I'm looking to purchase either a neo geo AES or consolized MVS in the near future. In the meantime while i'm saving up cash and looking around i'd like to play whatever snk games i can on the systems i have. Can you guys recommend some of the better snk games on other systems and maybe mention some i should stay away from? Recommend whatever you like but keep in mind i have most of the major consoles besides the saturn.

Ok you are going to want to start off with the Dreamcast first. Most of the games on the system are fighters, but since the DC can run true low resolution with no sprite flicker thes eare some great ports.
Dreamcast:
King of Fighters Dreammatch 99 (really KOF 98)
King of Fighters Evolution (really KOF 99)
King of Fighters 2000
King of Fighters 2001
King of Fighters 2002
The Last Blade 2
Garou Mark of the Wolves
Twinkle Star Sprites (JP only, rather pricey)
And now for some technical information. KOF 00/01 and KOF 02 were released on the PS2. However SNK made changes and alterations to the games. Swapping out sprite avatars near the health bars for "artwork" instead. It just looks plain awkward. They also made some other tweaks to the menus and backgrounds. If you want accurate AES/MVS versions of these games, then get the Dreamcast versions.
I should note that DreamMatch 99 and Evolution on the DC have specially made 3D backgrounds instead of sprite based backgrounds. However, these backgrounds look very very good. So it makes the DC versions of these 2 titles special in that regard.
If you want to get an all sprite based conversion of KOF Evolution, then pick up the PS1 release for super cheap. You should be able to get it for 2-8 dollars. The port is EXCELLENT.
Next up... some 16-bit port recommendations:
GENESIS:
Samurai Shodown
Fatal Fury 2
View Point
Do not buy Fatal Fury 2 for the SNES, it is bad news. Also, while Samurai Shodown is competant for the SNES, it doesn't compare to the Genesis version which has massive sprites almost as big as the AES version, along with animated backgrounds and great colors. The SegaCD version might be better, however I havn't played it yet.
Fatal Fury 2 on the Genesis is very solid. A decent port of the game. (You might want to check out Fatal Fury Special on Sega CD as well.)
View Point on the genesis is a suprising game. It plays great, and is very faithfull to the original. Highly recommended if you are looking for a Neo port that isn't a fighting game.
There are a lot of other ports out there for various platforms, but I chose to focus on the recommendations I knew the most about. I hope this helps.

That whole "besides the Saturn" clause in your post is kind of a bad thing, because SNK shined on Saturn. But, all of SNK's Dreamcast ports were terrific. Unfortunately, many SNK games that were supposed to come out for DC never materialized, like Matrimelee, Metal Slug 3, and so on. They also made a DC-exclusive game, Cool Cool Toon, which is a music game.
The only SNK ports I'd recommend you stay far away from are most of the SNES ones, and all but the latest of the Playstation ones (Metal Slug X is excellent on psx). The quality of their Genesis ports was mixed, but more good than bad. The 3DO port of Samurai Shodown was really good.

I disagree, I found it to be a tremendous port and I loved it back in the day. So did EGM who gave FF2 the Game of the Month honors. I haven't played the GEN port but I hear it's solid too, both can be had for around $5 or less. Depends which system (controller) you prefer I guess.
World Heroes 2 on SNES is great as is World Heroes Perfect on Saturn (JP import only).
Last Blade 2 For DC is a Great game the sdms' are too easy to do however, making an nearly dead Hibiki leathal, other then that its a good port.
Oh and I have it for sale in the buy sell forum :D
SNK games have been ported to almost every system. If its fighting games your looking for the DC is your best bet.

I didn't like it very much there were too many load times. You maybe different but load times, in between rounds, in KOF really drag it down.

Sadly, that kills pretty much every cd release of every SNK game regardless of platform for me (NeoCD/SegaCD/3D0/PS1/whatever). KoF95 on Saturn was a nice exception, but I'd still take the cart version over it anyday.
The sound quality in the PS1 version of KoF99 was crummy, too :(
Fatal Fury 2/Special and World Heroes 2 on SNES were a lot of fun (the character designs in WH2 were comically uninspired and the deathmatches were AWESOME) and the SNES Samurai Shodown isn't actually that bad. The smaller sprites work out fine and look quite a bit better than the Genesis' version. Plus, if you're an Earthquake player, you don't really have a choice :)

Is a list of ports that is a little outdated now...
I've since got an MVS setup, but I guess I'd recommend Dreamcast and import PS2...
Cheers,

I disagree with the original quote, too. Fatal Fury II was pretty fun on Super NES.

I just rechecked, and I goofed. Fatal Fury 1 on SNES is the one with a lot of problems.

Now THAT game is a turd on Super NES. Even a friend of mine who isn't a gamer said the game sucked when him and I played it together many years ago as a rental. It wasn't that good on the Genesis either, but it was at least somewhat playable :D I'd sooner play Power Moves/Deadly Moves (talk about a really generic fighter) before Fatal Fury on Genesis or Super NES.
