If you're needing a Rumble Pak for your Nintendo DS, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time at Gamestop.

An official BRAND-NEW pak, by itself, will run you $99.99.

I'm not joking. I couldn't believe it as I was looking at the case behind the counter where they keep all the games. I asked my friend Joe that works there if that was for real. He said oh yeah. They couldn't believe it themselves. Of course, he divulged, no one had purchased one yet.

I went to other Gamestops and sure enough, they're all priced the same.

I looked up the REAL retail price on Nintendo's site, however, and it was $9.99. Looks like Gamestop has really goofed up. I wonder how long before they change the price.

i read about this on some other site...

i believe this is (was?) to accomodate the 'free rumble pak with metroid prime hunters' offer. rather than price the thing at a penny and run the risk of someone picking it up for cheap, gamestops priced it at $99 knowing that nobody would actually pay that much for a rumble pak. then, when someone bought metroid, employees or the computer took off the $99 rumble pak as a discount/sale type thing. of course, within this time, nobody can go in and just buy the rumble pak separately without being raped for it.

is it stupid? sure.
but aren't we all used to that at gamestop by now?

I saw that. I got the new Japanese one because it doesn't stick out of the cartridge slot. The Japanese one fits in the Lite perfectly.

I hadn't noticed the rumble pak being seperate anywhere...does it come in a box like the Wifi USB thing? If so, then I may have to order one from Nintendo for $10.

I'll consider shelling out $25 for the lite one, once it gets some real support. How many games are there that use it, 2? 3?

It comes on a card, like an action figure might. Rather underwhelming for $99.99 :D

Do you all know why its $99.999 at Gamestop!?!? BECAUSE......they are supposed to only give them away to the people who buy Metroid Prime Hunters for the time being. So the $99 is on purpose so people wont buy them

Yeah, that's what DocRamon said earlier above. Confirmation is good though.

Are these official rumble packs and for what games do they work with? Would it be worth it to purchase and does it not displace your hand and make it uncomfortable?

It's a random price, there free w/ a game, primarily metriod hunters. the price is soposed to hint to the cashier that it's a freebee, also it is the official one, we only got two in our store, went before i could grab one. but if u can find a store that has them grab a game so they can give you one.

yes, they're official... it works with...

metroid prime pinball
metroid prime hunters
super princess peach
mario & luigi: partners in time
magnetica

and i'm sure it'll work with a bunch of games in the future, at least first party ones like starfox and zelda...

and no, it's not uncomfortable at all. the big complaint is that it gives off more noise than vibration. i actually enjoy it. adds a little extra something to the game. i don't think it serves much purpose in something like mario & luigi or magnetica, but it's awesome in metroid prime pinball and metroid prime hunters.

Vibration/rumble has never really done much for me, it's kinda silly IMO. The only game where it ever felt like it contributed to the experience was Rez. Sucks that some company's sitting on top of the patent for force feedback, now THAT was awesome.

Listen you dolt. CLick on the link before you make a comment about it. There are to versions of the rumble pak, the regular, and the lite one, and they are BOTH $9.99, you ignorant, lazy, no clicky on the link but think you know what's going on, overpaying reject.

SOrry to butt in here... but the link to the so-called "Lite Rumble Pack" shows a picture of the normal GBA-cart-sized rumble pack.

Order one. We have one for each of our DS'. One lite, and one original. The lite version fits flush.

Also, thanks for Quoting something I tried to fix in order not to be aggressive.

I saw something like this at my local PC World not too long ago. I think they marked up a Brothers in Arms add-on (I don't quite remember - I don't know this series at all!) with a price of £99. I asked someone about it (it says a lot about a shop when the security guard knows more than anyone else), and apparently they did this because they were giving the add-on away free with the original game, and they wanted to deter people from trying to buy the add-on alone. Something like that, anyway. I thought it was odd, and I hadn't seen anything like this before (or since).

I'll wait for the Lite rumble paks to come to the US A) in white to match my DS Lite and B) if they fixed them. The originals don't rumble so much as make a loud vibration sound. It's terrible. It's supposed to SHAKE! Not SHOUT!

I only found them useful in Super Princess Peach anyway. For telling where an object is hidden. That's it. Other than that it's useless.

NOA currently only carries the normal DS rumble pack. I'm not sure where someone dreamed up NOA stocking the DS lite version, but it has not happened yet.

Give them a call before you act like you know what your talking about, like I just did. LOL

Is there a white version of the DS Lite rumble pak?

Jasoco
07-06-2006, 02:58 AM
That's what I was wondering. No way would I buy one that didn't match my Lite. They go to the trouble of making a slot filler to keep the Lite from looking ugly. So why wouldn't they make the rumble pak match too?

Ok, so does the Lite one fit ok in the original DS?

Also, why is it that when I go to the Nintendo store and type in the search field "rumble," it comes up with 5 different products (3 for the DS, 2 for the DS Lite)?
