Valve today announced that HL2 and all baack content for
it eg CS:S are coming to both platforms!
I can honestly say that I think this maybe a huge plus for
the PS3 if it supports mouse and keyboard it could be a huge,
huge plus for there online market @_@
as it may entice
casual Pc gamers that have low end PC's

That is GREAT news for me, I am a very casual PC user(mainly just to browse the net and listen to CD's). And I missed the original Xbox version.
So I have never played Half-Life 2, but I can't wait to play it on the 360!

im sorry to sound negative here but to the above poster:
They stated that ALL Hl2 back content was to go with the console
versions, No it wasnt 100% confirmed but it is part of the HL2
back catalog, why with the negative comments? do you have
something constructive to add or not?
:/
In theory why would it not ship CS is still one of the worlds
most popular games I see it as a no brainer to include it.

No way in hell will this get a Wii port. It really just cant be done on the system. Not in a bad way or anything, I just dont see it. And the XBox version was so weak compaired to the PC version, I'm sure it'll be excellent. Although, I'm a little annoyed because porting them will just take up time that they could be creating more PC content.

According the IGN:
While Newell didn't announce every bit of what will be on the disc, the PS3 and X360 versions of Half-Life 2 will include adjunct titles like Half-Life 2: Episode One and the just-reconfirmed Team Fortress 2. Counter-Strike: Source is also a possibility.
Whether that sticks or not remains to be seen. I'm very excited about this and was waiting for such an annoucement for a while. Good thing I didn't open up that Xbox copy I have laying around.

Like zomg this is great news!!!
...wait a second, HL2 has been out on PCs for the better part of two years...and can run on any semi-respectable PC from that time frame.
And why is everyone getting excited? HL2 for PC is $35 with HL1: Source, and the addon is $16. That makes it $51. The versions released on consoles will probably be $60, not include HL: Source, and not be compatible with any of the mods. And the game will be two years old by that point.
In other news, MS is going to launch Halo 2 along with Vista...

You do make a good point here, unwind. The Source engine really does scale brilliantly, so much so that anyone with just a modicum of interest will no doubt have already played this. I'd imagine any semi-gamer's PC could do this game, and engine, justice.
And why is everyone getting excited? HL2 for PC is $35 with HL1: Source, and the addon is $16. That makes it $51. The versions released on consoles will probably be $60, not include HL: Source, and not be compatible with any of the mods.
Hell, even if the 360 or PS3 package retails for, like, $100... considering the sheer wealth of content (not to mention it'll all be up-to-date, so you can jump straight in), then I think it represents good value for money.
Yes, it is, and will be, cheaper on the PC - but I've always thought they could charge a little more, and I'd certainly be willing to pay more if I had to. A damn fine game is worth paying out on, don't you think?
Half-Life 2, Episode 1 (I think), Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and possibly CS: Source and Half-Life: Source... all on one disc... I'm pretty much there!
As for your comment about MODs... well, I don't really think there is anything out there at the moment. I don't think you'd miss much. The Source community really hasn't taken off yet, like it did with the original. Shame.
And the game will be two years old by that point.
Does this matter? For me, the gameplay and the graphics (particularly Episode 1) still stand up to anything else out there.
And when you consider (at least on the 360), Live for multiplayer, downloadable content (as long as we're not charged), achievements, then it really is a very compelling package!
I'm not saying I'll buy this, as I already have the PC version (and I do prefer a mouse and keyboard), but I can easily see why some people are excited by this.
Plus, you won't have to install Steam!

there is already a thread on halo 2 pleas post there :P
Drunk Bill why are you so dam negative all the time?, your panties
in a knot?>
Half Life 2 is an exciting peice of news as even though the game
may be 2 years old the source engine is recieving upgrades
all the time, do you see any half decent pc form 2 years ago
running lost coast even anywhere near respectable?
That and the fact the while it may be 2 years old it is yet
to be bettered.
HL2 is going to be pretty damn interesting on many fronts
as while xbox live has the Digital Distribution down packed
my source folder at the moment weighs in at a hefty 18.1gb,
granted it should be around 15Gb witht he non valve games in there
but the thing is Storage space, I mean a DVD cant hold that much
nor can the X360 hard drive, does this mean that MS will
bring out much larger capacity drives? Also I think if Sony
do the right things, which im sure they wont, they could captilize on
greater storage space and possibly a modding community
or at least a compaitbility mulitplayer wise with PC gamers.
Lots of interesting times ahead.

