thanks I'll check them out right now.
I just picked Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Islands PSX up at EB this week for $6. I thought that would be one of the more expensive ones I'd have to track down haha. I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Bubble Bobble Rainbow Islands (Xplosiv) Euro only but I got mine through a U.S. seller on Ebay

That Pinball is beautiful!!!!! That will have to be the final piece to the collection for sure.
I'll have to download that game when I get home. I'm at work until pretty late.
I really don't like playing games on the computer. But hopefully the BB/RI packs are pretty cheap. Because they are going on the list too.

No Bubble Memories release on Saturn.
Puzzle Bobble 2X & Space Invaders double pack (http://www.gamengai.com/gm_inf.php?gm_id=422)
Liquid Kids isn't part of the Bubble Bobble universe, I don't think, but is a great game.
For shits and giggles, if you want something of the same formula, and a fantastic game, Gussun Paradise (http://www.gamengai.com/gm_inf.php?gm_id=1127) is fantastic.

I've been slowly trying to collect Taito games, but more so their side scrollers and Bubble Bobble/Bust-A-Move series. They are a great GREAT company and hope they do continue to make us happy after being eatten up by Square.
I'd like to eventually get the Bubble Symphony JP game and if I were to get a pinball machine, I'm sure it'd be one like in the previous post. :D

One website I went to said there was a Bubble Memories for Saturn. Then I read their forums and they said there isn't. Thanks for the tip.
I'm still researching Liquid Kids. If it's not part of the series I will seperate it from the list. But I may still want to pick it up :)
I might have to check out Gussun Paradise. Any idea what it will cost me? I don't have a single Saturn import yet.
idrougge - How are they different? Are you talking about one specific game or all of them? I have a Parasol Stars NES proto that is supposed to be a US version. Are you saying it will likely be different than the PAL version? That would be really cool.

In Japan, about 4000 if you find one. Pretty rare...doesn't pop up that often. Great game though. I love mine. FYI -- it's a Playstation game, not Saturn.

It says "The Story of Bubble Bobble II" on the title screen. The characters are Bubby and Bobby, which are supposedly Bub and Bob in alternate forms, or something.
Bloodreign
06-30-2006, 02:08 AM
Rainbow Islands takes place after the events of Bubble Bobble, Bub and Bob were now human and it seems they had to guard the Rainbow Islands against evil, hell the last Island (Island 10) is an entire homage to bubble Bobble complete with BB eneimies, and bubbles that you can hop on just like in the first game.
BB2/Bubble Symphony is considered by some a remake of the first game, though there's too much different in it to claim it a remake (I got into an argument with a guy on IRC about BB2/BS being a remake/totally different game). The story is pretty different from the original game as well. It all makes for a very confusing timeline.

What do you mean the pinball machine isn't real????
I've removed Liquid Kids from the list.
I'll list Puzzle Bobbles/Bust a Moves. But there are tons of them. I have no idea where to start. So if someone could start that off for me, that would be great. I'll add the Neo Geo ones right now.
I was playing Parasol Stars for NES US version this morning. I was almost at the end but had to quit to go to work. It seems a lot easier than it's TG16 counterpart.

I'm still trying to figure that one out. New Zealand Story is included with Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands in a three pack for the Atari St. And someone mentioned that it exists on other systems.... I'm going to play it over the next few days and see if it has anything to do with Bubble Bobble. I haven't played it in years.

Chack 'n Pop was released for a buttload of Japanese PCs, too. I know I've seen a PC-8001 version, and I bet there's an X1 and MSX version as well.
Off the top of my head, you're missing
Rainbow Island for the Wonderswan
New Zealand Story for the FM Towns, Sinclair Spectrum, and probably the Amstrad CPC
Puzzle Bobble for the NGPC. There's an unreleased version for the Nuon floating around too, I believe.

Nightmare in the Dark: Neo Geo
Snow Brother: Various systems

Don Doko Don's somewhere between Bubble Bobble and Snow Bros by my reckoning. Don Doko Don II, however, is a Mario clone. Although I think there is a Chack 'n Pop cameo...

Don Doko Don isn't a direct sequel, but I've heard to be considered part of the BB series. It is indeed made by Taito and the gameplay is very, very similar to the BB games, it should at the very least be included in the list of similar titles. Also, I didn't see Tumble Pop on the list, very similar game as well.
