The board was in debug mode and kept reposting. I didn't have the belief that multiple posts would make me sound more right. But then again, it seemed to get your attention ;)

Getting rid of the cop car super move and replacing it with the 2 character specific super moves that drain a little life and the one that doesn't, was my favorite improvement from 1-2, even more so than the graphics upgrade. Also I think in 3 they should've ditched skate instead of Max, and maybe brought back Adam. I've never used the Dr. so I cant comment on him.

I was always pissed i could never play as Adam in the later SOR games. He was the best character in SOR1.
And yes, the cop car was a cheap.
Pluses for SOR3:
6 button support (very nice), removing the "screen" timer and giving you a meter to do special moves and they wouldnt take away your life meter (unless you used one when it wasn't full).
But i'll admit it wasn't the biggest or greatest leap over SOR2.
P.S. Yamato is a fun boss but he is weak and easy.

Isn't Bare Knuckle III expensive? I'll just stick with my copy of SOR 3. Anyway, Streets of Rage 2 is an absolute classic in my book. I loved it as a kid and I love it today. I will never get tired of this game and I come back to it time and time again.

Streets of Rage is excellent. Definetly a cornerstone franchise of the Sega Genesis. I would buy a Sega Genesis alone just to play Streets of Rage.
In fact, that's actually what I did. That's the only game I have on Genesis. LOL

Now buy yourself Streets of Rage 2 as it's a lot better than the first one. I've beaten Streets of Rage one time and don't see a reason to ever come back to it. I doubt I'll ever play it again. If I want to get my Streets of Rage fix then I go to SOR 2 and sometimes to the third one since I haven't played it that much.

And I don't like they've removed Max in SOR3, but some people didn't care about him so it comes down to personal preferences. But adding secret characters with limited move sets is something most people can agree with is not too good in the end.

Already touched on that when mentionning the super move system was nearly perfected in SOR3. SOR2 went in the right direction, but penalising your health bar whenever you used it wasn't too smart.
But i'll admit it wasn't the biggest or greatest leap over SOR2.
Of course, it was almost a generational leap. But whenever I get to SOR2, I always miss the running and rolling from SOR3. :)
SOR3 will always be my favorite, I loved everything about it, didn't like 2 very much compared to it... I guess I'm just an odd one out of the pack.

But people here are right, Japanese SOR3 (Bare Knuckle 3) is better. Uncensored and difficulty setting toned down.

It's not that expensive. $60 at most (from when i have bothered to look at least).
Even though i paid about $30 for a cart only copy i'll never complain. BK3 is the version of the game we should have got.

$60 for a Genesis/Mega Drive game is pretty expensive in my book. 8-) I played the ROM of Bare Knuckle III and I did notice that the homosexual mini boss from the first level was taken out of the U.S. version. LOL

the main probs I have with SOR3 are the fact that axel in
yellow looks rather stupid and the fact that his grand upper
voice bite was swapped for bare knuckle yet he wears gloves? LOL
Bare Knuckle 3 ROCKS and ill never part with my cart, not
while I have breath in me, infact I might even get buried with it LOL

You can play as him in the US version via a game genie code.
His moves are limited and he is way too strong, though. He makes the game far too easy (just like Shiva)

But you are bored with him before you even finish the game. -_-

I also agree that the Japanese SOR3 (Bare Knuckle 3) is much better, as it is uncensored, unaltered and the difficulty setting was toned down to make it more playable. It also has a unedit opening intro. I paid $30 for mine in mint and complete condition and have not touched SOR3 since.

I read a translated version of the story in BK3 and it's far better than that in SOR3.

Where do you guys buy those old import carts? And most importantly... why? ;)

I would ask the same thing. I'm not into buying imports but even if I were, I would prefer to buy stuff that never had a U.S. release in ANY shape or form. Golden Axe III, for example.
I understand SORIII is probably quite a bit better in the form of BKIII, same with the Super NES version of Double Dragon that was supposedly much better in Japan on the Super Famicon, but I would think the US version of either game would be good enough to get the job done.

Well SOR3 isnt fun....it's a job to get through that game. Most enemies take far too many hits to kill and the game ends up being tedious because of that.
When i heard that BK3 had a difficulty closer to that of SOR2 I decided i needed it. SOR2 had it right, crank it up when i want a challenge, crank it down when i just wanna bust some heads.

I generally do not buy the Japanese version if the US version is released here in the States as well, but if the US version has been drastically altered for the worst, as in Streets of Rage 3 and Sonic CD, then going back to the original Japanese versions makes sense to me. I have done that with several Genesis and Sega CD games within the last few years.

The guy who drew the pic is pleased you like it. ;)
But he also says there are more ways to play Streets of Rage than just on Genesis. You should consider your options.
