I'm in the mood to play a PS2 RPG or action RPG, but I want something with a darkish techno/cyberpunk feel to it.
I know the system has a ton of RPG's, and I'm pretty unfamiliar with all of them, so I'm kinda in the dark as to what any of them are actually like in terms of story or mood, and I'm wondering if any of them fit the above description.

Hmmm. The only ones a that come to mind are Steambot Chronicles and Star Ocean 3.

Shadow hearts, shadow hearts 2, Disgaea, Makai Kingdom. I'm glad someone mentioned Nocturne. In my opinion, its the best RPG on ps2. Hard to come by lately too.

Final Fantasy X-2 and Tales of Legendia both have techno elements to them.

out of all the rpgs mentioned, the only "Darkish techno/cyberpunk" ones would be Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga.
Some of you guys are confusing steampunk (which steambot is) and cyberpunk.
Star Ocean 3 isn't dark or cyberpunk. Most of the game is on a magical castle old english planet. The rest of the game is in super hi-tech areas.
and as for Shadow Hearts/Disgaea/Makai: uhhhhh no.
Though it's not an RPG, Galerians: Ash is a dark techno game. It's kinda like an action resident evil. You can find it really cheap now too.
Nocturne hands down, it has very unique atmosphere and can be very time consuming. I had a hell of a time trying to find the strategy guide, I went to just about every EB/GS in my area and found one out of pure luck for $10. The game isn't that easy to find as well and is still at a hefty price.

Im not exactly sure what cyber-punk or whatever is. But unfortunaly, many games like Nocturne don't get released here , so thats porbably why you are having a hard time finding them. Oh btw, I'd recommend Nocturne over digital devil saga. I know how you feel though, its nice to get away from all the super happy, everythings all right, sun shining, cookie cutter RPGs. Unfortunaly, I can't recommend any Action RPGs up the dark alley. Good luck though.

Here is another vote for Galerians: ASH. I got it a little bit ago for like 8$. Great deal. Also Chaos Legion is rather dark and gothic, although there really isnt much technology. This too can be had for less than 15$. Both are good fun and I think they are worth every penny.
Persona 3 is coming out in the near future, which is also apart of the Megami Tensei series. Theres also rumor of a Persona re-make for the PSP.

... I can't think of any Cyber Punk RPGs for the PS2. Dark is one thing but there's no Blade Runners or Shadowruns on the Ps2.

I think you need to go back to the old days and check out some titles. I think you may like shadowrun for the genesis, snes, and mega cd. It isn't exactly a rpg but it seems most rpg fans take a liking to it. I believe the games is about to be remade for ps2 here soon so you want to keep a eye open.

I'm trying to track down Noctourne and DDS right now but it's proving quite difficult. I mayt have to go the ebay route for both.
I also check out Galerians: Ash Looks like I can get it off eb's website for $7, not too bad.
I'm also excited about the upcomming Persona, and I hadn't heard about the Shadowrun remake. I'll have to check that out as well, I'm interested to see how it will play as an FPS.

Persona 3 is pretty cool looking from the little i saw played of the JPN version. Plus Atlus said it's not gonna be censored! Awesome.

The whole "suicide" thing is bound to cause some kind of ruckus tho, then again the game could get overlooked like Killer 7 did.

It's not being "remade" at all. Same license, but an entirely new game, and as you said it's an FPS. Stupid sucky FPS. *grumbles*
Also not sure why greedostick said the 16bit Shadowruns weren't RPGs when they were.

If you have a Sega CD, you can try Snatcher and Rise of The Dragon. Not RPGs per se, but fun none the less.

Deus Ex is a darkish/techno cyberpunk RPG and damn good fun too. Don't know how wonderful the PS2 port is though.
