I tried searching for this topic because I'm sure its came up before, but no luck. So please excuse me if this has in fact been discussed before.

I heard how the GameGenie is incompatible with the top loader NES because the GG's board is slightly longer and will not fit correctly. But check out this pic:

I got mine in there kind of sideways and it works great. Does anyone thing this will hurt the toploader in the long run if I just leave the GG in there? The NES works even better through the GG being in there (obviously the GG isn't nearly worn out like my top loader and toasters), so I don't mind pressing start to bypass the code screen everytime. I just want to make sure that I'm not hurting my top loader.

Also can you "shave" off some of the GG's board so that it will fit? Anyone have any success. I know there's that convertor they made but its a little to pricey for my blood.

Leaving it in there sideways like that will, for one, increase the chances that a stray bump will cause it to slip enough to bridge contacts together. Two, don't leave carts in your systems, as that can fatigue the connectors over the long term (I suspect that's the reason why my Game Gear became even more finicky than it already was). I know, it doesn't seem like much, but over a course of several years, it could become significant.

Really? I leave carts in my GEN and SNES all the time. Is this true for these systems as well? I have yet to encounter any problems.... but would like to know from longer-time gamers.

I know I used to leave my Saturn CDs in my Saturn from 2001-2005. It just felt like a "waste" opening the drive door to remove the game when I know I'm playing it again later that night. In essence, I was trying to conserve the "open" button.

CDs are no problem (I've got one in my PS1 right now), but carts, since there is pressure being applied to make sure of the connection, means that, like any spring, eventually the connector port will wear itself out. I'm not sure of the timetable, though.
