Just finally beat it last night....saved 49 survivors and then beat overtime mode so I got the "saint" achievement. It sucked because I got all the way to chapter 7-1 but wasn't fast enough, so the game got screwed up. Without giving it away, the psychopath you have to fight chained me up with a dog collar and it caused one of the survivors to not appear, so I had to start over.
It's defenitely all about adam's chainsaw and the three books. I used three chainsaws throughout the whole game and overtime mode, and only had one blink on me. The last couple of achievements seem pretty boring....54,000 zombies killed and the 5 and 7 day survivor. I'll probably go for them but it's gonna be a bitch.

You should just go after Adam the Clown. Once you get the chainsaws in the game, you pretty much beat it.
Clown chainsaw + 3 books = makes the chainsaw last SUPER long. AND it respawn's. After that happens it's SO easy to beat the game it's rediculous.
The chainsaw's one of my favorite weapons so far, I always head out and grab one. I have the "engineering" book, but what other two help extend it's life and where are they? I believe one is called "Criminal Acts" or something and didn't know there was a third.
Third book: I don't remember the name, but it's the one that makes sharp weapons last 3x as long. You get it in the bookstore where the two Japanese tourists are.

So, my copy arrived on Friday, along with my free (and really rather slick) faceplate. I had a quick play yesterday, and really quite enjoyed it, but I have already grown a severe dislike for the save system.
Despite what I had read, I really wasn't expecting the save system to be an issue. But it is. Frustrating is the word that springs to mind. And right now - with things as hectic as they are - I just don't feel like fighting with it. Which is a crying shame.
It feels as if I am being rushed through the game. I would much prefer to take my time, and enjoy everything on offer. If (and it is a pretty big "if" right now) I can get my head around this, I reckon I'll have a lot of fun. But, as things stand, Dead Rising is second in line after Shadow of the Colossus (and may fall further down the pecking order as the weeks roll on).
Darn.

I've been playing Dead rising for about a month now. I got the 53,000+ Zombie achievment (Wich is easier than it sounds, and i'll explain how i did it)
First, you have to get unlimited mode, Then you have to get the three health books. One is in the North plaza in t he empty store next to the hardware store, One is in the bookstore where you find Shinji and Yulu, and the last is in the entrance plaza in a bookstore on the second story. This allows you to get 3 times as many health points as you would normally.
Once you do this, Get as much food as you can find, And when you get a gallon of orange juice, milk, coffee creamer, or just some milk, Don't use it until your health is low. This method also works for the 5 day and 7 day survivor achievements.
How does this food method help? In unlimited mode, food doesn't respawn.
You also may want to kill adam the clown and get hi's chainsaws, and get one of the two books that makes chainsaws last longer. (One is in the same bookstore that you find shinji and yulu and get one of the health books)
Now, to killing 53,000+ zombies.
Go into the maintenance tunnels and use cars to run zombies over. You'll have to exit and reenter the tunnels a lot as the cars aren't indestructible. Keep gathering food so frank doesn't die, And repeat the zombie killing spree. Keep doing this until you get the achievement.
This achievement may take several days, So when you aren't playing, pause the game and leave your 360 on OVERNIGHT (Have your 360 in a well ventilated place and either have a warranty on it or an intercooler) And make sure you have a good looking Dead rising disc that you haven't had any problems with AT ALL. (Yes, some dead rising discs do not read when you are in a loading area, that happened to me and made it harder to get the 5 and 7 day survivor achievements)
If you are going to get these achievements, you may aswell get the 5 and 7 day survivor achievements. Just use the Maximum Food Benefit method that i described earlier.

you can get zombie genocider outside of unlimited, if you have a proper path it can be done in 2 1/2 days and you don't have to worry about dwindling health. all you have to do is ignore the storyline.

here are the books that extend adam's chainsaw 27 times
Paradise Plaza's book store, Everyone Luvs Books
Entertainment (cause adam juggles the chainsaw)
Engineering (it's a construction tool)
Wonderland Plaza's book store, Sir Books-a-lot
Criminal Psychology (bladed weapons)

Thats what it will do if you die. Restart and see if your character is really at level 1.

Thats kinda how it works, though if you quit (not die) you should be able to select your save. Yes if you die and click restart you get to restart the game at a higher level.

Yes but when I just quit it asks if I want to save over existing data, if you say no it just asks you again. So when you do save over it it starts me in the helicopter again only at a higher level.
This really blows.

So if you just quit (not die) after saving it restarts you at the beginning? Try overrighting the save if you are given the choice.

Oh - and after I save a game, I just turn the 360 off.
If you've made it past the entrance plaza opening, and have saved in the security room.
just turn the game off when you are done. Do not choose the "End game and restart option"
But the thing is - you actually will want to start over later on in the game. The save situation may seem annoying at first, but as the game progresses, you begin to appreciate it more.

Kent. I need a guide for good photos for him.
Brad. Where is he after he is lost?
The other five survivors i missed, wich are marked as "???". Where are they, and when are they there?
Oh, and here is spme help for people that want to know how to save Paul carson (The long haired man that uses molotov cocktails)
First save the game before going against him (Make sure it's before he kills mindy and debbie, though, so you can save them) And then after you defeat him, use the fire extinguisher nearby to extinguish the fire he accidentally set on himself.
Here is another tip: Defeat adam the clown and save Greg, who is on the ride that is out of control. Greg shows you a valuable secret passage back to Paradise plaza. However, you may get confused as where the passage is once he shows you. It is in the mirror, Cosest to the wall.

