what's the best way to clean the dirt off boxes? is there anything you can do without liquid? If not, that's fine.

Thanks for the advice!

Depending on what it is, you can get pretty good results just by brushing it with a soft paint brush.

If the box is printed cardboard with a bit of a glossy finish, you might experiment with a very small amount of rubbing alcohol. Find an inconspicuous place, dab a little alcohol on a cotton swab, and see what effect it has on the ink and the cardboard. I use alcohol with cotton swabs or cotton balls to spot-clean the covers of dirty paperback books, and I usually get good results.

i've used a damp paper towel to good success. generally i'm alright unless i wipe it too long or let the water sink in on the edges...

I've used an artists plastic eraser block (using very light pressure) to remove stubborn dirt and grime from cardboard boxes (glossy and non-glossy) and glossy stickers. Be very careful on the stickers and labels, though - very light pressure and short strokes.
