I was cleaning out my basement and getting my own "room of doom" set up when I came across this little find. In the tub of snes games I have, I found this game. My knowledge on snes games isn't as extensive as on sega games. I looked online for info but could anyone tell me what the difference in gameplay is from the original. Any major differences? Saw the prices on ebay and its ridiculous. I remember buying this at Lamestop a few years ago with the box and manual for under $10. Bought it as a replacement and played it for lil while only to be put back in the box and in the tub. Did blockbuster ever make an official box for this game? I guess you can find things in the wild, even when its dumb luck LOL

Box...? Manual...? I presume you mean the proper retail versions of both, but the Super Weekend cart inside instead here, because as far as I know, it was only sold as the cart on its tod.

This is the cart used for the competition during 1992, it's just a timed version of the game with a slightly different scoring system. And yes, it goes for money on eBay ;)

Am I thinking of the DKC game when I say that there was a weird type of box and instructions with it? Or was it indeed the the SF SW cart?

The DKC game was the one with the box and manual.
The Starfox Super Weekend cart did not come with a box or manual as far as I know. Nintendo Power is where you could order Starfox Super Weekend from, and last I heard there were about 2000 of these.

Here is a scan of the cart for those of you who have never seen one ;)

There was letter or invvoice or anything inside the box?

Don't forget the jacket either...

From what I understand, there were two ways to obtain them.

1. Win the Starfox Super Weekend Competition
-came with the cart, Jacket, and possibly the certificate

2.Order it from Nintendo Power
-came with cart and the certificate

Now you can by them from someone who obtain them these ways, but these were how the public ontained them back then and chances are that it cart only. I have never heard of any box for it. Not to say that someone hasn't made one to match.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing the box and manual it came with was probabaly a retail box and the store employee probably just put it in there. What's even funnier is that the employee said the game was new even though it was being sold as "used". They must have went through the trouble of shrinkwrapping it and everything. The inside had the plastic covering on the catridge to give it the impression of unused. Makes you have second thoughts about purchasing anything that's so called "new" from these stores.

I got mine for free over here, they are even rarer than the US versions

Any difference in gameplay between the USA and PAL version? Does it run slower on the PAL version?

I was the said "Competition Coordinator" for the weekend. I was working at Kay-Bee at the time. The big button is a flasher button, it also says "Ask Me About Starfox." In my case it should have said "I Know Dick About Starfox." LOL I asked the Manager if I could keep the cart, but she wouldn't let me.

I didn't know there was a jacket that went along with this whole ordeal. Any idea on how many of these were given away? I'm just asking because every once in a while, theres a guy that comes into my best buy store and he's wearing a start fox super weekend jacket. Not so much now, but in the winter, I remember the jacket catching my eye every time. Didn't know if the jacket was rare or anything.

I dont know why I missed all this stuff, maybe because I was over seas a little bit when I was young when all this super weekend things happened.

the jackest was far more limited than cart itself, it was a contest prize and came in a Nintendo Power Box with appreciation note from Nintendo(congratulations letter and such), I still have mine brand new in original Nintendo Power box with letter(1993!).
you couldnt order these from Nintendo Power.

On ebay, the jacket comes up about once a year while the cart only about twice a year. Though a lot of carts have surfaced as of recent.

When I was working at Nintendo of America as a lowly temp, during their sale they had 3 or 4 of the Starfox jackets for purchase. Unfortunately they were 80 bucks each and since I had just moved I didn't want to fork out that kind of cash since i was getting paid a piddly $8.60 an hour there (I stayed there all of 3 or 4 weeks).

So I passed on the jackets, and picked up the Starfox Competition cart everyone was ignoring for the grand total of 2 bucks :D

It is so funny to see that there were so many additional items asscoiated with this promotion. Where was I? I vaguely remeber blockbuster doing this but I guess the one near me was to ghetto for that LOL As for the carts popping up recently is that there is more people realizing what they are and snatching them up. Soon used games stores that still sell snes games will eventually figure out and then it'll be tough luck finidng any in the wild.

