Hey everyone, this is probably a simple question to answer, but I thought I'd play it safe and ask here first.
Anyways, I recently picked up an SCPH-7501 PS1, all nice and boxed up. I figured it was complete, but found out once I got home that it had everything except the power cord :/
Now my question is, instead of going out to pick up a new cord, could I possibly use a Dreamcast power cord? I don't know much about either systems internal power supply, but would doing this make the cord become a possible fire hazard?

I honestly have no idea, but the cord on the Playstation, while not a computer power cord, strikes me as being a fairly standard bit of hardware. And it is, literally, just a cord. There's no hardware in the middle of it performing a conversion, all that is in the Playstation itself.
If the Dreamcast uses that same standard, no hardware power cord, then you should be set.

Yep, it will work. Using any power cord, as long as the tips are the same, will work with your console. Believe me, I've mixed up my Saturn, DC, PSX, god-knows-what cords so many times, I don't know what is what. :P

Thanks for the responses. I'm not to tehchnically savy so I was just playing it safe with this question.
Both systems use the same shape plug port (the GCN, PS2, and some other disc based systems use it as well) so I figured it would work. I just wasn't sure if there was a certain voltage the power cord could handle. I've heard nightmare stories about weak insulated cords having the circuit jump and cause a fire.
EDIT: Nevermind what I just said, my common sense is back. The curent goes from the wall to the system, and most wall sockets in North America output a standard 110-120v of elextricity, so I don't see any technical problems resulting from using the DC cord.

it's a generic power cord, even the XB uses it (although the shape of one end is a little different)
I have both my PS2 and DC hooked up, but rather than having 2 seperate power cords, I just swap it.
the cord just creates a link from wall outlet (source A) to device (Source B)

Just a quick note here, Gamecube does NOT use the same power cable as the other systems. DO NOT try to use that cable in your GC or you'll start a fire.

Well of course. After all, the GCN needs an external power brick to run.
