Was looking into buying a brand new Hard drive with Final Fantasy 11 included. They had 2 for the price of $40 each and was thinking of this is a good price. Anyone know what the typical price is?

I see them running about $30 to $50 around here, so Id say that $40 is a decent price.

Was gonna buy 1 for myself just to use as a big memory card and hopefully it'll help loading times. Is it worth it to buy the other one to hold onto to sell on ebay or is the market for this nonexistent or dead?

I'd say nonexistant and/or dead.
There are a lot of them around these parts, still for close to $90...

People would pay $90 for them??? Buying them because I still have old PS2 and can still connect it. Only reason to buy the extra one would be to hold it and sell it as a collectors item. But if it wont work with the new PS2's then its market is really dead.

That is the correct answer.

I think $40 would be about the max I would be willing to pay for one, brand new. I do eventually want to get it being the FF and RPG collector that I am, but I doubt it would ever leave the box.

Is FFXI for the ps2 still active?
I've never seen them around here used - only the bundle packs with a ps2.

And I don't think you can use the hard drive as a big memory card. If you can I'd appreciate someone speaking up about how to do so, cause I'm unaware of a way to get this functionality.

You can't save directly to the hard drive, but you can transfer saves from a memory card to the hard drive.

My local TRU has a bunch and they are still at 90 as well. Since the PS2Slimline came out these have become totally obesolete. Not that there's not a few dozen million regular PS2 units that can use them. Just officially they wern't supported but for a few games, unless you want to go the HDLoader route there really isn't a reason to get one, unless your really itchin to play FF XI.

TRU cut them to $70 a while ago and to $40 this week nationwide, so if the TRU by you still has them ticketed $90 it was missed during a few rounds of markdowns.

I asked the R-Zone guy a few weeks ago about them and he said he was still surprised that they were at 90. I'm sure i'll be by there sooner or later and ask them to see if I can pick up an extra cheap one for shits and giggles.

We (meaning Betty) got one yesterday at TRU for $40, I'd give them a look. or you could shoot me the $ and I'll get you one if you want, I'm pretty sure they had a few more left

I bought one as well for forty. The sticker said more but it scanned for 39.99.

Over this past weekend, mty sister had her boyfriend's family over.
His brother was very impressed with my game room, especially by the FFXI HDD bundle. He works in a game store somewhere near Lexington, KY, but had never seen one before. :hmm:
Or the PC version, for that matter. :hmm: :hmm:
Struck me as odd, it did.

Sometimes were lucky in the major makrets because they drop everything on us first and often. Then they wonder why certain games or systems just fall through the cracks, its overload LOL Then you feel bad for other places that are lucky to just get a few items in. I guess they didn't offer send many units to the midwest. Guess they felt they haven't modernized yet with with cable or dsl. Who says retailers are not stereotyping LOL

Yeah, your TRU is mad lazy and missing the markdowns. They're $39.98 to be exact at my TRU. And we still have 5 and none of them has moved. A mother almost got one for her kid but my co-worker was warning her about the long-term effects of MMORPGs and so she either changed her mind or is waiting on it. LOL.

I got one at the local thrift, new, just some damage to the box, for $40 a year ago (maybe a bit longer, actually).

Kmart clearanced them for $10 last I checked. I'd have bought our last one if it weren't the one someone returned about two years ago as "new".
I'm sad I missed out on that one. Someone sold the mint condition one I had stored in the back room. :/
