Have you actually ever been to a video game auction? Are there really places that hold these? How do you find out about these when you go to them?

I did not even know there was such auctions, so I have never been to one. Even if I knew of them, I doubt they would hold one near South Mississippi lol

Shuffled to the Arcade Alley.

I and lots of the people who hang out at this forum attend arcade auctions on a fairly regular basis. I don't know how many I've gone to, maybe 30 or so, and each one is always slightly different and exciting.

Yes.

How do you find out about these when you go to them?
Websites such as this one, local classified ads, and of course the SuperAuction schedule.

I've been to two SuperAuctions auctions in Cherry Hill, NJ, but they didn't have one this year and they have none scheduled for the rest of the year, so, if anyone knows of an auction that is going to be close to me (Drums, PA 18222) let me know.....

I'm not just referring to arcade auctions. I mean like PS1, Atari, video game auctions.

Whoops! Thanks for the clarification! I will move it back to Classic Gaming. You might edit your original post and clarify that a little.

Never been to a video game auction, but when the arcade in State College went out of business back in oh... late 2003, I think it was, they auctioned off everything in the place, machines, tables, chairs, registers, etc. It was pretty crazy watching them sell off everything piece by piece. I remember us keeping track and I'm pretty sure the total bids went well over six figures that day.

I personally bought a sweet desk for $5 (cheapest thing of the day, I think LOL ) while my friend bought the Virtual On machine that he'd been dumping quarters into for the past year or two (about $600).

And FWIW, I never knew that pinball machines go for MAD cash until that day. Probably were the most expensive things there.

I went to the CGE auction in 04 and had a hoot. It was alot of fun, not to mention seeing some big time stuff come up and a good chunk of money getting tossed about for it.

Indeed. They were the highlight items at every auction I've ever been to. Bidding can usually get really tense on them, too. At my last auction, I literally nearly choked out a guy who bid three different pins out from under me. Nothing hurts worse than being at your personal limit on a game, hearing "Going once, going twice,.." then having some clown jump in with another bid. I hate auctions :P

they hold an arcade auction near me every few months. can find some nice cabs. Word of advise though, make sure you try before you by. some of these cabs can be had a cheap prices, sometimes it's a steal, but sometimes the cab is toast and you just bought a heavy piece of trash. the one near me usually has free pay of the cabs before the auction, an it's fun to go see what pops up.

as for like ps1, or console game auctions, never heard of one, besides the one a CGE. would be interesting to see if they could support a more regular event.

Seconded. On the same day that I picked up my Neo Geo cabinet for $125, I saw a KISS pinball machine go for $600. The machine's parts came in three cardboard boxes. At the last auction I went to I saw an Evel Kenevil pinball go for $1000 before it ever hit the auction floor -- the guy couldn't unload it out of his truck fast enough.
