I know that most people are the opposite but I still prefer a fantasy setting to a sci-fi one. My vote is for Warcraft.

I voted Warcraft, mainly because I have never played Starcraft.

I say this all the time:

"If Starcraft was so good, then how come there was never a sequel? Huh? HUH!"

I also never played Starcraft, was that ever ported to anything else other than the PC?

Starcraft was also on the N64.

Starcraft is god. Blizzard needs to get off their WoW lovin' ass and get to SC2.

I voted Warcraft for sure. I love and always have loved every Warcraft game. I too, prefer a Fantasy setting over a Sci-Fi setting anyday.
As for WoW, why get off of it? They're still making a ridiculous profit off ot it. Plus, it was Game of the Year in 2004 and it has yet to be beat out by any other MMORPG. Not to mention they have an expansion coming out sometime soon which everyone will love.
I may sound like a WoW fanboy, but I speak facts...besides WoW has done nothing but give me reasons to be a fanboy.

Had to vote Starcraft. Haven't played Warcraft III yet, though.

None of this is relevant. I know they're making mad cash over it, it's the most popular MMO ect, I'm just annoyed they've yet to make a SC2. With that game being so huge, I know they're focusing everything they have onto it, and that means it'll only be longer until the inevitable SC2.

It may not be relevant to this topic, but it is completely relevant to what you said. You complain that Blizzard needs to get off their "WoW lovin' ass", and I simply state why they won't. Either way, atleast you know why SC2 has not been released.

You know... it really is hard to better something that is already at the peak of its genre.

Besides, why would Blizzard want to call time on a game that is still doing the business for them?

StarCraft is still the greatest RTS of all time, if you ask me. And I've played pretty much everything out there (except for the most recent stuff, which I haven't taken a fancy to).

Neither for me, but that's just because RTS aren't my cup of tea. I really suck at anything strategic, in fact, I gave my Starcraft Battle Chest to my best friend.

So, if I could vote for anything Blizzard, I'd say Diablo II. :P

Hack n slash is where it's at for me, what can I say... ;)

And regardless of my personal dislike of RTS games, huge kudos to Blizzard for such a long-term support of their titles... Now, if only they would release an OSX installer for the first Diablo game...

Absolutely! Blizzard deserve a heck of a lot of love and respect for the way they have supported their games over the years. Blizzard, along with Epic (and possibly Valve), really are the best in the business at that.

And by support, I mean more than just regular patching. I mean free content, technical support, competitions, etc.

Starcraft is probably still the ultimate RTS in terms of balance.

But Warcraft spawned WoW so my vote has to go there. Fair? No. But that's the way the /roll goes.

Warcraft III < Warcraft II > Warcraft I
Starcraft > Warcraft II

I began playing Warcraft back in '95 and progressed into Warcraft II and the Dark Portal in '96. I got introduced to Starcraft in '97 but didn't own it and Broodwars until '98. Playing Warcraft III at a friends house when it was released and later borrowing it wasn't as satisfying as going from Warcraft I to II. The largest let down was the lack of keeping boats, there was so much potential there. Then there was the 3D graphics, it just didn't appeal to me much to be so cartoonish. As for Starcraft, it picked up what Warcraft III didn't, lots of unique units that were colorful sprites and did so much with the Used Map Settings option.

I basically was the typical Starcraft gamer in highschool, raking a record on B.net of nearly 2k wins and under 100 losses. In my technology classes, it would be 4-7 other students versus me and I'd stomp them all regardless of the map. It was so bad for them that they decided to ban me from their games, but that didn't stop me from using other nicknames on the network and by the time they knew it was me it was too late into the game. Even to this day when I host LAN parties no one wants to do All vs me matches. Now when it came to B.net, I by far am not the best player online, but in my local area I was pretty damn good against the rest regardless of which race I chose (I was always random ;) ). So I guess you can say I'm a bit bias but Warcraft II is almost as kick ass to me as Starcraft.

Now, the game that changed everything was when in '02 I stumbed across an old PC game at EB games sitting on the shelf that was marked $3 and had everything intact/complete. It was around this time when I was open to finding a new RTS game to get into (Tried all the Age of Empire games and it wasn't until later that I got Cossacks :D ) so what the hell, why not. After playing it just one time I was hooked and found it supreme to Starcraft, Age of Empire, and all other RTS games I'd played (The Perfect General, Battle Realms, War INC., Cyberstorm, Command & Conquer, Dune, ect.) and it was called Total Annihilation. My god that game was just so awesome with the tons and tons of units, real physics, multiple game options, long gameplay that doesn't get tiresome, and the freaking nukes and Big Berthas! I also ended up getting Kingdoms later, which wasn't as great but was still fun and worth a few go arounds at LAN parties and still get played to this day. :)

But one major RTS I still need to try is Scorched Earth... :(

Oh ya, and I got my full reserve for Supreme Commander! It should be comming out Spring '07, but we'll see. So actually, I'll go ahead and change my Avatar and Sig for the upcomming release. :D

No, it is AWFUL!

The PC version is at least 40 times better than the n64 one.[/i]

While I agree that StarCraft is better on the PC by a mile, the N64 version isn't awful by any means. At the time, it was a pretty decent stab! The control scheme, for one, was pretty well done.

But the whole thing was a little blurry, and the splitscreen multiplayer was pretty pointless (as it is on any RTS). Blizzard should absolutely have another go at an RTS on a console... I'm thinking StarCraft on Live might be a laugh.
