Taito Legends followed very closely by Pinball Hall of Fame.

2. Super Mario All-Stars SNES

OBJECTION!

Super Mario Allstars + Super Mario World makes more sense :P

I have to say I really didn't like Super Mario All-Stars. The "updated" graphics are pretty lame, and they're not optional. Most collections that offer new graphics don't make it mandatory. I'll stick with the NES carts, thankyouverymuch.

I have to say I'm not crazy about collections in general. For some reason, I generally prefer to get the games individually. Collections are only useful to me when they provide really really nice extras (like Sonic Jam), or arcade games that were never otherwise ported (or ported badly) -- Sonic Gems Collection, for me, is just a glorified port of Sonic the Fighters. :P

1. Midway Arcade Legends 1
2. Taito Legends 2
3. Taito Legends 1 (close run thing that)
4. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
5. Super Mario All-Stars (yes, + Super Mario World)
6. Atari Anthology
7. Activision Anthology
8. Sonic Jam
9. Sega Classics 5 in 1
10. Depths of Doom Trilogy

I like my anthologies, I like having original carts and all but being able to slip between games on your PS2 is infinitely satisfying. :-) That said though, I too have a dislike for updated graphics- the whole point of anthologies is to have it playable as it was originally, which is why Sega Classic collection is usurped in favour of the Mega CD game. That said though, Retro Atari Classics for DS would be in 11th- the updated versions being purely optional (though perversely I find myself playing them more often :-/)

Gotta say the Genesis 6-Pak is one of the best around.

You get Streets of Rage and Golden Axe for beat-em-ups.
Super Hang-On for racing.
Revenge of Shinobi and Sonic The Hedgehog for side-scrolling adventures.
Columns for mind/reflex puzzle fun.
All great games, covering a variety of styles leaves at least a little for almost everyone.
Plus all at a low price (or even as a pack-in there for a while if I'm not mistaken)

I wanta said the SmashPack on the DC, because it had a better selection of games, but my god, what were they thinking allowing such awful, awful, AWFUL sound emulation??? I mean anyone who hadn't played these originally on the Genesis wouldn't think much of the Genny as a system... plus putting PSII on there without some kind of mapbook like the Genny version came with or, hell, even a manual so you would know what all the Techniques are for certainly makes the game harder than it should be!

My favorites by system:

SNES: Super Mario All-Stars
Genesis: Genesis 6-Pak
PlayStation: Buster Bros. Collection
PS2: Taito Legends. I also like Capcom Classics Collection, Activision Anthology, and all three Midway Arcade Treasures titles.
Gamecube: The Legend Of Zelda Collector's Edition. This and Sonic Mega Collection were two of the first games I bought when I bought my Gamecube.
GBA: Namco Museum. Dig Dug and Galaga are great pick up and play games when I only have a short amount of time to play something (like if I'm on a short trip on the bus or something). I also like Konami Collector's Series: Arcade Advanced.

Mega Man X Collection is excellent. I loved playing Mega Man X when I was in elementary school. I never got to play X2 or X3, and I finally got to. Awesome collection.

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is another favorite of mine. Street Fighter Alpha 3 is such a great fighting game. Getting a chance to play Street Fighter Alpha 2 outside an arcade was great.

Final Fantasy: Chronoicles definetly deserves mention. I never played Chrono Trigger until this game came out. I played Chrono Cross first. Also, Final Fantasy IV is an excellent RPG also.

Ah, compilations. I love 'em. My absolute favorites are:

-Mega Man X Collection
-Mega Man Anniversary Collection
-Capcom Classics Collection
-Activision Anthology
-Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
-Super Mario All-Stars
-Sonic Mega Collection Plus

I also like these but not sure if I'd put them on my "favorites" list:

-Sonic Gems Collection: This was worth it alone for Sonic CD and Sonic R but Sonic The Fighters has grown on me, and i was also fond of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Triple Trouble on Game Gear. You also get both Vectorman games and some really sweet unlockable art galleries and music. Sonic Boom DnB Mix is too good.
-Taito Legends: Would you believe I NEVER played Bubble Bobble until I bought this game?
-Atari Anthology: With over 65 games on here, this is the largest compilation to date!

We just started this topic back in May.

I did a simple search for "favorite compilation" and immediately turned up this thread:

Lets post there. Thanks.