DoD: Source is the game to play right now. I seriously can't think of anything that's better right now in regards to FPS's.
And they just added objective mode, which is spiffy as hell.
And anyways, I think the commotion in this thread is more directed towards TF2 coming out, not HL2 being ported.

More or less, I was satirizing this board's reaction. Everyone jizzes their pants when Half Life 2 is announced for PS3/Xbox 360, and when Halo 2 is announced for Vista, everyone scoffs. They're essentially the same situation, yet people are acting like HL2 is something uber new or just released.
Sure, it's good for the three people who can't afford a PC that can run it, but for the same price as a 360 or PS3, you can get a PC that can run the game at 40 FPS with almost all the settings jacked.
There are some pretty cool mods for HL2, though admitedly, I've yet to try them. There's some neat stuff they do with the physics -- it's quite entertaining looking, if I do say so. But no, the breadth of mods has not reached the point of the original HL, probably because Source is way more complex than the original engine was.

Prehaps you need to learn that those are both creditable news sites (yes i know IGN is IGNorrant) and were cited as a source by the original poster. Not only did you fail to cite a source but your claim runs counter to everything the mainstream gaming press was reporting.
If you, a poster with little reputation on the board, wish to post a claim counter to most news sources it's best you cite your source so that your claim has credibility.
It's also worth noting that there does not appear to be a retraction retraction to the claim that TF2 is coming to consoles on Gamespots site.
That makes the score 1-1

Wow yeah people need to understand that. Does anyone have experience with valve or steam? Or is everyone a console only junkie who knows nothing about how computer game developers go about it? Maybe it will come to console but deffinately not first. I am done posting on this topic. Believe what you want to believe but in 6 months or so, as news develops, you will remember this topic and you'll feel pretty dumb. Has Gamespot or IGN messed up on thier news? Yes. Has valve ever released a title on console before it hit PC? No. Will valve ever? No. Sorry for being an ass about it. All I stated was that it was coming out for PC only and people just attacked me.

Namely because it's HL2 + EP 1 + EP 2 + TF2 + this portal game they've concocted. Hahah current gen storage space. We're all throughing that word around far, far to often. The 20 GB HDD is hardly something from the past. Twice the size of the old HDD and the standard size of the shitty PS3 bundle.
My hopes are that if you have HL2 for the 360 It will only download the extra textures and maps and that way save you some sace of pre-existing content.
However in the end you're right, for episodic games 20 GB is not nearly enough. I expect a 60 GB or 80 GB drive down the line. Most likely they will then phase out the 20GB sort of like the GC-59 memory card.

A week ago I would have passed this thread by. I had never played Half-Life ever. Then the other day the one copy of Xbox HL2 dropped in price to $16. And since the main character's face on the cover bares a striking resemblance to my handsome self, I decided to check out some online reviews and finally see what all the hub-bub was all about. I was pretty sure it wouldn't even touch Doom 3 in my book....
Until I played it. OMG, move over Doom 3, HL2 kicks your ass!
I'm still amazed, and when I saw that there were two more episodes I haven't seen yet (One of course not out yet) and that they were going to be on the 360, I got really happy.
The day this 360 port comes out, I will buy a 360. My brtother just bought one to play Final Fantasy XI. I will buy one just to play this. Can't wait!

I picked up HL Source, HL2, CounterStrike Source and EP 1 for $51. EP 2 will cost $20, and come with Portal and TF2. I'm at $71, which includes the original game, fully moddable. The 360 version would cost me $64 brand new, doesn't come with the original game, is a ways off down the line, and might not include Portal or TF2 (it all seems up in the air at this point).
So really, as I see it, this is just a rehash of 2 year old content. Like Halo 2 on Vista. It's nothing new; I don't understand why people are so excited.

Actaully it's confirmed it will have TF2 and Portal will be in HL2 for the 360. But twith consoles gamers who don't have a high end pc can enjoy all the graphics at their finest and XBOX Live + TF2 can not possibly be a bad thing.

As far as I know, Valve has no plans of purchasing EA.

Episode 2 has officially been delayed until the early part of next year. Eurogamer are suggesting February as the target release date, but it is probably too early to say. So, I'm afraid to say, but we won't be seeing any Source-powered goodies on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 going into the holidays...
Gutted.
