Hey everyone,
I got this and a game for $7 today. I've never seen it before, though. It works perfectly, and seems as if its never been played before. The entire thing is mint, and the buttons were extremely non-responsive until I played some games on it a bit. The only fault it has is the battery cover is missing (which makes it obvious it probably was played before!)
Anyways, I'm just wondering if anyone knows much about this particular model. The only info I was able to find was an article mentioning its release in Japan along with a Gold and Pink version. I'm looking for info like its rarity, value, and release information.
It came with the box, all documentation, and Pokemon Silver.

By the looks of the manuals and box it appears to be quite Japanese. It's odd because the game is in English, was it a selection you made in the beginning or does the unit have some regionless option?
Also don't forget to introduce yourself. :)

GameBoys are region free; the game was just an ordinary english copy. The fact it came with it was just icing on the cake ;).
Oh yeah, and I'm Stadsport. Hi, dp!

Welcome to our neck of the woods!
And nice find on the Japan GameBoy Pocket for $7. Unfortunately, I know not much about it, nor do I see mention of the JPN version in the rarity guide.

That's a nice freakin GB Pocket. My question is does it have an original greenish type screen? That would be super crazy to see in a GB pocket. @_@

That's a nice find. One of few import Game Boys I'd like to obtain.
GAC - it's a regular GB Pocket, just colored like the original bricks.
The only rough part about it is the lack of a battery cover. Nintendo sells most of the US colors through their website, but not the grey, IIRC. Maybe one of our buddies in Japan could order you one from Nintendo's Japan site?

Does anyone know off-hand if the GBP has the same vertical line problem (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=63755) as the original?
EDIT: I forgot to say, "Awesome find!" How rude of me. :)

DAMN, did you have to actually go to Japan to get it for that price? That's crazy! I thought that it was a limited edition release, but maybe I'm confusing it with another one. I'm pretty sure that it was in Japan only though.
There's a GameBoy fan site that lists it I think, but it's all in Japanese as I recall, so not alot of help there. Try searching for GameBoy threads here for links, I know a couple of really good sites for worldwide GameBoy releases have been posted, but I don't have them bookmarked anymore.
Congrats on the find! If you ever decide you wanna sell it, can I have first dibs on it? I would've been all over it for $7!

I know that this site has been posted before, but the gray GBP is pictured HERE (http://www.imgcab.com/gameboy/gameboy0.html) in the Pocket-Normal section.

It's hard to say. Under some light it looks gray, under others (sunlight, mostly) it looks like it has a greenish tint. After posting it on another site, a lot of people agreed that it does seem to have a subtile green tint, but I can't be sure as I don't have a normal GBP to compare it to.
