View Full Version : JIKKYOU POWERFUL PUROYAKU - Is this series any good?
Hi guys,
I'm interested in getting one of these baseball games. I have been for the longest time but it seems nearly impossible to find out if they are any good. I really love baseball and arcade style baseball games. (ex. Baseball Stars 2) From the screenshots I have seen this game looks like it would be perfect for me. From what I can tell they have made about 15-20 of these guys across many platforms over the years.
Basically I'm wondering if anyone can tell me, A) If the games are worth playing based upon what I have said and B) which ones are the best.
I was looking at buying the JIKKYOU PAWERFUL PUROYAKU 95 for the Sega Saturn to start.
Thanks for the info guys. :)

I haven't played that series, but recently I ave been playing Pro Yakyuu Team de Asobou! (http://www.vgrebirth.org/games/game.asp?id=2604&redirect=%2Fgames%2Fsearch%2Easp%3Fkeywords%3Dyaky uu%26page%3D2) for the Dreamcast. It's quite arcadey, easy to jump into, and quite fun to play. Looks really nice, too.
It uses the VMUs on the DC really well -- you choose your pitches and locations on them, and bat location when you swing.
Plus, it should run you under $5. Well, the Powerful Pro Yakyuu series should be about the same price range as well....

I had 95 on Saturn, and currently own S on Saturn. It's alright, but the outfielders move way too slow and it has that horrible "ball bounces 4 times from outfield to infield" crap. I got slaughtered like 17-1 in my 1st try. It seems like it's fun though, if you can get the hang of it. There is some JP text, but with some trial and error you can get through it. Overall though, the series has a bit of a cult following and is worth trying out for $5 or so.

I've only played the N64 versions, but I absolutely loved them. I'd really like to get the Dreamcast version, I'll have to do that one of these days. The main thing with the series is that the gameplay is a bit deeper than it first seems. Certainly deeper than the SD players and overall look of the game would suggest. Everything from batting to running to pitching takes some getting used to, it's not aqs intuitive as it is in Baseball Stars, but ultimately the game is far more varied and interesting because of that.
But Baseball Stars comes out being more fun because you can just zone out on it.
My second favorite baseball game is World Series '98 on the Saturn. That game is very similar to Baseball Stars in terms of depth and ease of play. If you don't have it, you should definitely get it. I've never played the first two World Series games on the Saturn, so I don't know how they compare; I didn't like World Series '95 on the Genesis, nor World Series 2K1 on the Dreamcast.
The Powerful Pro games, come in third on my list, at least the N64 ones, which as I said are the only ones I've played.

i am pretty sure Nolan Ryan baseball on the SNES is a port of one of the Powerful Pro games (if not it is very similar). You should be able to get Nolan Ryan baseball for $1.00 and it should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from the series.