I just recently got the game myself and I was wondering if there is a save feature in the game to save high scores or not?

I'm starting to write up an article on the Starfox Competition. I already have a Super Weekend cart, and plenty of information for the US competition. However, I'm missing details on the European competition, as well as high quality scans of the carts. I know there were German and English versions, but I have no info on who put on the competition in Europe, what the prizes were, and how the leftover carts were distributed. Any info would be wonderful.

I have the European Starwing Competition cart. Here are scans of the front and back:

Picked it up on eBay a few years back. I really wanted the US version since I participated in the competition back in the day, but this was as close as I could get at the time ;)

Won a T-Shirt and pin but didn't get any further than that. Hope the scans help!

I competed in this competition here in Canada..the previous year the Nintendo truck that had toured featured Super Mario for the SNES (which I went to the finals for) and the Star Fox one was more popular and obviously much bigger..I forget what the prizes were but I'm sure I can dig up some old papers and find out..to shed some light on the jackets, they were just used by the people hired to promote the tour at first (I guess they went on sale afterwards..according to some people's posts on here) and the way I got my jacket was I borrowed one (to wear and walk around with in the city the finals took place in) and kept it lol..

The employees were mad cool and by that time knew me..since I followed the truck to almost all the cities around me (sometimes more than a half hour drive) to make sure I achieved the best score I could get..hard work paid off as this was the last Nintendo Competition (at least directly from Nintendo's own truck) in the 90's (there were smaller ones) on a large scale..good memories for sure..I have the cart and jacket none the less and maybe a hat stuffed in a closet some where..

The apron is a crazy find..never knew such a thing existed..and why lol..it would be cool to come across the people who actually put that event on..wonder what they are doing now..well anyways if anyone has more information post up in here..

I apologize in advance about the picture (picture of picture taken with my digital camera, as I have yet to find my way to a scanner) quality BUT here is a picture of the Star Fox competition that was held in Canada. I am not to familiar with the "Star Fox Weekend" if that is what it was called in the States but in Canada it was the cart itself used for the competition (highest score for province I think it was for certain age groups) in a Nintendo Truck that was so awesome.

Anyways here is a picture they took of all age groups, posing with goodies and you can see the Star Fox shits we got some of the kids are holding the jacket. I still have mine in my closet.

Wow, so much different merchandise involved with the event, all very cool!

I'd like to see someone decked out in the hat, apron, button, jacket, wearing the pin, with cart in hand all at once. :D

I'm not sure how much it's worth, but I had one. Probably still have it at my parents house somewhere, but I wore the shit out of it so it isn't in the best condition as I remember one of the sleeves was coming apart. Also I didn't get the cart with winning the contest (I won at Sears). They said that Nintendo had to have the cart back to recycle with other competition carts.

I don't think that the jacket is as rare as people think. This competition was everywhere (Sears, Kay-Bee, Toys R Us, Venture, Walmart, etc.). There must have been at least 10 contests within a 20 mile radius of me. The event took place at several thousand stores, across the entire country. Every store winner got a flight jacket in the mail. So if there were 2,000-3,000 carts then there were probably about just as many jackets. However, I think that there were more like 5,000-10,000 stores participating. At least it seemed like it.

If there is sufficient information for an article, I could make one. However, at the moment I have a huge backlog of stuff to put up on the site, so it would be on the back burner unless someone else made the article for me. Plus the site is sort of on the backburner at the moment as I have other interests that are occupying my time.

Evan that's all good, I know a few people taking journalism so if you need some people I will let you know through here if they have spare time

Your retro articles on competitions in general are amazing by the way, not many people take the time to pay respect to that era..

Not sure how the Star Fox thing worked in the US but here in Canada it was a truck that toured all over and the highest score was the name of the game

I forget exactly how they picked the winners I'll have to do some research for you if you would like

I believe it was highest score for age group, because my parents were nice enough to drive us to various locations so I could ensure myself the best possible score and sure enough I did lol..
