I've been at it for a while now, nothing to exciting though yet. I'm getting ready to start on all the older titles 2600, 5200, XE, C64 so on.

Are there any specific grails in this series? The rarity guide doesn't go over DOS, Atari st, C64 and such.

and how are the tiger r-zone titles?

I do, or at least did. I bought as many Star Wars games as I could find last year in preparation for my Star Wars-themed OVGE table last year. If I remember correctly there are four for the 2600 and only 1 for the Intellivision, all of which were really easy to find. I haven't checked the tiger games yet.

IF I ever settle on a permanent home I will have to try to dig up an original Star Wars arcade cab. I am sure they are viciously expensive, but if I had to pick one arcade game I wanted, it'd be that. (OK, maybe a Tempest would be nice, too)

I honestly haven't even played that many Star Wars games of recent vintage -- maybe the most recent is Jedi Knights? (jeez, and that's gotta be at least 10 years old). I'd guess most of the games would be pretty easy to collect as they aren't "unknown" during their active lifespan like some other rares. They might be pricey, as they are pretty popular...

I have the X-Wing game for the PC. It's one of the best Star Wars games and is quite hard to find. I got it back around '97 when my mom purchased a computer from a co-worker because our old one was kaput. I'm sure if I knew then what I know now it could have been fixed. :( Now I just have the mothboard to my first computer chilling on a shelf.

If you want I can do some pics and scans of it, maybe send ISOs to people if they want to try the game because you can't even find it on the web, let alone buy it new. It's 4-discs BTW.

I have all the 2600 Star Wars titles because that's a system I collect for indiscriminately. And I made a point of getting all the SW games for the N64, basically to have a collection focus for that system.

The 2600 titles are all actually quite fun to play in spite of the normal "big license = crappy game" syndrome. One of the neighborhood kids who frequently visits my Room of Doom is totally hooked on Jedi Arena. He's pretty good at it, too. LOL

O_O Four discs?! What title are you referring to exactly? X-Wing vs Tie Fighter? That's only two CD's. Something from the Rogue Squadron series perhaps? I don't know of any Star Wars titles involving X-Wings that take four CD's. Please clarify...

You're right about the original releases of X-Wing and Tie Fighter coming out on 4 floppies, but Fluxor said 4 discs, plus he's offering to make ISO's (probably a no-no) which AFAIK refers only to CD-ROM's and not floppies, so I'm just responding to his claim in that context.

For that matter, the game doesn't strike me as that difficult to come by. Both X-Wing and TIE Fighter were re-released in CD-format including their expansion packs. And X-Wing was released a 3rd time around 1998 with enhanced graphics and music. I have this.

Remember: "Floppy disks", "Compact discs".

I guess so... :P Well yeah I still refer to floppies as disks.. and only referred them here as 'floppies' to be clear about it.

But I've probably interchanged "disk" and "disc" freely and intermittently throughout my typing the past couple of years I'm sure LOL

Ah, Star Wars...Sir Alec Guinness would like to remind you never to watch the films again :D

Are there any grails in the series? Aside from arcade cabinets I think maybe the Namco Famicom game could count, and possibly the x68000 game (Star Wars - Attack on the Death Star, by M.N.M. Software), which seems to be a wireframe shooter. From the screenshot in the manual (which shows the same radar seen in the movie), it is not a port of Atari's game, though it looks similar enough.

I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't played a Star Wars game since the Super Nintendo. But lately I've been trying to pick up some of the more recent Star Wars games. Just got myself a copy of Bounty Hunter on the Cube and I'm actively searching for a reasonably priced Xbox version of Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast. LEGO Star Wars seems to be worth picking up as well. I hope to run into a complete Sega CD Star Wars Chess someday too. I'm suprised there doesn't appear to be any Star Wars games on the Genesis.

So far I've managed to gather these...

Flack.. you're missing the Namco Star Wars for the Famicom(?)

It's funny because I bought that game for my Famicom and later on noticed it was different from the later released NES version. This of course were the pre-internet days so I when I went to the states I cruised around to Electronics Boutique and Software Etc. and would describe my Star Wars game to them... they all thought I was a clueless idiot! LOL I'd get snide.. "Nah there is no Star Wars video game like that" and pretty much thought I didn't know what I was talking about. :P

I even wrote to EGM about it (they didn't respond). Anyway, it made me think I had a really rare cart! .. course it turns out it wasn't really the case. Anyway, it was still a time when Japanese and U.S. gaming were worlds apart and somewhat oblivious to the other :)

One thing to know also is maybe the Star Wars handhelds. I got this one and it seems pretty rare (not my pic) :D

Well, my memory may not be too accurate because I haven't pulled that game out and played it since the 90's. I will go hunting for it and pull it out of hiding. The reason I said it is rare is because I have yet to find another of it in the wild or on eBay, in addition when I brought it up with a game store owner he said he hadn't seen that game in many years and is one of the harder to find Star Wars games on the PC.

But once again, I'll go hunting for it tonight and pull it out. And now that I think about it, I may have gotten it confused with Wing Commander, which is quite big.

Wing Commander III was in fact 4 CD's long. I think I had a copy of that once myself but never got around to playing it. I might still have it but I think I gave it to Goodwill. Anyway, I could see where one could mix WCIII up with X-Wing, particularly since Wing Commander III has lengthy FMV segments featuring Mark Hamill LOL

Ok, I see what happened. That list I posted was incomplete because at the time I made a list of all Star Wars games for the systems I would be taking to OVGE (I didn't take my GBA for example, so no GB games appear on the list).

I got the list from "The Emulator Strikes Back", a website which {A} had every Star Wars game listed in a database and {B} is now apparently offline.

Old Links:

http://www.temusb.com/
http://www.echostation.com/esb/index.htm

I may try and use the wayback machine to try and get the complete list from the archives.

The list is there, only updated through 2004. The newer games will need to be added.

Wow! Thanx for the list Flack, that's really cool.

Now, the real queastion, to do a collection, would you just need to own a version of everygame, or every varaint.

ie for star wars arcade would owning the Colecovision copy be enough or would you also have to own the 2600, 5200 , 400/800 copies also?

Yup, I have "The complete X-Wing collection on CD-ROM" according to the text on the left of the front cover. In addition there's 2 auctions on eBay that I see with the game, 1 is complete whereas mine is the case and CD-ROM. Pretty interesting because last I checked I didn't see it anywhere on-line, but that was quite a few years back.