To find Brad when the scene comes up after the bomb run where he is put in the area with all the zombies. Head straight for the tunnels and go to the room that has the maintenance key, its kind of in the middle of the tunnel area. Brad will be hanging around out there. Stupid me, I didnt take the picture so I didn't get the achievement. It was a blast to kill him though.

let's just say this help requires the use of spoilers
so here goes
40 is Heather tomkins, you know how you rescued pamela? heather is pamela's twin. she let pamela to fend for herself while she hid in the toy store. she's by the cash register, so she's got a perfect view of her sister's potential slaughter
67-69 is Brett, Jonathan, and Alyssa, they show up around the third day midnight, they're at the gun shop. you walk in they start firing. You need to run out and then Brett will try to talk to you. You need to show them proof to convince them that you're not lying about a potential escape route (Proof is a photo of the Opened Air Vent)
76 is Tad Hawthorne, he's part of the Photographer's Pride scoop (Kent) so you need to go through it in order to find him. On the third day (assuming you completed Kent's Tasks on Day 1 and 2) you have to be meet Kent by 12 otherwise he meets a horrible fate.
Savable?
52-54 are NOT savable, even though you feel sympathy for thomas, he's still gonna listen to daddy
78 is NOT savable
For Kent's Missions you can get some books that increase Photo PP Values so even if you don't get a good shot you might get enough points to pass them. but it's kinda tough for me to explain kent's mission on day 1.
Hope this helps

Overtime is a continuation of the main story, but it's a little bit harder because special forces troops are everywhere. Get ending 'A' in the main game to unlock Overtime Mode.
Infinity Mode is just a fight-to-survive-slaughterfest. The problem is - food never respawns so you have to be VERY selective about when you use it.
I'm on my 6th playthrough, myself..

youruglyclone
09-28-2006, 02:39 PM
greg has to be there for the shortcut to be activated, so as far as that shortcut goes...you're boned, but that doesn't stop you from seeing any of the endings. just mean you have to either take the long routes
north plaza-wonderland-food court-al fresca-entrance-entrance plaza-paradise plaza, maintenence tunnels(assuming you have the key) or just cut through leisure park (dealing with convicts).
still no need to restart, it just means this game movement is a bit more annoying.
Slate
09-28-2006, 03:17 PM
Yeah, it doesn't stop the ending, (Not getting the shortcut) Although it is impossible (Or real near it) to get every survivor safe and still progress through the story without it.
Those convicts are a pain, but the only time you really need to go in the park (With survivors) Is to rescue sophie. And the convicts are much easier if you already beat the game and got the 53,000 zombie achievment, Because then you get the real deal megaman blaster. Keep in mind it doesn't respawn so only use it's shots against bosses to make it quicker. (But take pics of the bosses before you kill them ;) )

ok there's a misconception there, the megaman buster DOES respawn it's just that you can't have it in your inventory when it the room where it should spawn.
so if you're in the security room with the buster equipped it won't spawn however if you go to the roof or the helipad and drop the buster, then go back to the security room, it'll respawn.
it's a protection from having you load up on it, but still 300 shots is a lot

THIS MAY BE SPOILERS FOR PEOPLE:
I haven't actually gotten all 50 survivors or A ending, but the 50th survivor must be Frank or Isabela. I counted the little end shot of survivors at the sorta end of my guide. All are colored in as "saved" except Frank (or is it Carlito?), Jessie, Brad, Doc Barnaby, and Isabela. Otherwise, the first six faces in the survivor chart (Otis is counted as saved, dammit). After you get A ending, it goes into Overtime mode where Frank and Isabela gather stuff, I believe you gotta keep going until you beat the final boss and the REAL ending ticks down. So yeah Frank or Isabela when you survive Overtime mode.

Wrong. Just get the "B" ending. Jessie and Brad will be saved. You can finish the game with 53/54 survivors; either Barnaby has to die, or, if you save him, the girl bitten by a zombie (Jessica? I haven't played the game in awhile) doesn't show up.
There's a whole guide on Gamefaqs about it that's really good. It's still tedious and annoying as hell. Don't bother unless you're at level 50 and have the Real Mega Blaster, because otherwise it's a pain in the ass and even more of a hair pulling excercise. The AI in Dead Rising blows.

I don't think it has anything to do with having a memory card does it. Your still not given an option to save whenever you want. What would be the sense of having a hard drive if you were given the option to save only on a memory card?

You still cant save whenever, but having the extra mem. card will halp you out if you make a mistake and don't wanna go back.
You'd have 2 different saves - 1 on your HD, one on your memory card, just incase you wanna go back without starting all the way over.

How the heck do I get the "Frank the pimp" Acheivement? I know I have to save the 4 girls being held by the policewoman aswell as Pamela and Heather, AND the two girls in the entrance plaza, But once I am escorting the first six girls, (And waiting a LONG time for the next two to show up) The mission for the two girls in the entrance plaza never showed up! (?)
I didn't see the cutscene when barnaby wakes up, Maybe the game doesn't let you get some survivors if you don't progress through the story?

game system issue
Otis won't call you about cases if your current number of survivors in your party and potential survivors adds up to be greater than 8.
remember you can only escort 8 survivors, kill 1 and the call should happen (as long as you're not hanging in the area where the case happens.)

But I only had 6 survivors! However I didn't kill the woman being held hostage by the raincoat cult. I didn't have her in my party either. Maybe I should have killed her THEN it would have showed up?

did the game show that jennifer died or is her life bar still lingering on the corner of your screen?
