In light of my XWA topic, figured make a new one see if anyone has advice or posting links to, way to make your older LA titles like Tie Fighter, XWA, etc, work on XP.

For starters:
Playing XWA on XP (http://www.xwaupgrade.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=000610)

X-Wing/Tie fighter 95 compatibility fix (http://www.lucasfiles.com/index.php?s=11310ffbd1cfd83be5adab11d72974b8&action=download&id=653&PHPSESSID=11310ffbd1cfd83be5adab11d72974b8)

It's actually possible to get Dark Forces running in WinXP by swapping out dos4gw.exe with dos32a.exe (http://narechk.net/) and using VDMSound for the audio.... but DOSbox is generally still a better solution.

also, SCUMMVM is the cat's pajamas for Lucasarts adventures, with the exception of Grim Fandango...which works fine in WinXP for some and requires a bit of ninjary for others. There's always Residual (an engine clone similar to SCUMMVM, bur for the Grime engine)...but that needs a good bit of work still (I believe it shits the bed on Year 2). Still, it's nice to be able to play any of it on a Mac (http://sreindl.net/grimx/GrimX.html).

SCUMMVM is the best emulator ever. Nothing like being able to run Secret of Monkey Island perfectly on a modern machine.

If you're playing the CD version, make sure you properly mount the CD-ROM within DOSbox.

I wish it was that simple, but I have the 3.5 discs.

It should still be that simple :) Just mount your A: drive (I think newer builds might automatically do so, but it never hurts to add it to your dosbox.conf file), mount a C: drive (I like using my E:\emu\dos folder as my emulated C drive), and install that sucker.

I don't remember the error message it throws up but it doesn't instal. the discs show files but I think they may be corrupt.

and just for the record I know how to use DOSBOX :D

Now Grim Fandango will work on XP? I'd love to finally play that, and maybe finally finish Sam & Max.

Another q: anyone ever get Episode 1 Racer working on XP using the secret files from Lucasarts?
