I was just wondering if I would be able to use my SNES Game Genie as a Super Fami cart adapter. I know it has the two plastic pieces that prevent it from fitting, but what if I unscrew the outer shell of the Game Genie...could it work then?

In all honesty, you can just break the two plastic tabs inside of the SNES cart slot. However, if you want to preserve your SNES, then I assume you can get by using a Game Genie. When I played Super Famicom games on my SNES, I always used a Naki Power Saver device to play my games with...

SNES Game Genies are dirt cheap, I'd just break the tabs off it.

I hacked the top part, that hinges out, and the back piece off of my Genie and it works like a charm for SFC, also can get a few games that didn't work before to work through it. Turns out the carts had unsnug PCB's and wasn't getting a connection without the Game Genie. If you have a model 2 snes you could also open the case and remove the cart connector protective flap assembly... it's just a few screws and you don't have to mutilate your snes. Though you are exposing your internals to dust and other stuff.

no need to hack or break anything, just unscrew the game genie and remove that front piece and it works perfectly as a converter, now any games that use the extra left and right parts of the circuit board like starfox won't work correctly *strangely megamanx2 works fine*

One warning from experience: Do not break both tabs of the System and Game Genie, and use them at the same time. My old system started acting really funny: none of my imports worked properly and U.S. games would play in super slow motion!

Does the game genie have the extra set of pins on both sides of the connector? Super FX and SA-1 games use an extra set of pins so if there is no pass through, it won't work.

The Game Genie doesn't work with the SuperFX carts, because it was only designed with 'standard' carts in mind.

The SuperFX chip runs through the extra pins that don't show up on standard carts. There was never a provision for those pins on the Game Genie... probably a combination of those carts not being on the market when the Game Genie was released, combined with the savings of maybe a buck on the manufacturing of the Game Genie.

You can also play most megadrive carts on a genesis with a game genie.

I'll have to hunt down a Genny Game Genie, especially if it also works on the Nomad.

You definitely can't use an NES Game Genie as an import converter, though. Famicom carts have a completely different setup of pins.

The best thing that I've found is a Super 8. It serves as an import-enabler for your SNES, and it lets you play Famicom and US NES carts through your SNES system. Quite a handy device.
